Getting Re-Tested

Thank Goodness I found this site! I had previously posted a comment that I tested negative back in November from blood work but went gluten-free anyway and started getting better. I wasn't sure what blood test my doctor had run, but armed with the information I had learned from here went to the GI doctor on Monday. He reviewed my records and said the blood work that was run was the old type of testing. They did not do the tests you recommend on here and he ordered them and also the genetic test and the endoscopy, as I am still symptomatic if I accidentally ingest gluten. He was very informative and said as far as he is concerned 75% of diagnosing Celiac is by symptoms, ruling out gluten and endoscopy. Blood testing is just not accurate enough.

Welcome, Marini! We're glad to have you here, too! It sounds like you found a good doctor!

I did have the older celiac panel and it was off-the-chart positive. In contrast my adult daughter had the newer DGP panel and it was also positive (almost the same readings as mine). Neither of us know what genes we have as we were never tested.

I hope you continue to improve! You are on your way!!!

Edit: Make sure you stay on gluten until you have the endoscopy. As soon as it's done, you can go gluten-free.

If you have been gluten-free since November, the blood and endoscopy will likely be negative.
