Workout Causing Leg Cramps...

Recommended Posts

I try to stick to a pretty regimented exercise plan of running/biking and strength training 6 days a week. I recently went on vacation and slacked off, only walked twice everyday, rather than running. When I returned and began my routine again, I got severe leg/feet cramps that night. They've continued off and on for a week, but lessening in severity. I've tried extra water, made sure I got all my vitamins in, ate bananas and other healthy foods. Any ideas on this, and how I can prevent this in the future? Wondering how I could have avoided this scenario. :(

I have to take a magnesium supplement - if I don't, I get HORRIBLE foot cramps - right in the arch.  Were you eating differently on vacation?  (i.e. maybe you typically eat magnesium rich foods at home, but didn't on vacation).  I workout like crazy all the time, but if I take some time off (vacation, illness, etc), it takes about two weeks for everything to start humming along the way it did before.  I find L-Glutamine is very helpful for both muscle recovery and digestive healing.  If I don't take it, my soreness lasts much longer.  Hope you feel better soon!!
