Hello, I came across this site when I was searching about very dark stool causes. My stomach has been upset for over a month now. I have an uncle that has a gluten intolerance and I told him my symptoms and he seems to think I have one as well. I have been completely gluten free for about 2 days now. My stool has recently turned from yellowish brown, to very dark brown very quickly. Could this be a sign that the gluten free diet is working? Or should I be worried? I have also been suffering from diarrhea for a while, I’m guessing because of a gluten intolerance? Thank you in advance.

The only way to know if you have celiac disease is to get tested.  Going by symptoms alone is impossible because these symptoms overlap with other illnesses.  Testing starts with a simple blood test.  The catch?  You have to be eating gluten everyday for six to eight weeks or the tests will not work.

So, you might want to call your doctor and get the test before you go gluten free.  Without a diagnosis, it can be hard to maintain the diet and get the support from family, friends and medical.

Only you can decide what is best for you.  Keep researching.
