Rachel,

I'm no expert on this but it sounds like maybe the meds had more of a problem being absorbed with the "d". Sleeping on the sales floor...not the most comfortable or quiet place for a nap. :P:lol: Could it be that the "d" and allergic reactions took a lot out of you and your body is craving rest?

Hopefully this drowsiness won't last long.

Rachel,

That's awful that your vacation was such a fog. I'm glad you are doing better though.

Is it true about the insecticide being sprayed on the produce? It seems like we have to choose against non organic with all the pesticides etc or the organic with all the msg. Neither of them sounds like a good choice. I have still been choosing organic for the baby since I figure it's the lesser of two evils. But I'm not even sure of that since msg is so bad for the brain.

Organic produce has MSG? WHAT?

You're right! Don't know what came over me because I USUALLY don't let that stop me, lol. I did buy a really cute BRIGHT FUSCHIA PINK purse a month or two ago...figured I'd find something to wear it with...I did too--plenty. I think the fact that these slides were $115 nad aren't all that beautiful had something to do with it (Danskos are really comfortable and that means they are usually not that attactive).:lol:

They treat the crops (both organic and conventional) with a growth enhancer/pesticide called Auxigro which contains 30% MSG. They claim its safe and "natural".

Yeah...thats pretty much how I felt when I found all this out. I actually react to the MSG in the produce so it really sucks....there is no way to know whats been treated with it and what hasnt. I just keep gambling and I was doing real good for awhile and then I lost with some Auxigro treated sweet potatoes and yams...now I'm real sick. :(

Rachel,

That totally disgusts me. It doesn't sound like anything is safe to eat. Although, if this stuff is being sprayed on conventional and organic products then the organic would still be better. The lesser of two evils though. It wrecks havoc for you and all the others that are sensitive and who knows what it does to infants/young children, let alone the build up over the years for the adults. I would assume that there will be many, many more diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases.:blink::ph34r:

Went to my mom's on the 2nd for our first meal over there since going gluten free. She found bread for the kids which was good. She said we were being too picky when we brought out our own peanut butter for her to use. The dinner was wonderful though. My mother is a great cook. :D

Make lemon coconut muffins today. Actually orange coconut since I was out of lemon peel. They turned out pretty good. For those that have gluten-free Baking Classics I used regular shredded coconut. I don't buy the sweetened kind.

Okay, I went to the first site and printed out all 7 pages and read through them. I would not be at all surprised if what they're saying is true (glutamic acid can cause health problems).

BUT--where are the studies they are quoting? Why aren't they cited so we can read them as well? The fact that they don't list the specific studies takes so much from their credibility. It's just as bad as the vaccine manufacturers bleating, "Studies show that vaccines are safe."

I'm sorry, but I want to read the studies on which they base their claims.

One other thing was kind of weird: "It has been repeatedly demonstrated that infant animals fed processed free glutamic acid when young develop neuroendocrine problems such as gross obesity, stunted growth, and reproductive disorders later in life, and that they also develop learning disablities."

Um, I didn't know that they could measure learning disabilities in animals, or that learning disabilities in animals have even been identified. And they didn't cite any studies showing when and where this has been demonstrated.

I'm not arguing with their conclusion (yet). But shouldn't they back up their claims with specific studies?

Rachel--24 Collaborator

Hmmm...When I was first researching all this MSG stuff I came across alot of info regarding studies that were done on lab animals. I never bookmarked any of them but I'm sure I could find it again...I'll post some links when I have time to look for them. Getting ready to go see fireworks now. :)

Happy 4th everyone!!

Oh....as far as the learning disabilities I think I remember reading something about that. I think it had to do with learned behaviors in the rats. Like how rats can be trained to go through a maze to get the cheese sort of thing. I think they are referring to MSG interfering with this kind of learned behaviors. The rats who were given MSG were probably not able to function the same intellectually as the rats who were not given msg. Again, I'll have to look for that info. I think they can determine impaired brain function in animals with various tests.

Sheesh, I'm away for four days and I have, like, 200 pages to go through on this thead. Holy cow!

Happy belated birthday, Donna!

I agree on the shoes, if they're cute and they're calling your name, who cares if you don't have anything to match them

Yeah...I do belong to a union....a weak and sucky one! I wouldnt count on my union for anything....just calling them would be a complete waste of my time.

Grocery unions are the worst! When I worked at a grocery store they took $6 out of every check and said it was to work towards raises, etc. We did get raises, but the union dues went up the exact amount of the raise  They really are useless.

Be well everybody! :)

Yeah! If theres nothing to match the shoes...that can easily be fixed....just buy more clothes! :D

How was everyone's holiday?

I had a great view of the fireworks last night...we were on top of a hill. I could see the firework shows all over the Bay Area from Santa Clara to San Francisco. It was awesome. Those were all previews though...we had the best show right in front of us...it was alot of fun. :)

Mine was really good, went to the park and later had a bbq. I cooked a lot of good gluten-free food. :)

It rained here, and I mean rained, in the evening, I felt bad for everyone's firework plans. :(

Andrea, that's always an adjustment for family members to make when going gluten-free. Hopefully your mother will understand with time it's not about choice, but necessity for health. Glad you had a wonderful meal.

The muffins sound yummy!

