I have problems with nitrates and nitrites. Celiac people seem to produce more nitrites as part of the inflammation process anyway, so adding dietary nitrates and nitrites add to the load our bodies must cope with. I usually get severe migraines after nitrite and nitrate exposure. Vitamin C is helpful. Sodium ascorbate in the list of ingredients...

Symptoms, possible celiac
knitty kitty replied to DK1984's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unfortunately, doctors are not given much training in vitamins. Doctors are usually trained in pharmaceutical company funded medical learning institutions. Doctors are trained to prescribe pharmaceuticals. Blood tests for vitamin deficiencies are not accurate because vitamins are used inside cells. There can be vitamin deficiency symptoms before deficiency... -
Symptoms, possible celiac
knitty kitty replied to DK1984's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello, From the description of your stools, you may be having fat malabsorption which is common in Celiac Disease. In early Thiamine insufficiency, the body starts conserving thiamine by burning our own muscles for energy. Your weight or body mass index may have changed. Is your added middle fat or edema (water retention)? The gauntness... -
Body buzzing after being glutened
knitty kitty replied to AutumnSky's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@AutumnSky, Yes, I get that vibration, too! What a sad experience! I'm so sorry you had to endure such ignorance. Things I try to quiet the vibration: Have a warm cup of Oolong tea. It has L-Theanine, a natural amino acid, that really helps with relaxation. Theanine supplements are available. Take 1000mg of Tryptophan (a form... -
I had some bumps along the way, and severe nutritional deficiencies that needed attention and time to correct. It wasn't a straight progression. Some days it felt like "two steps forward and one step back", but I kept at it. Everyone is different. The longer I was on the AIP diet, the more my body "relaxed". The inflammation left, the anxiety left...

I believe I have this! Serology tests all negative
knitty kitty replied to Hb333's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Niacin, Vitamin B 3, the kind that causes flushing, helps immensely with DH. Some acne is associated with DH and improves with Niacin. Reducing intake of iodine helps DH. Iodine is in Dairy, Seafood, especially crustaceans, nori, kelp, and iodized salt. @Hb333, BV is associated with Thiamine deficiency. Production of antibodies can be affected... -
Histamine Intolerance goes with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. In Celiac Disease, mast cells multiply dramatically. Mast cells release histamine (degranulation). Mast cells that don't have enough thiamine B1 degranulate easily and frequently. Vitamin B12 and Vitamin C are needed to break down histamine. I found choosing low histamine foods...

A person can have "normal" blood levels of Thiamine, but have a functional deficiency because the Thiamine is not getting into the cells. The transporters that bring thiamine into the cells have been blocked and turned off by those medications. The best way to clear the transporters is High Dose Thiamine. High Dose Thiamine provides a means...

Oh, yes, I can't walk down the bread aisle. My eyes sting, my nose starts running, I get queasy. The nose and eyes drain into the digestive system. Digestion starts in the mouth. The reason you smell something is because molecules of it is floating in the air and landing on your smell receptors in your nose. As you wish.... NOTE...

Gastrointestinal beriberi = abdominal discomfort. Yes. Low stomach acid is due to thiamine deficiency. Yes. Try some Riboflavin B2 for the migraines. Numb feet = Thiamine, niacin ( B3), Pyridoxine (B6) and B12 helps here. B12 need Folate B9 to work properly. Benfotiamine is absorbed fine. I take mine at beginning of meals and magnesium...

@John117, Do you have a problem with soy? Some do. It's in your vitamin supplement. Seems fine. Still, you might try high dose Thiamine (Benfotiamine 100 mg with each meal) and see if it helps. Thiamine is nontoxic and water soluble, so no harm to try. Yes, Thiamine insufficiency can wax and wane for years. Symptoms fluctuate with dietary...

Hi! @T burd, I found this article that says antihistone antibodies are found in Celiac Disease. Are there different or specific ones for Celiac and Lupus? High Frequency of Extractable Nuclear Autoantibodies in Wheat-Related Disorders https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29977112/ HCQ, hydroxychloroquine, causes thiamine deficiency...

What is in your 3x day multivitamin? I'm curious about the ingredients and the forms of the vitamins in there and the amounts. Can you post a picture of the label or a link? Which antidepressants are you taking? Any other meds? Supplements? Can you ask your doctor about Gastrointestinal Beriberi? Thiamine deficiency can cause gastrointestinal...

Which meds are you on that cause no appetite? Some medications can interfere with vitamin absorption. Check out Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. In Celiac disease mast cells multiply and become hypersensitive and degranulate easily. Thiamine supplementation can help with mast cell regulation. Celiac people can become vitamin deficient easily...

@Cramper, I do wish you would give another thought to thiamine deficiency as Gastrointestinal Beriberi, and as a means to help your liver. see... Impact of thiamine supplementation in the reversal of ethanol induced toxicity in rats https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24968580/ And... The effects of thiamine and thiamine pyrophosphate...

Welcome to the forum, @Meg80! Would you give us an idea of what type of foods you eat? Do you eat processed gluten free facsimile foods? Whole foods? What type of exercise do you do? How often? Intensity? When was the last time you got glutened? What do you think was cross contaminated that made you sick?

The itchy rash may be Dermatitis Herpetiformis. If you have DH, you have Celiac Disease. A dermatologist can take a biopsy NEXT TO an ACTIVE spot. A dermatologist experienced with DH would be great. DH has been helped by Niacin Vitamin B 3. I have DH, but it's not active. A genetic test looks at your DNA for Celiac genes. Celiac Disease is hereditary...

@Gamma, I've taken gabapentin prior to vitamin supplementation and it didn't give me much relief. I was given gabapentin after a painful injury while supplementing with B Complex vitamins and Thiamine, and gabapentin worked much better. There's evidence supplementing with vitamins while taking gabapentin is better at nerve pain relief....

knitty kitty replied to Lakegirl's topic in Super Sensitive People
Some Celiacs react to rice and corn as though it were gluten. The Autoimmune Paleo Protocol diet is scientifically proven to help with healing. This diet cuts out all grains, dairy, legumes and nightshades for several weeks. When feeling better, check for reactions after adding one item back to diet. Keeping a food/mood/poo'd journal can help... -
Yes, I'm very familiar with physicians' attitudes when they are baffled. You may do better getting a referral to a nutritionist or dietician who is familiar with Celiac Disease. That's like a needle in a haystack, though. Or educate yourself here at the forum. Experience is the best teacher. Keep us posted on your progress!

@Gamma, Doctors are trained in medical learning institutions that are funded by pharmaceutical companies. Doctors are trained to prescribe pharmaceuticals. One doctor told me he could not make money prescribing vitamins so refused to test for vitamin and mineral deficiencies even though my Vitamin D level was in the single digits. And he only...
