Hi I was just wondering where people prefer to shop. Personally I love whole foods(tho it tends to be expensive..) and trader joes (and glad theres one right by my school!). We don't have a wild oats around here tho.

Yep, I like Whole Foods as well. I like Trader Joe's for a few specific items, but generally not to do my main shopping.

ETA: Although I wish they opened earlier, lol. I used to love Safeway because they opened very early in the morning and I could get in and out quickly.

I like Whole Foods and Wegmans best. I will also go to Shoprite. I've been to Trader Joes a couple of times--just not that impressed.

My favorite is Sunflower!! Local owned by a large company w/good buying power so all the organic/natural foods are much cheaper than Wild Oats or a regular grocery. I do go to Wild Oats for a few products, and Trader Joes on occasion. I also order from gluten-free Pantry and gluten-free Trading Company.

Yeah I'm the same with Trader joes- I'm not as impressed with it as some people seem to be. I go in for one or 2 things that are cheaper there than whole foods, but only cuz its 2 minutes down the road from whole foods (so I go to both when I shop). Is wild oats just like whole foods? Whats safeway?

Whole Foods (they get way too much of my paycheck)...and the Organic People's Co-op (for cheaper organic produce) and the vegan market (for random gluten-free raw foodist type stuff). I used to love Trader Joe's but I got sick of having to buy pre-packaged produce.

Farmer's markets. Best produce, hands down. Whole Foods always has a good meat selection. Once you've got the two of those, you're good! :-) :-P

Shaw's and Hannafords...they have a huge gluten free section now and they have really good prices. I bought a box of Pamela's dark chocolate cookies for $1.75 yesterday.

Markets are great. We were getting some dairy (for dh) and local eggs delivered to our door each week from a local farm, but gas prices drove them to stop delivering :( However, Sunflower, our local natural market just started carrying local eggs--much cheaper than the other brands. They sell out right a way. I thought that was a great idea...

No Wild Oats in my area, but from what I've read here, it's similar to Whole Foods, geared more towards health food type store than mainstream grocery store. Safeway is a large chain, mainstream grocery store.

I tend to do a combo of shopping at Whole Foods, Trader Joes (for Chicken Taquitos only - which seem to be Gluten free again); and my favorite is Mrs. Greens. I think they are only in the NY metro area. I've been meaning to get to Westerly because I hear they have good prices, but so far Mrs. Greens is my fave.

I do the majority of my shopping at Vitamin Cottage, the prices are so much better than Whole Foods and Wild Oats. But, I can't always find everything I need there so I am usually running around to all 3 stores for different things.

My local Sunflower Market doesn't many carry gluten-free productsat all, so I was a little disappointed.

I love Lakewinds natural foods, Fresh and Natural foods and Whole foods for a few items. WE are getting a Trader Joes here in MN in the next few months.

I am a Wegmans gal. I buy alot of their brand so it is not as expensive. I have always loved that store even before celiac came knocking at my door, now I have even more reasons to go there :)

i have to say i love whole foods, despite the $$

I did learn something useful though from my support group. well first whole foods was a sponsor at one of the meeetings, so they had a bunch of samples and brochures/handouts. I grabbed a bunch of stuff. when i got home i realized that i grabbed a bunch of $10 coupons. yay. now everytime i go in i look for them either at the door or at customer service.....

Whole Foods actually gets on my nerves, but I shop there anyway. Keep in mind that I live where the Landmark store is and it is ALWAYS a zoo. ALWAYS! They have 3 levels of parking and it's always packed. Very annoying. Fantastic artichokes though :P

Unless I need to do a big trip, or there is stuff at WH I can't get anywhere else, I shop at Sun Harvest (wild oats), because it's closer, and HEB, sometimes Randall's (safeway).

I do a lot of my shopping online for baked goods. glutenfreegourmet.com is my fav. We have Publix and Kroger and I get a lot there. I'm limited on other options...

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
