MissWingBat Newbie

thank you for the warm welcome little d. I have been eating ok this week, mainly tunas and fruit, but we are having a big binge tonight (FRIDAY NIGHT YAY!) so we'll put the kids to bed early and have a few drinks, which I know is the first thing to put weight on with... Doesn't help we are having chips and pies for dinner too!

BUT I PROMISE... (here we go they all say!!) that Monday - EXERCISE AND STRICT DIET!!

I nearly went to the dark side and bought some diet pills but the boxes were so confusing re: being celiac disease so thought I would TRY my hardest first. As my partner said, if they worked so well everyone would stop eating and just have these pills... And at $50 I'd rather go to the markets sunday morning and buy some nice fresh veges and fruit instead.

Hopefully will be back on soon (depending on the severity of tonight!!)

Hello all,

I had a decient weekend, my exercise for the weekend was packing and unpacking stuff for my mother-in-laws garage sale which my daughter made $43. and me well I only made $2.50 only because I did not take anything over until Saturday. My daughter success in the money area she could not wait to spend all her money. When we went to Walmart I only let her take half so she would not spend all at once. My husband had the flu on Friday he was sent home from work which he did not want to do because he did not want to lose his money but he was sent home early which in turn I had only 2 hours of sleep, I guess not even that because I went to bed at 9am and he called me at 9:30 to tell me that he was leaving at 11am so he could come home and then he called me at 10:30 to tell me that he was coming home and to open the door for him and so then I just stayed up after that because my daughter wanted to leave at 1pm from school so she could help with her Ma (grandma) at the garage sale. Next time her butt is staying at school because the reason for going to school is for her spelling test which she never took  So now she has to take it today along with homework that that she did not get when she left early.

Ok so here are my meals from Friday on

Hello all

Monday I was so hungry everything that I ate did not satisfy my hunger, I guess it could because of the weather here is in the 40's to 60's and I am close to my monthly so that could be my problem. But anyway I ate so much on Monday and had way too much caffinee

B gluten-free toast

milk

water

D- 5:45 before I went to work

gluten-free sandwich with ham and cheese

DDP

working

sunflower seeds

D- at 1am

the other half of the stuffed potato

ddp

another snack

coffee

milk

a no no cinniamon roll

1/2 vitamin water grape

Tuesday up at 2pm

coffee

D- brown rice tortilla with sunshine patty and cheese

1/2 grape vitamin water

finally nothing else and no caffine

water

Wedsnesday

B- coffee

gluten-free maple buckwheat flakes

and nothing else so far but will be going to Jack in the Box to meet my husband for lunch I think that they have salads there, we will see.

My exercie for yesterday was walking my dog down the street to see a friend who was moving out and helping her to move a dresser out which landed on my foot the one that I broke but thank goodness nothing was broke but the dresser it fell to pieces when we picked it up and dropped it only 2 inches off the ground to go over the thresh hold of the door. I think that if it was any higher it would have hurt me even more.

I hope whoever live in California who post on here that you and your family and homes are safe.

Hey everyone!

Been crazy busy around here!

I've been doing pretty well, not really dieting but just portion control and exercise. The exercise plan I have seems to be working pretty well and I like all the things I'm doing so that helps.

Anyway, the great news is that I actually weighed in under that number that I've never been under since before children. My weight is 131.8 today. Woohoo! May it keep descending!!!

Good luck and keep working hard, eventually it will pay off in all of us.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Joni

P.S. Had an OBGYN follow up visit for my ovarian cysts and he said everything looks fine and all I need to do is come back in a year for my annual checkup. I'm so pleased with that news.

Congrat BellyFat (that is so not a flattering name!) You sound like you are doing great on the diet too...

WEll, I knew the week that I wanted to start to lose weight I would blow out - we had birthdays galore this week and lots of snacks, but I tried to keep it under wraps - most days. I have lost a kilo and I bought a treadmill on thursday so I can watch TV, mind kids and exercise (and most probably talk on the phone too) SUPERMUM!

Slowly, slowly, slowly. I think I have a prob with dairy so going to cut it out this week to see if any difference. Been gluten-free for a while now, still bloated, gassy, migranes, and cramps everyday. Also, everytime I eat rice, I get a migrane the next day - can anyone shed any light on their 'other' allergies and how did they find out about them?

Bellyfat, congrats on your exam I know that is probley a load off your mind. As for me I have been really hungry lately and I could not figure out why until I realized that I was eating junk or little foods with not a lot of calories of substance. So the last two nights I have made real food gluten free of course and I felt better not hungry after. It started after my lunch with my husband at Jack in the Box on Wednesday.

