Emily Harrison Marathoner On Tv 1/14

Just read today about Emily Harrison, a former University of Virginia running star who was sixth in the nation in cross country in 2007-08. In 2009 and 2010 she was often unable to train because of sciatic nerve and shin problems and tissue inflammation, troubles that were eventually traced back to a "gluten intolerance," according to the article. She also avoids dairy.

Today, she will run in the Olympic marathon trials in Houston, which (where I live) will be on NBC at 3 p.m. Realistically, she probably won't make the Olympics, but she has the 13th best time out of 200 women after running just two marathons.

Go Emily!!

It's funny, but a while back, I posted about her story, too as I found her story interesting. I think we saw it in hub's Sports Illustrated maybe? Can't recall exactly. Reading about her and having some of my own sciatic nerve and connective tissue pain issues caught my attention and gave me hope for resolving them.

Good for her that she figured out the source of her problems!

yes.....Go EMILY!! :)

Emily ended up 30th and not her best time, but, hey, she's just 25!

She's got plenty of time to do it then. Thanks for the update! :)

    • So I am in my late fifties and was diagnosed with Celiac disease about 8 months ago.  I travel a lot for work and the other day stopped in at McDonalds to have a Greek Salad, found out after it has couscous which contains wheat.  I find that after digesting gluten I get sick about an hour later and feel terrible for hours.  Does everyone experience this? I have been to 3 weddings and asked for Gluten free and have been sick twice, no more eating at weddings. ...
    • Alter eco is supposed to be gluten free as well, but there is another thread saying they are not. I'm never sure if people are actually reacting to gluten or if they cross react and then assume it's gluten. I had an alter eco truffle the other day and was fine, but again it's hard to track down what's factual information any more.
