ARCHIVED My Dr Asking What Tests To Order To Screen For celiac disease! Need Info!
GottaSki replied to shayre's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Total Serum IgA Tissue Transglutaminase IgA -- (commonly called tTG-IgA) Tissue Transglutaminase IgG (tTG-IgG) Endomysial IgA (EMA-IgA) Demiadated Gliadin Peptide - IgA (DGP-IgA) Demiadated Gliadin Peptide - IgG (DGP-IgG) older Gliadin Tests: Anti-Gliadin Antibody IgA (AGA-IgA) Anti-Gliadin Antibody IgG (AGA-IgG) Nutrient testing is also important... -

Thanks IHeart There is a lovely rich vanilla cake about to be decorated for St. Patty's Day on my kitchen counter....but sadly I completely forgot to purchase a brisket to get it bathing in brine so my guys will get a cake...but will have to take a raincheck on their corned beef this year -- going to run out to pick one up soon so that I can at least... -
ARCHIVED How To "maximize" Testing My Kids
GottaSki replied to tri-gal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While your DGP-IgG was not positive, I would run the Complete Celiac Antibody panel again to compare results -- while it will not be proof for official diagnosis -- if it has come down substantially it is yet another piece of the puzzle. If it has gone up it will be an indication that gluten is sneaking in your diet and you need to review your diet, meds... -
ARCHIVED What Could Cause Elevated Igg And Iga In Toddler Other Then Celiac?
GottaSki replied to mmcc54's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you talking about tTG-IgA and tTG-IgG -- i think you have answered this before, but if she has only had Tissue Transglutaminase antibody tests, then she should have the remaining celiac antibody tests run: EMA-IgA DGP-IgA DGP-IgG Good luck with the biopsies -- I hope they bring the answers needed for your family -- make sure the GI is going... -

ARCHIVED Say You Have Celiac Without Dx
GottaSki replied to patz16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes....and I was diagnosed with all markers. I most especially hate your number five which played a very large part in it taking 43 years and completely destroyed health to finally find celiac disease was an issue for my entire family. Pregnancy is one of the common triggers for celiac disease. As for testing your child. Are they currently eating... -

GottaSki replied to schrumby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
lol....I was looking for this just last night for a flour tortilla recipe....I usually get my flours from amazon...and they don't currently carry, so I am going to try with plain tapioca starch which is pretty darn elastic and expanding. If I fail, I'll look elsewhere. Thanks for posting -

ARCHIVED Never Tested....and Wish I Had
GottaSki replied to Wakingup's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Waking....that can't sleep The severe reaction you are experiencing would not happen unless you have either Celiac Disease or Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivy -- either have the same treatment -- complete removal of all gluten -- even cross contamination while cooking (ie restaurants with gluten-free menus that cook those gluten-free items in common... -

ARCHIVED Say You Have Celiac Without Dx
GottaSki replied to patz16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me...I think the difference is to whom you are speaking. In our family - after I was finally diagnosed my teens tested negative yet had complete symptom resolution gluten-free -- one of them has officially been dx'd by symptoms, genes and symptom resolution and the other is happily NCGS without dx. My eldest was an adult at the time of my dx - had... -

Lookie there...I ask and poof it appeared...thanks Addie! I still have my big plans that took a back burner last spring/summer to Mom's and then my health...but I am still dreaming and if things keep on the right path healthwise -- I am ready to flip my yard into something Shroomie would be proud of. If I don't get that far...my patio herbs will be very... -

Zippity Do Da...Zippity eh!!! So the recent med changes have kept me mostly vertical for well over a week and I haven't had any food reactions (even with safe foods) only minor heat related hiccups....so today I made a sauce the same color as Velveeta with an entire butternut squash along with some cream cheese (first cheese since the failed "i want a... -
You are not too sensitive and most definitely not alone here....I can't imagine anyone with Celiac Disease that hasn't had to deal with some level of scepticism from family, friends or co-workers. Others have said everything I would have so I'll just add a little story. A few years back I was working as an employee in an office situation after many years...

ARCHIVED Test Or Diet First?
GottaSki replied to Trill's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is tough when healthful foods cause us problems. Since you have removed grains..I'm assuming celiac antibody tests will not be accurate. The reason I asked if you were eating any gluten...for those of us with Celiac the reaction to small amounts of gluten can become worse after we have removed gluten. If there has been consistent gluten ingestion... -
ARCHIVED Questions To Ask
GottaSki replied to cmc811's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is good news....we must first take care of our families....then educate when an opportunity presents itself. Quite frankly, this pediatrician dismissed your very good attempt to provide correct celiac testing knowledge...there really is nothing left but to find a new doctor for your children. As for gene test...in our family it was helpful because... -

ARCHIVED Questions To Ask
GottaSki replied to cmc811's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Increased lymphocytes is Stage One of the Marsh Scale used in Celiac Disease...the problem being Stage One and Two are not specific to Celiac Disease. If the pathology report mentions increased crypt size or hyperplastic crypts -- the crypts are the spaces between villi -- in Stage Two these spaces become larger - even if villi atrophy (flattening) is... -
ARCHIVED Test Or Diet First?
GottaSki replied to Trill's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, gluten has no effect on DNA. The problem with gene tests is roughly 30% of population has the genes associated with Celiac Disease, while only an estimated 1% of population develops celiac. If he only ran gene tests - HLA tests -- not having consumed gluten is not an issue...but without celiac antibody tests you really don't have any real answers... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge Almost Unbearable
GottaSki replied to AKSheridan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like a great plan...also good that her CMP and Iron showed no deficiencies. It is possible that she has Celiac without much damage yet, which is a very good thing. Even if she is NCGS you will likely see great improvement with complete removal of gluten. Take care -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge Almost Unbearable
GottaSki replied to AKSheridan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Often the EMA is only run with a positive tTG-IgA, so I wouldn't worry about that one. All three of these are negative...regardless of what the ranges were -- usually we ask for you to post ranges to as they vary between labs. So it is a very good sampling....are you sure they didn't run a Total Serum IgA? Without that test the results can be misleading...
