Can Celiac Effect Every Part Of Your Body

Recommended Posts

I ask this because whatever is wrong with me is certainly systematic.

From head to toe things have been going wrong.

Some examples :-

White foamy saliva

teeth yellowing, and gums receding

Back and shoulder pain.

cold hands.

Upper stomach pain

Strange BM's.

Urination off colour, foamy.

Easy Bruising.

Fatigue.

Tight calves, leg pain.

Dry Burning feet.

Facial/Body hair is not growing as fast as usual.

Thinning hair.

Sinus and ear problems.

Plus many more

Can anyone relate?

I am no expert.  I have spent a year learning all of this, but I have to say, get tested.  Now.  I gave up gluten before getting a full celiac test so now I cannot get a good celiac test.  Get it done before you stop eating gluten.  Just to make sure you know what it is or isn't.  But you sound like you are.  Problems all your life and you thought it was the norm but now as an adult you realize its not, and its worse and everything happening at once is too much?  Been there, in fact going through some right now.  Get tested.

Thanks for the reply I have been blood tested for Celiac which was negative, however my GI says the bloodtest is not always accurate and want to do a biopsy via endoscopy.

Lots of my symptoms have happened intermittently through my life, but suddenly bang everything starts to go wrong.

I have always had weird low blood sugar symptoms too.

from a healing point of view, yes, i have had a myriad of problems clear up since going gluten free - migraines, body aches, joint pain, skin, hair and nail problems, etc. - even problems i didn't know could be related to celiac like vertigo.  also, not so nervous all the time.

I have decided even if my biopsy is Negative, I will try a Gluten free diet.  I am currently eating plenty of Gluten, so that it may show in my biopsy.

Does the GERD effect your saliva?  Mine is always white and thick (Foamy, Frothy).  Also how was the GERD diagnosed?

I have an ungodly list of problems as well not sure if its all celiac related or not, due to the fact that I have refractory celiac and do not get any relief from a gluten free diet. Currently on prednisone and 6mp (chemo) still no relief! :-/ can be very frustrating don't give up, you're not alone!! :-)

Hi Dek,

Yes, celiac and mal-absorption can affect the whole body. Other things can also of  course.

Have you had your blood sugar tested?  You can get an AIC test done to see how it has averaged over the past 3 months.  Might be a good one to get done, it's just a simple blood test.  At first I was going to suggest werewolf, (due to the foamy saliva), but you have other symptoms that point to something else.  You can get a diabetes test kit for not much money, and an AIC test at a pharmacy and do them yourself.

You may also want to get your thyroid function tested.  It is not a bad idea to rule out other things, and not just assume celiac disease or NCGI.  It  is also very possible to have multiple health issues, not just one.  Or a variety of common thing s should be tested for.  Diabetes and thyroid conditions are both related to celiac disease.

I have been tested four times for Diabetes, and twice for Thyroid problems - everything was ok.  My symptoms have been so wide and varied that I think it could be possibly more than one thing.

My GI is getting my normal doc to run some more bloods and a stool sample, not sure what will show up, nothing as yet.

I had a CT of my Abdomen and pelvis which found a possible mass in my Colon, so I had a Colonoscopy which was clear (It must of been fecal matter that showed up on the CT).

Obviously cancer as been a worry, but my symptoms seem too varied for that (I Hope).

were you able to get the full blood panel including DGPs?

DGP iga/igg

ttg iga/igg

total iga serum

EMA

the only one I was positive on was the DGP igG, and everything else was negative.  if I would've only be screened with the ttg iga, nothing would have shown up

I can relate to quite a few of those things.  I was sure I was going to be anemic because of easy bruising, but instead I was deficient in Vitamin K, and my iron was in the normal range.

http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/vitamin-k-000343.htm

I was also low in potassium, so upping that has helped my leg cramping.  I drink Vita Coco water since my GI recommended that coconut water is a good, low-calorie source of potassium.

I bolded the ones I've had problems with

White foamy saliva (noticed a decrease in my saliva going gluten-free)

Back and shoulder pain.

cold hands.  (i don't know how many times I've been told my hands are cold)

Upper stomach pain

Strange BM's.

Urination off colour, foamy.

Easy Bruising. (get checked for Vitamin K deficiency)

Fatigue.

Tight calves, leg pain.

Dry Burning feet.

I believe it only effects the tissues that need nutrients and oxygen, :D    I recall my comment to my chiropractor just over a year ago.  "Every tissue in my body feels irritated."

Just think of it this way, if you villi are damaged you can't absorb nutrients.  If you are not getting enough nutrients, your cells don't eat very well.  This is malnutrition.  When you don't have enough to eat, anything and everything can go wrong.

I really don't think any symptom could be marked off the list for celiac because when your body isn't absorbing the vitamins and minerals it needs it can cause all sorts if problem with all sorts of symptoms.

Some of your symptoms could be related to your kidney function to so might want to check on that.if it hasnt been checked. Especially the foamy urine but some of the others are well! Might be unrelated but worth checking!

I am not sure what Celiac panel they did on me.  It just said celiac on my blood test sheet.  The doctors dont tell you anything.  It is so frustating.

I have had several Kidney function tests and the all came back normal.  I keep telling my doc about my Foamy urine, and they do urine tests which are always clear.

I really dont know what is causing it, but it is not normal.  I know I am not dehydrated because I drink lots of water.
