My Progress

I know some of you guys wanted to know of my progress, so I thought I would post

Got my recent stool test results back today from Metametrix:

I now have 3 parasites instead of 5 and to my complete shock Blastocystis was not detected. I feared that i would need to be on months and months of antibiotics to treat that, but now I dont have to. only 3 bugs left are Endolimax nana, hookworm and an unknown protozoan...I will do a 5 day course of mebendazole and follow up with Alinia for 2 weeks or maybe longer. I felt really good when i was on alinia last time, but after i stopped I relapsed...maybe needed a longer course

Other GI functional tests looked much better...fecal anti-gliadin was down from a 90 to a 1, sIgA went from 40 up to 106 and my probiotics were all in normal range. Also no candida, yeast or c.diff, which showed up in the past

All in all progress is being made...I attribute this to the high dose probiotics and mediclear plus supplement.

Unfortunately im still dealing with a sensitive upper GI and feel I need to be very restricted with what I eat. Ive been able to tolerate larger meals, which is good but if I stray from my diet I will experience a reflux/spasm sensation in my esophagus - still have to get to the bottom of that. at first i thought it was fats, but ive been eating salmon and olive oil and pumpkin seeds w/o anyt problems. I also suspected fructose, which may be an issue but I ate some dates last week (which are high in fructose) and didnt have a problem.

I am so desperate to get back in the gym but lifting weights doesnt seem to agree with the reflux, so i have to figure out a way to correct that...any suggestions?

Anyway, thanks for all your support...i dont think i could function without coming here

Jason

Where on earth are all those parasites coming from?? Ya know... it might be that you're gonna have to go OFF everything to get a definitive diagnosis... you're so young. If you can... give it all a chance. Continue w/ your doctors and find out what's really going on!

So glad to hear you are making progress, Jason. That is good news. I have a feeling that if you can get rid of those bugs that are plaguing you, you will be a new man! Keep up the good work.

Have no idea...but I believe it has something to do with low intestinal antibodies..maybe due to gluten or flora imbalance...at least the probiotics are helping and I will never live without them again

Hi Jason:

I'm glad you eliminated 2 of those 5 parasites. You probably don't need to consider the 'unknown protazoan'. I never treated mine and didn't suffer any symptoms. However, as long as you still have hookworm and Endolimax nana, you may suffer digestive challenges. Your improvements in digestion certainly point to less parasites and more good bacteria in your gut. Nevertheless, larger meals often influence reflux (as well as caffeine, alcohol, onions and a few other specific foods and drugs). Whatever you do to improve your gastrointestinal health (like taking probiotics) should also decrease reflux. Good luck!

Thanks- I know many people still question the Metametrix DNA test. they say a positive of anything doesnt necessarily mean you will have symptoms or disease..but i feel better knowing that the bugs are not showing up

I find that the elliptical can give me a pretty good workout without getting my reflux going when I'm in a glutened state and am having reflux problems. It's not going to do anything much with your upper body compared wit weights, but at least it is something. Decreasing processed foods does the trick for me as far as getting rid of those nagging symptoms.

Hi Jason:

I can't believe people question the Metametrix DNA test. Maybe they have never experienced all the gut infections from bacteria, candida and parasites, that we have suffered. Without that test, I'd probably still be suffering from c-diff, because traditional docs only use a c-diff toxins test, which 'experts' consider a 'iffy' test, or they rely on colonoscopies to show irreversible c-diff damage, which they treat by cutting out sections of the colon. I really appreciate a test which identifies the DNA of the 'bugs', rather than just looking for signs of damage which the bugs cause.

Also previous stool tests didn't report the exact level of candida fungus. So I was advised that my candida was a 'normal' level. However, the Metametrix test results advised that I treat the candida, because low levels are not 'normal'. After treating candida I never again suffered from constipation and resulting hemorrhoidal pain.

Obviously I'm a big fan of Metametrix DNA stool tests, as well as Enterolab tests for gluten intolernace and other allergies. It took me 6 years of testing and treating celiac disease, 6 food allergies, 4 bacteria, one parasite and candida, but I'm FINALLY healthy.

Hang in there, Jason. Keep getting tested and treating those bad bugs, while you keep taking probiotics. You will get well and enjoy normal digestion again.
