Another One Bites The Dust...vertigo?

Adding to the pile of mounting issues since going gluten-free, I'm recovering from a bought of vertigo. Holly mother of spinning craziness! I have never had vertigo issues before until last night. I was sound asleep and lightly woke up to flip over and BAM, the room started spinning like a drunk tequila binge in college. I'm not trying to make light of this situation, but I'm pretty ticked at the issues that are mounting since going gluten-free. My energy, the exhaustion, funky blood tests, the reactions to foods, etc...

Anyone else suffer vertigo for over 15 straight hours? Do I need to be concerned? It is slowly fading, but I think it's just lurking and thinking about a comeback. Is this just gluten-free healing? I don't have any sinus issues, cough, or anything stuffy in my head that I could connect it to. Just wondering.

P.S. I have my capsule endoscopy on Tuesday. I've never been so excited about 10,000 photos of my guts being taken as I am for this. I hope I get copies :P

Vertigo is the reason I started searching for answers.

You could have an inner ear infection. They don't always hurt. I had a friend that kept wobbling on her High heels. We kidded her about it but she said she was dizzy and everything was off. Had a horrible ear infection that took 6 weeks of antibiotics to get rid of .

I guess I'll let the doc take a look. I've never had an ear infection in my entire life, but lately, stranger things have happened :)

I second getting along to the dr, a friend of mine had a quick onset virus which basically hit her with vertigo for a couple of days, then wore off. She couldn't really walk for the first day or two, it was pretty dramatic, and she needed treatment to get better as it was affecting her inner ear.

I had vertigo as the side effect of a virus once. The doctor gave me some meds that took care of it. The doctor said the virus had been going around and a lot of people had been coming in dizzy (on campus).

When I first went gluten/casein free, the woozy, weird, the-earth-is-moving-but-I'm-not feeling was my cue that I had ingested something reactive. Although the dizzy feeling made me nervous to eat anything new, it also proved to be an excellent quick gauge. I never had to wait hours or longer to know that I shouldn't eat something again; all I had to do was take a couple bites and wait 5 minutes. The dizziness would last a few hours with decreasing intensity.

As my gut is healing, the dizziness has become less and less. My intestines and my brain are absolutely in sync.

Yes, I have had the dizzy reaction also. All of mine were food reactions. The first one was several hours after I ate. I woke up with the room spinning. It lasted for 6 hours before I was able to get up and walk around. I also have to keep my eyes open during this time. I now avoid the foods that set it off. I am so afraid of it happening again.

I've had vertigo and other odd sensations off and on for the past 18 months... all which started after going gluten-free, and I'm extremely careful about my diet and possible cc sources. None of the doctors I've seen can explain why it's happening. The EMT says my ears are fine, and I have no vitamin deficiencies. I'm assuming it's stress.

@Aretaeus Cappadocia thank you for your reply and the link, that is very helpful to get a visual of just how small of an amount can cause a reaction. I know I am not consuming gluten or coming into contact with gluten from any other source. I will stop touching/tossing bread outside! My diet has not changed, and I do not have reactions to the things I am currently eating, which are few in number. My auto immune reaction just seems so severe. The abdominal pain is extreme. It takes a lot out of me. I guess I will be this way for the rest of my life if I ever happen to come into contact with gluten? I appreciate the help.

Thankyou I did find out the Infectious disease is the route to go rather than dermatologist. I did reach out to two major hospitals and currently waiting on approval for one of them in Infectious Diseases to call me. I also did have implants ( I didn't know and sense not properly in my medical. Neither did surgeon)in 2006 and there was a leak 2023 during the same time I was dealing with covid, digestive issues, eyes and skin.Considering I " should  be fine" not consuming gluten/wheat, taking vitamins for sibo and STILL feeling terrible. It has to be parasites. I also take individual eye drops prescribed, could there be an issue there? Anyways my pcp thinks I need therapy because again they don't acknowledge my digestive issues because in my records it shows im fine, hintz the reason I had to go back to bay area hospital:(  I thought skin issues maybe sibo related but I feel and have seen and seriously trying not to think about it because it's disgusting.

oops. I didn't see that before posting or I would have at least referenced it. The two recipes are pretty similar, but I think the newer one is a little simpler/faster. Next time though I will search more before posting.

I love Middle Eastern food and eggplant, and here is another version we shared some time back:

The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
