Anyone Immune To Poisin Oak/ivy?

Recommended Posts

It's funny that this topic popped up as I've just gotten my first reaction to poison ivy/oak/sumac....At first I thought it might be DH but a nurse friend of my swears it's P/I...Its not healing very fast at all and I'm wondering if the glutening has anything to do with it? *ugh* That's my life

Did the rash show up right after you got glutened? PI and DH do look similiar sometimes. PI will often, but not always, be in a line from where the edge of a leaf brushed against you. PI usually runs it course in about 10 days, DH can take a bit longer to clear up especially if you get reglutened or use iodized salt.

Actually I have no idea how I could have gotten PI since I've always avoid the stuff like the plague since my family has a history of being VERY allergic. And it appears to be random...I've had it for almost two weeks and it appeared first on one leg then the other and has worked it's way up the second leg but kinda stopped on the first....

I had just been glutened the day before this showed up...

This really IMHO sounds like DH. If you use iodized salt get some uniodized to use for a while. I hope this clears up soon as the itching can be miserable. I found cool compresses to help but stuff like calamine lotion made it worse.

If it shows up again after you get another accidental glutening you will basically have your answer.

Thank you! I've been going crazy wondering why if I had PI it hadn't gone away because it's been over a week. The itching is insane!!! And I can't wear shorts because of it and it's only a 100degrees. I use sea salt because I like the flavor more....so I should be ok :) thank you again!!

When I get into poisen ivy it last quite awhile. The worst case I had it didn't completely clear up for 3 weeks! :o I had no doubt it was PI. If you are pretty certain you didn't come in contact with it look into the DH possiblility like raven said.

Oh my gosh!!

I've always thought it was bizarre that poison ivy or oak didn't effect my super-sensitive skin that goes haywire if I even use too much shampoo. I figured maybe I'd just misidentified the fiend, or hadn't been exposed as much as I'd thought. But I'm not crazy! Hardly makes up for the other stuff that comes along with celiac, but it's still pretty cool!
