Arrowhead Mills Flours

Well, at long last I've found a culprit - Arrowhead Mills flours. After several trials and periods of avoidance, I can say with certainty that their buckwheat flour gives me gluten symptoms. I think it must have been near the threshold in the past, because previous bags occasionally had me suspicious, but the last bag has gotten me enough times where I know it can't be anything else. I have a little Arrowhead Mills millet flour left, but I've been suspecting that too, so I'm just gonna toss it.

Glad you found the culprit, but I'm sad, as I just bought a bag of buckwheat flour after not being able to find it for the longest time. :(

Know of any other sources to purchase buckwheat flour that isn't contaminated?

Hope you get to feeling better!

Yep! Open Original Shared Link has a wide selection of flours, many processed in a gluten-free facility. Many are certified organic too. However, their gluten-free buckwheat flour is very light in color - sorta like white rice flour. It used to look perfectly normal for buckwheat flour, so I think they may have switched suppliers, or the method of milling has changed. But the smell is definitely buckwheat, so I'm sure it's not mislabeled. I've been buying most of my flours there, with the exception of the Arrowhead Mills ones, and never had any CC that I'm aware of. They have really good prices on xanthan and guar gum too.

I'm glad that you found the culprit. I found trace amounts of gluten in their corn meal. Much less than 20 ppm for non sensitive celiacs.

A buckwheat only place is www.thebirkettmills.com. Lots of stores carry their products. Their pancake mix is good. Check it out.

Just to confirm what the other posters have said: I recently started using Arrowhead Mills millet flour in my gluten free baking. Around the same time I started to have suspicious symptoms which made me think that I'd been glutened. I didn't put two and two together until this past week when I realized that I had been eating more of my "gluten free" bread than usual and I also felt MUCH worse (vertigo, headaches, D, etc.).

When I saw Rice Guy's post I knew immediately that it was the millet flour from Arrowhead Mills. It's really the only new food in my diet.

Thanks for the warning, Rice Guy!!

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
