As someone who was told it was all in my head--I was just "sensitive"--for over 20 years, I would like to add my sincere thanks! My experience, like so many of us, was very similar to yours, Scott. I was reading through the thread in question this morning, and was so happy to see that you stepped in. :)

Hey Bev, thanks B)

yes, thank you Scott for jumping in... I got so sick of people for years, including my family, telling me that I either had a mental illness or that it was all in my head. Dr.s included... We don't need instigators coming in to stir up trouble and try to discredit valid Celiac info.

I was reading that this morning too Scott.

Thank you for stepping in.

Seems like we've had our share of disurbers lately. It's not bad to get people to think but telling people it's in their head, celiac can be cured so you can eat gluten, etc.....

Patti,

Didn't I read recently that you were thanked for getting people to think outside the box? We all need to process a lot of different information and see if it may fit. It would be different if a gluten free diet was unhealthy. Any diet CAN BE unhealthy, we still have the responsibility of varying our foods to maximize nutrition.

Yes, but that was completely different--the person was sick with an infection, and thought it was just her Celiac and was trying to figure out what she ate that was doing it. I suggested that it was something else entirely--and it turned out to be a serious infection--unrelated to the Celiac. That's what was meant by 'thinking outside of the box'.

I'm confused--did I say something I shouldn't have? Because it wouldn't be the first time

No you didn't. I referred to the diet since some people (not celiac/gluten intolerant) seem to think that the gluten-free diet isn't healthy.

Oh, ok :) Just my feeble mind not processing again! :D

Double post as put in the wrong thread first** sorry!

Thanks Scott..again, for stepping in.

I also chose to stay with my Internist of 20 who never thought to test for celiac as I was obese and struggling with my weight and constant 'd' for those years..and every year the 'd' got worse and IBS dx came and then after 5 weeks of not being able to eat, constant water 'd' that kept me house bound he tested for celiac. 16 months on gluten-free diet and help on the board for other food intollerances that have cropped up..I have my life back...and my mental health too, not because I was 'crazy' but mentally confussed by my illness from un dx celiac disease. He tells me I know more about celiac disease than he does and I'm helping him and his PA by sending them info too.

Thanks again.

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
