'tis rumored here that we shall have 3, perhaps 4 days in a row without rain. As of yet, no one believes it.

Loey Rising Star

Just an update for my dearest psillies.Clark got his lay off date two days ago. Unlike most of his department (who are done June 17th), Rob is being kept on until August. He has the choice to work until mid August or the end of August. He'll decide which as soon as he sees when his Master's program starts.

Tony is a happy camper because he can get the two weeks off this summer that he wanted to go back to NJ (Clark and I are only staying a week). He has two female friends that he bakes with and one of them goes to Brown with him. He likes her and feels it finally might be mutual. Poor baby is 0 for 9. He has been EXTREMELY helpful around the house and back to being my sweet boy.

Clark is taking medical leave starting Tuesday next week to take care of me. I might have a lot of illnesses and his getting laid off sucks but I still feel SO blessed to have the life I have and a big part of that is my all of you in my online family.

um, Lo... P'raps you didn't read the contract before you signed up to be a psilly, but we don't allow excess illness here. You'll just have to spend the summer feeling great. I'm sorry that wasn't made more clear to you, but you did sign the contract....

Now who says I don't feel great (emotionally and in great spirits due to all of you and this thread)! Should I do my updates on illness on a different thread?

Love,

P.S. I plan on spending my summer recuperating on the beach or in my backyard. Clark bought me a cook chair that has a pillow and if you flip the pillow over there's a face hole so you can tan on both sides.

Jestgar Rising Star

No sweetie, we care about you and appreciate you keeping us updated on how you're feeling. You are a psilly even when you aren't feeling that way.

Low, we absolutely need to hear psilly stuff AND pserious stuff, whatever is going on in one's life that needs to be shared with good friends. These incredible people have gotten me through the death of my dad, my dog and then my mom's stroke, quite literally - - I laid it all out on here, and mygawd, how they have helped me!

And I am KWEEN for another six pages, so WHOT I SAY GOES. B)

Oh, this sounds divine. . . . ....

I wonder if they have personalized prototypes for this chair. . . ....like, if you're buying one as a gift for someone who has an enormous nose, is there a huge hollowed-out nasal area? Or if your chin sticks out really far.. . . .....or you have a Cro-magnon brow ridge? Might be quite a market for this. . . . . . ...

They did have one with a cup holder on the arm but I like the other idea of a place below the phace.

See Lo? You still have some psilly going on!

And I don't plan on losing it. Just didn't know if I should take the serious stuff to a serious thread. I consider this thread as my home smile.gif . I do go to other threads to share and see if I can help but I always leave this one with a smile on my phace.

I'm using bed time to an advantage. I read or make earrings. When I feel good I paint in Clark's study. He really has been Superman and has been serving me meals in bed so I know I have a LOT of blessings and I count all of you psillies at the top!

OK, off to bed to finish a good trashy book.

P.S. Tony's grown up a lot this summer. He was able to get two weeks off this since it's far enough in advance to get coverage (there's a girl back home who also goes to Brown) and they bake cakes together. He likes her and thinks it's mutual. Perhaps it will be his 1 in 10 (poor Tony blink.gif). Anyway he's a happy, helpful camper this summer. He's going to be a dishwasher at Ninety-Nine (like TGIF) AND we get a 25% family discount there if we go to dinner with him. They have a gluten-free menu.

I can't put this on Da Book, someone might tell J.

He is having his first grown-up job interview. Its with an engineering firm. He sent them his resume yesterday and they called him this morning to come today.

Jestgar Rising Star

Wow. Verging on entering the real world! Scary and exciting.

It'll probably be more than his dad makes, or something equally horrible. :P

Wow, that's great news, Kherrignne! J is now a big man......how exciting!

kareng Grand Master

He just got back. He said it was mostly a " this is the job. Are you interested?". Said they will decide next week. Who knows? No mention of money. It's a " summer internship" so it's possible it doesn't pay. :o

Jestgar Rising Star

Well, experience is pretty important. It may get him paying jobs later.

kareng Grand Master

I'm thinking of sending him to Rachelle. She needs a manny. However, I fear that J & Max together might be a dangerous combination.

Indeed. . . . . . . .... . . . ....What words does J use to refer to his own, or anyone else's, testicles?

kareng Grand Master

I told him the whole story. I put it on FB. He said to tell Max that he really shouldn't need to refer to them very often. Also, he said that he feels that he likes to have a broad vocabulary. Therefore, balls, nuts & testicles are all used in his social & sporting world.

Tho hopefully not in his interview!

However NOT in the company of women, moms included. Men need their own language.

Tho hopefully not in his interview!

Unless he was interviewing with a company that engineers those hydraulic lifts for men with ED.

2 days without new posts! How will we crown a new monarch?

Jestgar Rising Star

I have moved the chicks into the sun room. built a pen out of a modular wire bookshelf and put both of their boxes in there. Oddly, they still hang in cliques, the 5 older ones in one, and the 4 younger in t'other. Also got them bigger food and water sources so I don't have to feed and water every 12 hours.

My living room smells so much better. :)

makes sense. sometimes you learn one path and never question it until you see someone take a different path

Interesting I read that toasted kasha groats have nutty flavor which I thought like oatmeal with banana and yogurt. Yes quinoa I have for dinner looking to switch oatmeal to buckwheat for breakfast. I have to look into amaranth
    • Aretaeus Cappadocia
I've never tried bananas or yogurt with kasha. It would probably work but in my mind I think of kasha as being on the savory side so I always add butter, peanut butter, or shredded cheddar cheese. Next time I make it I will try yogurt and banana to see for myself. Amaranth has a touch of sweet and I like to pair it with fruit. Quinoa is more neutral. I eat it plain, like rice, with chicken stock or other savory things, or with coconut milk. Since coconut milk works, I would think yogurt would work (with the quinoa). I went to the link you posted. I really don't know why they rinse the kasha. I've eaten it for decades and never rinsed it. Other than that, her recipe seems fine (that is, add the buckwheat with the water, rather than wait until the water is boiling). She does say something that I forgot: you want to get roasted/toasted buckwheat or you will need to toast it yourself. I've never tried buckwheat flakes. One potential issue with flakes is that there are more processing steps and as a rule of thumb, every processing step is another opportunity for cross-contamination. I have tried something that was a finer grind of the buckwheat than the whole/coarse and I didn't like it as much. But, maybe that was simply because it wasn't "normal" to me, I don't know.
    • xxnonamexx
The basic seems more like oatmeal. You can also add yogurt banana to it like oatmeal right. I see rinsing as first step in basic recipes like this one https://busycooks.com/how-to-cook-toasted-buckwheat-groats-kasha/ I don't understand why since kasha is toasted and not raw. What about buckwheat flake cereal or is this better to go with.

Celiac disease can have neurological associations, but the better-described ones include gluten ataxia, peripheral neuropathy, headaches or migraine, seizures, cognitive symptoms, and, rarely, cerebral calcifications or white-matter changes. Some studies and case reports describe brain white-matter lesions in people with celiac disease, but these are not specific to celiac disease and can have many other explanations. A frontal lobe lesion could mean many different things depending on the exact wording of the report: a white-matter spot, inflammation, demyelination, a small old stroke, migraine-related change, infection, trauma, vascular change, seizure-related change, tumor-like lesion, artifact, or something that resolved on repeat imaging. The word “transient” usually means it changed or disappeared, which can happen with some inflammatory, seizure-related, migraine-related, vascular, or imaging-artifact situations.  Hopefully they will find nothing serious.
