Hi, and welcome. I hope you've found your answer with the gluten!

You might wait until you have your labs back and you know whether you might need a celiac biopsy before you go gluten-free. Being gluten-free for more than a few weeks will throw your biopsy results off and some board members have had to wait a few months for an appointment.

Once your celiac testing is done it is safe to go gluten-free to see if you're intolerant. There is no danger at all in trying the diet. People can get all sorts of symptoms first going off gluten. It is like a drug for some folks and you can go through a bit of withdrawal. Also, if you change your diet around a lot, like eating a lot less starch all of a sudden, you can feel a little funny for a while.

If you feel that you are losing your will to live then please find someone to talk to. Don't give up. Find a doctor that listens. If you do have a gluten issue then read through the forums to find how to go completely gluten free. There are good posts on how to go through your current food to see if anything is safe and what kitchen supplies should be replaced.

I know how you feel, as many of us do. I was so sick for so long that I had really lost all hope and the only thing that kept me alive was my children. As was mentioned you don't want to go gluten free yet if you are going to have any other celiac related testing done. Please be aware that even on a full gluten diet some of us will have false negative test results so when all testing is finished do give the diet a good strict try. Celiac can have serious brain impact which can cause depression along with other issues and those may well resolve once you are gluten free. Hang in there. You have found a great place for support and info. Ask any questions you need to and read as much as you can. The gluten-free lifestyle can be a bit tough to get used to at first but once you have healed a bit it is well worth the trouble.

The gluten can cause depression and just plain feeling poorly. Hypo-thyroid can cause the same things. You need to treat both. But it can make a really big improevment in your quality of life, so it's well worth doing.
