ARCHIVED Need to understand geno test
kareng replied to Gmombutterfly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry. But there really isn't such a thing as a "gluten allergy". You might want to research allergy blood testing - from reputable sites, not companies that sell the tests or " natural" doctors that make thier living spreading this stuff. Sounds like you didn't go to an actual medical doctor? You can be allergic to the protein in wheat or...- 10 replies

ARCHIVED Need to understand geno test
kareng replied to Gmombutterfly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am not sure what "a geno Lab" is? Did you go to an actual MD? Maybe we just aren't seeing the complete thing? But an allergen test is not a Celiac test as Celiac is not an allergy.- 10 replies

ARCHIVED Other Noodle Alternatives
kareng replied to Ennis-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If anyone's hasn't had the spaghetti squash - it really tastes like noodles when sauced up! the egg ideas sounds soooo good to me right now! Never thought of that! I will add that if you can do rice - traditional pasta sauce and ground meat taste great on rice. Melt a littl cheese on top. I guess that's grain based......maybe cauliflower... -
ARCHIVED celiac and food allergies
kareng replied to BlueRidgeAngie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I do not like the grittiness of rice flour. Research a bit more - there are lots of alternative flours with recipes. I like a mix of sorghum, tapioca and arrowroot, maybe some millet. add flax to help with the lack of eggs along with chia seeds or egg replacer -
ARCHIVED celiac and food allergies
kareng replied to BlueRidgeAngie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Google gluten free vegan recipes. I don't know what sort of diagnoses you got for " food allergies". Most of them aren't very accurate. You may find that once you heal the Celiac damage, you can eat some of these foods again. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant vs Celiac
kareng replied to Mermaid's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think I explained. Celiac is actually a disease. Knowing she actually has or does not have a disease is a piece of the medical puzzle. I am not here to argue with you, just telling you my opinion. Obviously, with info I had from the first post - it sounded a bit "flippant". I hope being gluten-free helps her, whatever the reason. p.s... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant vs Celiac
kareng replied to Mermaid's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
But she has only been sort of gluten-free for 2 weeks? Why not run and get her tested today? Just the blood test. They are very accurate for Celiac disease, despite what that doctor said. If its positive - you might get more support from doctors. If its negative - you know something there, too. I do understand trying to find out what is wrong. Part... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant vs Celiac
kareng replied to Mermaid's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you should get an actual medical test to see if your child has Celiac before you diagnose her. Celiac is a real disease and should be treated as such. and what if you guess wrong? You decide she is just gluten intolerant so you don't worry about trace amounts of gluten, like fries in a shared fryer. I don't know her age, but untreated... -

kareng replied to Jherm21's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All of the Chex except Wheat are gluten-free. I think they have said they are made in separate places or parts and equipment. They seem to do a good job with Chex. I eat them with no issues. -

ARCHIVED A Post Diagnosis Rant, And Hello :d
kareng replied to charlieroseburns's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's good - the part about going to a doctor or two. It's a shame they didn't test for Celiac before advising you to take him off gluten. You wouldn't believe the number of people I see in my " real" life that take kids off gluten as a magical cure and never consult an actual MD for very real problems. -
ARCHIVED A Post Diagnosis Rant, And Hello :d
kareng replied to charlieroseburns's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did you take your child to a medical doctor before making him gluten-free? This sounds serious. Hopefully, you had him tested for Celiac before you took him off of gluten? At least then you will know if this is Celiac related nerve issues or to look for something else. -
ARCHIVED SIBO and gluten free diet
kareng replied to Shirley Riga's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just want to throw this out there - maybe you don't have gluten intolerance at all? I know that is a waste of 20 years gluten-free. But considering there are no reliable medical tests for gluten intolerance, maybe you have been treating the wrong thing all along? Maybe, once you get figured out what this issue is, you will be able to eat more foods. ... -

ARCHIVED DNA Results Interpretation
kareng replied to jaxmini2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do those numbers correspond to an actual gene? Having genes for Celiac don't mean much. About 30% of people have at least 1 but only about 1% develope Celiac disease. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED DNA Results Interpretation
kareng replied to jaxmini2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Doesn't look anything like my actual test for Celiac genes. You might want to read more about 23 and me. Not sure they look for the actual Celiac genes? Not sure how it is now, but I think I remember when they came out they couldn't actually tell you medical things? They were always a bit sketchy. -
ARCHIVED The new copper square pans
kareng replied to Brenda Colemam-Thomas's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't worry about stuff that should be easy to clean. I wouldn't share a colander - can't clean the holes well. I don't share cookie sheets at home, I have enough space for gluten eater to have his own for his frozen pizza. At my lake house, I have them use parchment or foil if they want to make those rolls in a tube. If feel a pot is too dirty, like...- 5 replies

ARCHIVED Paleo Cinnamon Cake Recipe
kareng replied to Ennis-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
That sounds yummy! Would it be bad if I put whipped cream or vanilla ice cream on it? Lol -
That was from 2008. I don't think any of those folks are still around. You might try googling gluten-free vegan baking/bread or baking with coconut flour.

What specifically are you worried about? I assume you would wash anything before you ate it? not put the straw or any stray seeds in your mouth? If it bothers you, there are lots of other ways to garden. My neighbor tried this last year and didn't have much luck.

ARCHIVED anxiety, celiac, problems, doctors, i'm lost
kareng replied to Jm34's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lots of people wear white medical coats. You can buy them at uniform supply stores. You can even take them to someone and have your name, Dr. Posterboy, embroidered on them. Lots of people wear them - lab techs that draw your blood, nursing supervisors, people, like me, who review records and go on rounds with doctors for research purposes... -
ARCHIVED Headaches When First Going Gluten Free?
kareng replied to weekendwarrior's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some headaches are Celiac related. But, if they are, they should go away on a gluten-free diet. They might return if you eat gluten. It is very possible to have migraines that have nothing to do with Celiac. I don't know her age, but, for me, I got some that were hormone related. They can be related to certain foods. You might want to read some...
