Gluten Ataxia / Hypotonia (Low Muscle Tone)
knitty kitty replied to Brent22's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Recent research has found that Ttg6 antibodies are present in ataxia. Ttg6 antibodies are produced when gluten is present. Ttg2 is tested for Celiac Disease. Some people make both Ttg2 and Ttg6. Just checking. You do know that Celiac is not an allergy, right? You can have Celiac and a wheat/grass allergy both, but they are two different reactions. -

@Brent22, You said in a previous post... "...although the immunologist was able to help get my digestion under control, interesting that the gastro couldn't..." Could you explain more about this? What did the gastro do? What did the immunologist do? You said you tested negative on Celiac tests. Which tests were run. Thiamine deficiency... -
Gluten free in a hurricaine shelter?
knitty kitty replied to Oldturdle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's simply that the levels of antibodies against gluten have dropped because you were on a gluten free diet. Some of the cells that produce the antibodies have died off. Continued exposure to gluten will cause more antibody producing cells to mature and start producing massive amounts of antibodies again. It does take the body a little while to launch... -
Gluten Ataxia / Hypotonia (Low Muscle Tone)

B12 can be stored in the liver for a couple of years. B12 deficiency symptoms can occur before there's a change in blood levels. If B12 is ok, that doesn't mean that you are not low in the other B vitamins. There are eight B vitamins. They all work together. In Thiamine deficiency, the Thiamine transporters are switched off. To get Thiamine... -

It is Celiac related. It vitamin and mineral deficiencies from malabsorption due to Celiac. Deficiencies in Thiamine and magnesium and B12 can cause urgency and frequency problems with the bladder. Constipation (or diarrhea) can be a symptom of Thiamine deficiency. -

Thiamine deficiency can cause hypotonia! Purkinje cells in the cerebellum are affected by thiamine deficiency. Thiamine Deficiency Increases Intrinsic Excitability of Mouse Cerebellar Purkinje Cells https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33098550/ "We conclude that thiamine deficiency causes significant but reversible changes to the electrophysiology... -
Cautions for Coffee and Caffeine Drinkers
knitty kitty commented on Lauren Lindsey's article in Additional Concerns
Tachycardia is a symptom of Thiamine deficiency. Caffeine and other chemicals like tannins in tea will destroy Thiamine and make it unavailable for the body to use and precipitate thiamine deficiency symptoms. -
@Cramper, Welcome to the forum! Your symptoms sound like what I experienced. I had Gastrointestinal Beriberi. Celiac Disease damages the small intestine so vitamin absorption is affected. Alcohol damages the small intestine, too, and vitamin absorption is affected. Even though you quit drinking a couple of years ago, the subclinical Thiamine...

Yes, I believe that Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of nutrients which results in alterations in brain function. I know because I've been there. Yes, it does get frustrating when doctors don't know what is really going on. Having another autoimmune disease, like Hashimoto's or Diabetes, can affect your anti-Ttg antibody production. Having vitamin deficiencies can affect your antibody production, too. Read these articles and discuss high dose Thiamine with your doctor. Hiding in Plain...

Facial pain
knitty kitty replied to CeliacMom502's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum, @CeliacMom502 and @Celiacdaughter! I have experienced severe migraines with the same symptoms you've described as a child through adulthood until I started High Dose Thiamine. Medications for migraines never helped. Blood tests don't accurately reflect thiamine levels. Blood levels reflect how much thiamine has been consumed... -
I take Life Extension Niacin, 500 mg. Make sure the Niacin you get is gluten free and is the kind that causes flushing.

I have had skin problems due to gluten and also due to Niacin deficiency. (Nicotinic acid is the form of Vitamin B3 that causes flushing.) Supplementing with Nicotinic Acid helps immensely to clear my skin. Vitamins A, D and C also help. Remember cutting out gluten cuts out the vitamins added to gluten containing products. Discuss with your doctor...

Do keep in mind that when you cut out Gluten, you are also cutting out the vitamins that are required by law to be added in order to replace those lost in processing. Supplementing with a B Complex and extra Thiamine (Benfotiamine, Allithiamine, Thiamine HCl) will help provide your body with the vitamins it is no longer getting. Nausea, dizziness...
-
@Lea89, Do check with your doctor about supplementing vitamins and minerals. Do get testing for deficiencies done BEFORE starting supplementing or the tests will reflect how much you've taken. Vitamins are used inside the cells, so blood tests aren't always accurate. Do take a B Complex supplement and magnesium glycinate chelate along...
-
@Lea89, welcome to the forum! Have you been checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies? Celiac Disease causes malabsorption and malnutrition because the villi in the small intestine are damaged and cannot absorb the nutrients our bodies need for repair and health. You listed symptoms that are very similar to symptoms that I had that turned out...

Question
knitty kitty replied to JoeJoe86's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
@JoeJoe86, We have had posters that have a "meat allergy" after being infected with Lyme Disease which is treatable with antibiotics. However, an allergy to eggs is a thing by itself. Some Celiacs can develop a sensitivity to eggs, but this may remedy itself after fully healing. Keeping a food diary is very helpful. I've found the... -
