Pregnant Celiac

I rarely post on this forum, but given my change in circumstances, I'm hoping I might gain some good information.

I have had celiac disease for almost 3 years and a year ago was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

I've just had a positive pregnancy result and am only a few weeks pregnant.

If anyone has or is going through the same condition and had a successful pregnancy I would love any advice you might have.    In particular I'm concerned about supplements and getting the correct nutrients from my diet.

Look forward to any replies!

Congratulations! How exciting!

I was not diagnosed with celiac disease when I was pregnant (I am sure I had it though) but I did have Hashimotos thyroiditis then. I made sure that I was tested several times during my pregnancy because thyroid replacement needs can change. There can be a higher rate of miscarriage too but that risk is small but real! Keeping your meds in line is your best approach, so pay attention to possible thyroid symptoms.

Eat healthy. Baby will take what she needs at your expense. I just took a standard multi. I also kept up on excercising (lots of walking and gentle swimming and no biking ) and that helped me through labor.

Have fun and enjoy every second of it!

I am about 6 weeks right now too. I am still having problems with my vitamin levels too!  I am SO WORRIED I will miscarry. Ive been gluten-free and Grain free for almost 2 years now. I am going to talk to my doctor at my first visit in a couple of weeks about taking some vitamins from a company called Bariatric Avantage.  They have a whole  prenatal vitamin package as well as one called ADEK which are the ones that I have problems with but the way the make them ..it apparently makes said vitamins EXTREMELY easy to absorb.  I have seen (even just tonight for dinner) That I am crazy craving things with high Vitamin A.. it's really weird!  I am due 12/12, you?

Thanks for your reply! I live in Dubai … presuming your from the USA?  A lot of the Vit's you guys have, aren't readily available here so Im not supplementing much at all apart form Folic A.  i'm 7 weeks prg. gluten-free for 2.5 yrs,  grain free for 1.5 years. Thyroid is under control but i control through drugs.  Like you, its always a worrying time till around 14 weeks where the chances of miscarrying drops significantly.  Positive thoughts help massively and i know thats not helpful when your worried, but it all has a knock on effect!  I'm due 5th December!

YAY!!!  I am trying to be positive too.  Hmm.. I wonder if you would be able to order those vitamins online (Yes I am in the USA...and I ordered them online too).  The part I wonder is if they would SHIP to SA.  I know they have an online live chat help thing you can ask them on it?  I was just looking at December birth announcement ideas. :D  TOO CUTE! I do not have any thyroid problems going on, but I am quite qorried I will somehow get gestational diabetes. Even though I really do not eat in such a way that it would be a problem... yep. ok.. too much worry!

Saudi Arabia has maternity AND paternity leave from work.  The USA has none... at all....  Lucky you!

@Aretaeus Cappadocia thank you for your reply and the link, that is very helpful to get a visual of just how small of an amount can cause a reaction. I know I am not consuming gluten or coming into contact with gluten from any other source. I will stop touching/tossing bread outside! My diet has not changed, and I do not have reactions to the things I am currently eating, which are few in number. My auto immune reaction just seems so severe. The abdominal pain is extreme. It takes a lot out of me. I guess I will be this way for the rest of my life if I ever happen to come into contact with gluten? I appreciate the help.

Thankyou I did find out the Infectious disease is the route to go rather than dermatologist. I did reach out to two major hospitals and currently waiting on approval for one of them in Infectious Diseases to call me. I also did have implants ( I didn't know and sense not properly in my medical. Neither did surgeon)in 2006 and there was a leak 2023 during the same time I was dealing with covid, digestive issues, eyes and skin.Considering I " should  be fine" not consuming gluten/wheat, taking vitamins for sibo and STILL feeling terrible. It has to be parasites. I also take individual eye drops prescribed, could there be an issue there? Anyways my pcp thinks I need therapy because again they don't acknowledge my digestive issues because in my records it shows im fine, hintz the reason I had to go back to bay area hospital:(  I thought skin issues maybe sibo related but I feel and have seen and seriously trying not to think about it because it's disgusting.

oops. I didn't see that before posting or I would have at least referenced it. The two recipes are pretty similar, but I think the newer one is a little simpler/faster. Next time though I will search more before posting.

I love Middle Eastern food and eggplant, and here is another version we shared some time back:

The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