B- Maple buckwheat flakes cereal

coffee

L- chicken sandwhich from Jack in the Box

Curly fries

D Coke

I was a little tired after eating this and had a hard time getting up the next day and I was not very motivated either

water

Thursday

B- gluten-free waffles

milk

coffee

L- Tuna salad with nut and rice crakers

ddp

D - gluten-free Sandwhich with ham and cheese

ddp

water

Friday

B- coffee

gluten-free toast

milk

D- fried cube stake in butter and rice flour (cube stake is kinda like chicken fried stake but only made out of beef and kind of grisselly)

mashed potato

green beans

working ate at 12:30 am

left over dinner

ddp

vitamin water Kiwi/Strawberry

Saturday up at 1pm

coffee at 5pm

D- Spegetti with cheese, purple onion, bell pepper with gluten free noodles :P oh so good

DDP

Working will be leftovers :P Oh yum yum!!!

The spegetti was my husbands idea he wanted to go with me to the store and get the jarred kind of sauce I was afraid that I would not be able to find anything that I could eat. I took a chance and picked up the Prego roasted garlic and herb, I did not see anything in the ingredients that was bad for me. The jar did have all natural on it, no preservatives. I know that does not mean anything, but I took a chance with it and ate it and no reaction so far, yes I am tired but that is because I woke up at 1pm but other wise I feel good, not gassy yet, no stomach noises that is a good sign. When my husband took the groceries out of the bag he asked why did I get two packages of noodle, I said one for you your kind and the other is mine, and told him that since I have been eating gluten free I have felt better, not as tired, and my bathroom trips are better, and then he started to make fun of me for going to the bathroom all the time but it was in a good way of making fun of me. So anyway I am looking forward to eating. I will have to weight myself tonight to see if I have lost of gained. hopefully lost.

Thanks little d and MissWingBat!

MissWingBat - when I registered on this site I felt so miserable and bloated and all I could think of was how fat my belly always felt. It was horrible so I entered a horrible username. Now, feeling better I wish I could change it even though it makes me realize how far I've come and how much better I feel lately.

Birthdays are hard and so are the holidays. Nice that you have a treadmill now and can do other things while you workout. Yes, go SUPERMUM! I can't help much about the other food allergies because I've only been gluten free for almost 3 months and haven't figured all that out yet myself. How long have you been gluten free?

Yes little d, it was a huge relief to hear that I'm fine. Thanks!

Sound like your doing great yourself. Way to go on the scale! Keep it up!!!

I wish we could just stop those cravings in their tracks. I get those times when I feel starving all the time, or crave sweets every day for several. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just one day, but it's always several in a row. Enough to really mess up all the hard work we do to lose weight.

Hello everyone,

It looks as though I gained a couple pounds in Hawaii. Maybe it's just water weight. I was really active: surf lessons twice, lots of exercise in the water (current was a little stronger than our usual rolling waves).

I ate a lot of low nutritional value carbs on the trip. We didn't buy the groceries, so not a lot of veggies, but, all in all, I could have done worse.

I'm home now, ready to go at it again. The house didn't get hit too hard with ash and stuff from the fires (we live in San Diego), so I won't have to spend all my time cleaning ash like in 2003. And, I won't get a respiratory infection (cross fingers the fires don't come again with the Santa Ana's this weekend) like 2003 because we were in Oahu during most of it. We only got 24 hours of throat and eye burning before we were on a plane to the Islands. Last time (fires in 2003), I got really sick for about 4 months after them, so I'm happy to be able to breathe and go to the gym.

Prayers to all those who suffered losses this year, and Thank You to the firefighters, their families, national guard, inmates who contributed, and the many people who continue to help to get California through this.

I gotta get to work. Today is my first day back. I'm excited for a fresh start.

Hey fajitas,

Glad to hear you are back and safe and sound. I cannot imagine what some people must be dealing with. I hope you don't have any problems with upper respiratory infections. Those can be a mess and tire one out for so long. My heart goes out to you and them with prayers of faith and hope.

Sound like your ready to get right back into your routine. Good for you! I'm sure those couple of pounds with disappear quickly.

Have a great first day back at work!

And tell us more about Hawaii. I've never been, but it sure sounds like fun.

HI ladies,

how terrible to have that devastation so close - hope the clean-up isn't too bad Fajitas. We look like having a huge cyclone season this year so we'd better start preparing. This adds a new dimension for us now that I am diagnosed because I will not only have to have food for the family, but gluten-free choices as well.

