ARCHIVED Tired Of Having No Life
GottaSki replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh boy...do I ever understand this thread. The worst time seemed to be about a year to two years after I was finally diagnosed with Celiac Disease -- after all -- we finally had a name for what was making me so sick and all I had to do to improve my health was remove gluten, right? Here is the brutal truth -- some of us take a very long time to have... -

ARCHIVED Paleo Diet, High Histamine Issues?
GottaSki replied to Celiac Mindwarp's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Bummer...I hate hearing that you are having trouble with the foods you added back. You can tell pretty quickly if you are having histamine food issues...you can remove them for one week and then reintroduce...for me I had huge reaction to avocado back during the great elimination of 2011 and had no idea why -- fast forward to all this histamine/mast cell... -

Country Ribs Roasted Asparagus Butternut Fries Great to see Mw back Going to check out that bread -- never hurts to have more good bread -- been very happy that I found a store that carries Canyon Bakehouse for 4.89 and then I buy eight at a time to get a 10% case discount. -
ARCHIVED To Biopsy,or Not To Biopsy
GottaSki replied to mbledtke's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep...my last one was 8K before insurance contracted price lowered it a bit. Plenty of people are diagnosed without endoscopic biopsy. The criteria is to have three or four out of five: Antibodies Genetic Markers Biopsy Resolution of symptoms with complete removal of gluten I'm forgetting one...will add later if I have time to look it up.... -

ARCHIVED Fragrance-Less
GottaSki replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I hate to add fuel to the fire..........but my chemical/scent sensitivity has gotten increasingly worse since the removal of gluten. I am not talking science right now...I know I can't tolerate scents or smoke any longer...i used to be able to gracefully excuse myself. Um, no longer. If sensitivities are increasing....IMHO...it is time to look at histamine... -

GottaSki replied to MsHolland's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh Shannon Sweetie -- if I could hug you, I would. There are many of us that completely understand your frustration. I personally would love to "educate" the nurse that flippantly suggested you try to remove gluten prior to testing. Yet, here we are. I do admit I gave your post a very quick read and will be back - perhaps with more info. For now...- 14 replies

ARCHIVED To Biopsy,or Not To Biopsy
GottaSki replied to mbledtke's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have celiac. The biopsy is still a very good idea...only you can decide if the cost is worth the information that it may provide -- tough call IMO. We are here for you...either way. Let us know how we can help...and if you haven't seen it yet...check out this thread - you will be glad you did: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie... -
ARCHIVED To Biopsy,or Not To Biopsy
GottaSki replied to mbledtke's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! I am a proponent of the endoscopy/biopsy - except when the current state of our medical/health insurance system puts the test out of reach financially. A biopsy is a good idea, but not essential. Your tests do indeed indicate Celiac Disease. Do you have the reference ranges provided for each test -- these are helpful to us as the reference... -

Dinner tonight was at the ballpark for Padre home opener. Son had a dog, I had encore chicken. There may have been cheetos and brownies...throwback padre colored snacks are tradition for my kids. ARCHIVED Heavy Metals Testing - How To Do It Right?
GottaSki replied to Seeking2012's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome Seeking! I don't think you were met with a wave of criticism -- you came to a Celiac Disease Forum and talked about other testing before completing celiac antibody testing. I have to agree with the other posters...take the first step to complete celiac antibody along with nutrient testing and if those do not provide answers -- by all means... -

Still envy your carrots....need to plant the rainbow seeds I purchased last year. My upstate NY Uncle Jack is back in the hospital and cousins think this time is different as in may be time -- wonderful corn farmer and better man -- is 92, but never easy to watch those we love suffer. Planting something is on my mind this evening. -

Loopy Laura Glad you are improving! ARCHIVED High Igg But No Issues With Gluten
GottaSki replied to Nebraskamommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One way will be to retest after three and six months gluten-free. The antibodies should come down if all gluten is removed (and was the cause of the elevation). Another is symptom improvement/resolution while gluten-free. Edited to be clear: I am talking about re-testing the celiac antibody test that was positive (tTG-IgG) Hope that is clear... -
ARCHIVED Intestines Bulging? Should I Worry?
GottaSki replied to tri-gal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mine contract and swell as well. Not as bad as prior to dx...unless I run into my severe intolerances which cause extreme abdominal swelling due to an overload of histamine in the digestive system. If you are not, try keeping a food/symptom log as it can help figure out the cause of lingering inflammation triggers. -
ARCHIVED Newbee Question
GottaSki replied to moontheloon's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome! Six weeks is still early days in terms of complete intestinal healing. Often we have trouble digesting other foods during the healing process. The most common problem is dairy. If the issue is dairy or any other particular food...remove it for several months and then try it again as most folks get these foods back once their digestive system...
