Help understanding results please :). Anyone else tested by life labs?

I got some tests back after my sister was diagnosed celiac (she was most recent but quite a few of my family members are celiac). I'm going to do biopsy but haven't had that done yet. Could you please explain what these tests are for, what my results mean, and what the normal range is for each? I want to know how close any of my results are to borderline and how likely it is I have celiac or not.

gliadin Ab Iga - 98 units

tissue transglutaminaise > 100 units

gliadin abg (the doctor wrote this quickly for me and I don't see this acronym on other posts, could this be short for gliadin ab igg?) - 42 units.

EDIT: If anyone else has used life labs and know the reference range for any of these tests I would appreciate the information!

I personally would not want to comment without seeing the ranges.  Plus, you need to understand that we are not doctors, just folks with celiac disease or NCGI.  NVSMOM is great about explaining the tests in detail.  Look up some of her posts made this week on this very subject.  There is a query box you that you can type her member name in.  Or you can google each test.

but....I bet you have it.  Those numbers appear to be high based on lab results I have been seeing lately and the fact that here are already others who have celiac disease in your family.  ?

Thank you for replying :)

Unfortunately I did not know to ask for ranges when my doctor wrote down my results - all the information I have is in the first post.

I understand that strangers on the Internet are no replacement for a real life doctor. Unfortunately my doctor doesn't seem to have any experience with celiac outside of me and my sister and doesn't really have any interest in it so I feel I'm kind of stuck. I'm from a small place so I don't have a lot of resources and options outside the Internet.

I have tried phoning the labs that tested me and asking about reference ranges but they only said I should be asking my doctor.

I think I have some idea of what the tests are for (except the abg test) but it's really not doing me any good when I have no idea where my results fall.

Well, the tests were for celiac disease.  I do not know where you live, but in the USA you are the customer.  By law, doctors are required to give you written copies if you ask.  It is your RIGHT!  You might need to go to your doctor's office in person to get your records.  My hubby just did that at his old doctor's office so that he could give his files to our new doctor.  Our new doctor said they could put in the request but it would take longer.  Took hubby 10 minutes.  Worth it?  Yes, it is his health we are talking about!

We maintain copies of all our medical histories.   We can go back 29 years and can tell you results of blood tests, etc.  This includes hospital records.  Why?  Because you are your best health advocate (except maybe your mom).  Take charge of your health and get those records.  Keep up the research because really, doctors have 2,000 patients (quote from mine).  Can she really catch everything?  No!

Always be polite and nice though!

Are you in Canada?  Are these links to the lab in question?

Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and groin with celiac are not uncommon. They can take time to reduce even after going gluten-free. Monitoring is key.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