The diet, I think may be working. I think my problem is, my nemisis, the scales. Because I feel great every morning, I think my tummy is shrinking, but then when I hop on the scales - no difference! I think I need a tape measure instead. It has been extremely hot here already (we are going into summer) so the kids and I are drinking heaps of water and eating lots of watermelon and icy-poles (my frozen-fruit recipe!). So hopefully the scales are just reflecting water weight.

I have been modifying my exercise routine. Because I have 3 kids and can't leave them to go bike riding or to the gym, I work out in their nap time (because do you know how hard it is to do yoga with 3 x kids thinking you're being a horsey!) and twice a day we all go for a swim. I usually do aqua-exercises with bub in my arms, she loves the jumping ones. We live in a highset house and I'm on a mission to do the stairs to excess - I'll take one cup or plate up at a time instead of a big pile, therefore I am going up 5 times in a row instead of once. It's little things like that, keeping active, that is helping. What doesn't help is the fact that before DX, i would rest 4-5 hours a day, not moving, and yet still lose weight. Now I am eating healthy, I seem to be putting it on!

So far I am at 133 pounds (I worked out how to change my scales over instead of kilos!) and eating lots of fruit, veg and little carbs. I have cut out dairy for 2 days, that is, except for my morning coffee - should I substitute for soy? Thanks ladies and have a wonderful day!

MissWingBat, for my coffee I have using Land o Lakes brand of milk that is Lactose free and it is pretty good, of course I am out of it right now and i have been using regular milk and I have felt a differance so I will defiantly have to get more tomorrow. This milk is pretty good I think, I like the soy too but It does not like me, thats ok though

Hi there Little D,

Is that like evaporated milk? I am in OZ so don't know that brand. Someone suggested goats milk instead. I haven't really looked into different milks so it might be right under my nose...

I hate milk anyways, funny that - I grew up on a farm and hated milk, bread and meat all my childhood. Mum just thought I was fussy but I guess it was my body telling me something.

It wasn't until I became a mother and started eating sandwhiches and dinners (I used to live on fruit and alcohol as a single girl) that I started getting sick. So I can say that I have never, in my whole life, actually drunk a full glass of milk (unless its flavoured!)

What about cheese? Is there some others that I can try?

I'm sorry I forgot that you are in Australia. I don't know what you would have there but I guess look for a carton of milk that has Lactose free the other kind that I am thinking of is Lactiad Milk don't know the name of the company who makes it. but these taste pretty close to the real thing. I know fresh goats milk like from directly from the goat is good. My grandparents had a goat farm and we would always get to milk and feed the kids and have some left over for us to drink quite good I thought. But then again I have not touched a goat since i was 6yrs old. good luck with the milk hunt.

Yay, we have another Aussie here :D

If you ever need a dairy-free milk, look for Aussie Dream. It's a rice milk, and it's everywhere (maybe you've found it already). The calcium enriched version tastes best, imo. I don't know about cheese over there (but I don't think I ever looked).

Sooo, anyway, hi everyone. I finally lost the pounds I wanted to lose, just focusing on keeping up with yoga and stuff (for some reason, I lose weight really quickly whenever I start doing ashtanga yoga  ...strange, but I'm not complaining ) Hope you all are doing well.

Okay, Lazy, lazy, lazy me.

Haven't worked out ... still eating low value carbs. Had a re-do on a root canal on Wednesday, so didn't feel like working out. I'm going today - I AM ! Steamed up veggies this morning, so I'm ready to get on that train again.

Congrats on the weight, Mango. Ashtanga Yoga, huh? I'll have to look into that.

Joni, Hawaii is the bomb. We go every year. Every year, I'm not disappointed. The water's warm, and if the weather (on Oahu, at least) is bad on one side of the island, we just hop over to the other side. If you ever have an opportunity to go, do it ! I'd just recommend not going in July or August - it's crazy hot in the summer months. It's beautiful there - the plants, the topography, the water. The whole island is eye candy.

It's funny, MissWingBat, how everyone has their weather phenomenon to deal with. People who don't live on the West Coast US can't really imagine dealing with earthquakes & we can't imagine dealing with Tornadoes, Cyclones, & Hurricanes. 6 of one, half dozen of the other. They're equally frightening.

Anyway, here I go. I'm off to the gym in about 1/2 hour. Really.

Great job Mango04! I have the same results since I've added Ashtanga Yoga back in my schedule. It's amazing. I only do it twice a week right now. How often are you practicing?