My mom went on vacation this week and apparantly she brought the scale with her! :o

I cant tell if I'm gaining my weight back but it seems like I am...I know for sure I'm not losing anymore. :)

I've been hanging out with someone new and having alot of fun. Tonight he said when I get better he's gonna take me out for a big juicy burger....apparantly I talk about burgers alot.

I told him I cant ever have one with the bun...he said we'll bring gluten free bread or gluten free buns and have them make it up like that. He said hopefully in 6 months to a year we can go do that.

How cool is that! :D

I hope the Ketotifen works cuz I'll take him up on his offer. :)

Rachel, how exciting you have a new sweetie!! I know we can't see you but you seem to be glowing, this post just gushes off of the page. :D:D If that even makes sense?!?!

AndreaB Contributor

No wonder you haven't been writing as much Rachel. :P Why does your Mom need a scale on vacation. :o To make sure she doesn't gain too much weight or to keep you from weighing in all the time?:P

Where's everybody been on this thread?

Weekend is over and the next one is almost here again. Hubby is taking 3 of his boys to a ball game Sunday so I'm glad he had a long weekend. Me and the kids are staying home. 5 boys from a previous marriage. The other 2 get to go on the 23rd along with the oldest's wife. The youngest is 15, oldest 24.

Julie, your post made me laugh. I dont really have a new sweetie....just a friend. I'm not trying to rush into anything yet....just getting to know people. He is very sweet though so ya never know. I'm not usually much of a "gusher" so maybe thats a good sign?? ;)

Andrea...My mom isnt that much bigger than me but like most women she is obsessed with not gaining so I'm sure the scale is so she can make sure she doesnt snack too much on her vacation.

Before I got sick I dont think I ever stepped on the scale...it just wasnt something I thought much about. I always wanted to be bigger not smaller...plus being more of a tomboy all my life I wasnt too worried about my figure or anything. Well now that I lost weight all that has changed....now I'm about ready to run off to the store for a new scale!! :o

Rachel-

I was the same way. I never worried about my weight until I started losing. I was always active and never had a weight problem I was the only one among my friends who didn;t think she needed to lose weight. What sucked about this was as soon as I lost 5 pounds you could see it and once I lost more I just looked so thin. I stole my moms scale too.

So glad to hear you met a new man. How goes it with the meds so far?

Hi Rachel--I just got a chance to read up on the thread, and what you've been up to. I had to smile when I read about your new friend--I could "see" the smile on your face as I read. He sounds charming! I'm so glad you're out having fun--that's so great! :D

I have a pair of jeans that tell me if I've gained or lost a few pounds better than my scale! B)

Judy, you are on a roll today! Your friend is jealous cuz she gained all her weight back and you're looking good. She's not blind....just green with jealousy! ;)

Patti, thats how I'm figuring I'm gaining a couple pounds back...without the scale all I have is my pants to clue me in. :)

So far so good. I havent had any side effects from taking it. Its only been 1 week yesterday so still to soon to tell if its gonna help me or not. I'm feeling pretty good now that I'm getting over the mess I got myself into last week.

My dad had an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.  Fortunately, it was discovered during an exam.  The doctor could feel my dad's heart beating in his stomach.  The aneurysm burst when the doctor first touched it in surgery.  Since he was already hooked up to the bypass machine, my dad survived ten more years.  Close call! Triple A's can press on the nerves in the spinal cord causing leg pain.  I'm wondering if bowing the head might have increased the pressure on an aneurysm and then the nerves.   https://gulfcoastsurgeons.com/understanding-abdominal-aortic-aneurysm-symptoms-and-causes/ Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Presenting as a Claudication https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4040638/

You have an odd story there. To me, the mechanical trigger suggests a mechanical problem and lower leg pain is a classic sciatica symptom. The fact that the clear mechanical linkage is no longer there does not take away from the fact that it was - maybe something shifted and the simple alignment is no longer there. There's also a good chance I am wrong and it's something else entirely. @Scott Adams's mention of shingles is interesting. It seems possible but unlikely to me, but who knows. However, I am writing here to reinforce the idea of getting the shingles vaccine. Ask anyone who has ever had shingles and they will bend your ear telling you how bad it is. I watched my wife go through it and it scared the bejeebers out of me. Even if you had the chicken pox vaccine, you really want to get the shingles vaccine.
    • HectorConvector
Oddly this effect has gone now, just happened yesterday evening, the nerve pain is now back to its usual "unpredictable" random self again - but that was the only time I ever had some mechanical trigger for it, don't know why! There's no (or wasn't) actual pain in my neck - it was inside the leg, but when I looked down, now though, the leg pain just comes and goes randomly as before again.
    • HectorConvector
I had MRI scan a few years ago showing everything normal, and now it's no longer triggering the nerve pain when I bow my head today - it only seemed to happen yesterday, and that was the only time it happened! Just seemed weird as no movement has caused my usual nerve pain before. It's normally just random.

Very good pizzeria with small dining room in back of the restaurant. The owner's daughter has celiac & they have gluten free pizza & a gluten free menu. Some items from the regular menu can be made gluten free also. They have a lunch menu which we ordered from & my chicken with spinach & mozzarella over gluten-free penne was delicious. They also have Tuesday night pasta specials & Thursday night chicken pasta specials. We plan on going back for dinner soon.
