Newly Diagnosed

Breaux Newbie

Hello,

I never thought I would be on a celiacs forum, but here I am and I 'm glad that there is a community to help folks on their journey to feeling better and gaining a better understanding of what celiacs is.

My diagnosis took 3 1/2 years, which from reading other peoples experiences isn't uncommon. I know that during this span, I have been gradually feeling worse and having a really difficult time figuring out, why? My symptoms seem a little atypical; started out with upper right abdominal fullness that came and went for 2 years, which progressed to upper left and right fullness/pain that is fairly persistent. I haven't had what I would consider a normal bathroom visit during this time- probably to much information, but again from what I have read it comes with the territory. I'll list some other symptoms just in the chance someone reads this and find themselves in the same boat: hair thinning, floating stools, dark circles under eyes, occasional rash and itching, headaches, yellow'ish tongue(mostly in the morning), low energy, and brain fog.

I started my diet today. I'll give some updates and hopefully someone out there reads this one day and it helps.

Cheer,

Breaux

Hi Breaux!  Welcome to the forum! :)

I hope you enjoy your time here and can learn some helpful things.  There is a sticky thread in the Coping With Celiac forum section called Newbie 101 that has some tips for you.i

Other than that we generally suggest people stick to whole foods for at least a few months and avoid dairy.  Eating out in restaurants is a bad idea for a beginner also.  There's a few other things to learn about celiac disease so feel free to ask questions.  Someone may have a good answer! :)

Thankyou for that information yes I totally relate to that it's a very good read and I've felt like that too to the point were going out for dinner was aniexty before I even left home and it's funny her name is jean because that was my grandma's name and I also  believe she  coeliac undiagnosed because I look back now and she couldn't tolerate most things like me unfortunately she got bowel cancer it's such a shame it's so unrecognised by the medical profession and by people too who do t suffer it because it can be very hard living with it so thankyou so much for this

Ichthus is the Greek word (using English letters) for fish. The letters in the actual Greek word form an acronym that come from the first letters in the Greek words for "Jesus", "God's Son," "Savior".   Now, back to your family's denial of your celiac disease, I think you can relate to this:

Thanks for the kind words. It's hard to convince my doctor to investigate further because of a negative blood test and he only tested me for one marker. 🙃 I've come to the point where I need to take this into my own hands because the doctors are infuriating and it's not going anywhere. I've been gluten free for a week and feeling better but I was still consuming dairy and I think that's what's backing me up. Next week no dairy introduced.
