AAAARGHH i'm sooooo bad at the college right now. I have finals all this week, so I came in earlier to study and just eat lunch here...

I get to the staff room, open up the freezer in the fridge ..... theres a HUGE BAG OF BUNS on top of my bread bag (which ended up not being completely sealed--for some reason the tag wasnt closing it all). So I had to move the bag myself, and discovered was was HOLES in the bag of EVIL BUNS. So I went and washed my hands as good as I could but I not sure if enough

And THEN I get to the lunch room, and the whole area around the microwaves is EVIL CRUMBS...

that was like 2 1/2 hours ago, and NOW I just feel like absolutely CRAP. PAIN PAIN PAIN and MORE pain. Went to the bathroom, and felt even more pain now.

I totally think i'm contaminated *cries*. And I write my final in 10 mins, the last thing I need is the short-term memory loss and poor concentration...

I wanna scream and cry right now :(

Lisa - I'm sorry you're having such an awful day. I'm praying that your final goes well. Lord knows you've worked so hard to stay in college during all of this.

No doubt about it, Lisa--you're having a lousy day  These things happen, and all you can do is wait for the reaction to ease up, and go from there.

I know it just dosen't seem fair sometimes :( I'm sure by the time you read this, your final will be over--you can only do the best you can. Get some rest tonight, keep warm and I hope tomorrow is a better day for you :)

I'm so sorry. {{{HUGS}}} You're still going to do the best you can on that final inspite of everything that's happened.

Is there a way you can get your own mini-fridge in the staff room? I'm way too scared to put my food in a communal fridge. I like it on my desk where it's nice and safe and I can supervise it.

thanks guys *hugs you all*. makes me feel better to see your replies when i got home. I'm so out of it :( I should have been studying tonight for my final tomorrow but too much of a headache(which feels more like a migraine right now), too much brainfog, too much pain, too much itchyness!!

Everyone seems to have the idea that its my own fault i got contaminated :o (i dont see how--i'm not the one who buried my bread under a bag of evil buns!)

And just my luck, my principal will be away probably this whole week, so I dont know why I can talk to about it. I know its their staffroom and their fridge and their freezer, but I dont have a choice. You all know what its like---its either freeze it til you need it, or starve!

I'm going to bed earlier than my normal bedtime, i have a feeling i'll need it. I'll keep you updated...

P.S.: I did good on the final, but i know not as good as I could have done--forgot a LOT of the easy stuff! :/

You might try double-bagging your bread bag, or using a well-labeled, well-sealed plastic container.

Lisa,

I was going to suggest the same thing. Get a container large enough for what you would normally keep in their fridge, so all of your foods can stay together and separate. :) These are very inexpensive at discount department stores--and could save you a lot of problems.

As we all know, there's not much we can do about those around us, it's up to us to keep ourselves safe. :);)

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