Oh fajitas, you make me want to go to Hawaii so badly. Eye candy sounds good right now since we are going into winter months.

I haven't weighed in yet, been eating a little too many peanut butter cups. Yikes!

I'm glad you've had the same results! Ashtanga yoga is the best :D. I'm only practicing twice a week too. I think they say you need at least three classes per week to experience the full benefits (whatever those might be lol). Maybe I'll try to add an extra class.

Hello all, I am very tired right now because I worked last night, which I was extra and I knew that I had a job interview at 1pm so I only had 2 hrs of sleep today. It is so good to know the reason for being tired, not because of food so I do still feel pretty good except for being tired. I can still function think strait can carry a conversation and not slur my words, before when I was eating gluten all the time I could not even do that.

Hey everyone,

I pulled a muscle in my calf saturday while I was coaching a soccer game. It started getting better yesterday, but I was giving the horse water and I dropped the hose. When I jumped to avoid getting soaked I had the most horrible pain in my calf again. It felt like someone punched me there and it tightened up in a painful knot. I'm still limping today so I doubt I'll be doing any exercises this week.

My whole calf muscle feels bruised when I touch it. Boohoo!

I guess I'll just have to be extra careful with my eating this week. I'll post meals later!

Have a great day!

Hello ladies,

How is everybody doing, I feel great I did not work last night and I had much deserved sleep and I feel great. I was thinking back from Sunday and I did not take a nap before I went to work so I was up at 7:30 am no nap before work off work at 7am took my daughter to school home by 8:30 went to walmart to get an outfit for an interview home by 9:30 went to bed up at noon so 2 1/2 hours of sleep got up and went to my job interview at 1pm left there got my daughter at school when it was time went to work at 6pm. off work Tuesday morning same routine, I knew that I was off tuesday night so I stayed up a little I had things to do, went to bed at 11am I know crazy up at 1pm I thought that I had something to go do, but I went back to sleep until 2pm still wondering if there was something that I needed to do, so that was maybe 3 hours of sleep so not bad 4 maybe 5 hours of sleep in two days I would not recommend this to anyone I am still sleepy a little.

My meals for yesterday

coffee at 5 am I needed something

from Sonic Fruit smoothy strawberry, bananna

D- brown rice tortilla with sunshine patty and cheese

DDP

Today

B- Coffee

maple buckwheat flakes cereal with milk

no idea for dinner or my meal for work tonight

I guess that I am going to have to step it up on the weight loss and excercise because my husband said to me last night that he wants another baby, now after I just turn 37 yrs old and telling me for the last 5 yrs that he did not think that we could afford another one. I don't mind because I loved being pregnate with my daughter, and I had a wonderful time only gained 12lbs and not any morning sickness just a little nausea. only threw up once and that was during my labor transition into the third phase. So maybe I will telling ya'll some news if he does not change his ming again, the last time he started talking about a baby he changed his mind the next day this time he told me to make an appointment with my OB and ask her if my body is ok for a baby. I think that it is but with my age I am not so sure and I don't think that I will a good pregancy like the last one.

Hi,   I've started taking calcium citrate supplements from Webber Naturals. It says that it contains no gluten, but not that it is gluten-free. I've reached out to the company by e-mail and they have assured me that it is gluten-free. However, I think I'm reacting to it. I've searched everything else I consume and haven't found any possible source of contamination. I've been looking for other supplement brands that would be certified gluten-free and safe and have found a few options, but none of them ship to Canada. Does anyone know where I could buy calcium citrate supplements (apparently calcium citrate is the one that causes the least constipation, and this is an issue for me). Thanks in advance!

I am so sorry for your long-term pain and suffering. My symptoms are very similar to yours. Diarrhea for seven years now. Two doctors told me to take Metamucil. It didn’t help. Stomach pain, bloating and terrible nighttime diarrhea got worse and worse. I only stumbled upon Celiac as a possibility through a 23andMe genetic test which indicated I had the genetic marker for it. I went to my GP asking for the test and was told sure - I’ll give you the order, but you probably don’t have it. Guess what?  My blood work was off the charts positive. So high of a number, in fact, that the gastroenterologist I was sent to confirmed me even before a biopsy.  The gastro visit was just last week. I’ve been gluten free for a month now. Small improvement so far, but I’m hoping to continue healing.

But there will still probably be times when you will get together with your brother and father in their home when food will be involved. You need to think through how you will handle that. In the meantime, separate your stuff from their stuff and keep it under lock and key if necessary.
