HLA result questions

Recommended Posts

I have tried to research what this all means, but none of it is making sense to me. Too many numbers. ;).  I understand that the DQ2 is positive and DQ8 is negative, but I'm confused about the others. Here are my results:

HLA DQ2: positive

HLA DQ8: negative

HLA variants detected:

HLA DQA1*           01

HLA DQA1*           05

HLA DQB1*           201

HLA DQB1*           609

How do I know if I have one or two copies of the gene?

Btw, I have positive blood panel results, so I'm just trying to understand for my own sake what this all means. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it! Thank you!!

I had a similar question, I have the HLA DQ8 but not the HLA DQ2.  I asked but nobody was able to answer.  I emailed my GI doctor and asked for an explanation and she told me a very basic layman's explanation that i have one of the celiac genes.

You only have to have one of the genes as I understand it.

Sanders, I don't know how to read your variants part of the report but you certainly do have the DQ2 and that's all it takes.
