  1. Congrats from me, too! There's nothing like hearing about sweet successes with gluten-free baking!!!
  2. After looking at the Heinz website, there's only one apple cider vinegar listed, which I use and have no problem with it.
  3. I've never heard of Heinz Apple Cider FLAVORED vinegar. What does the label say? Here's the website and I don't see anything about the flavored vinegar: Open Original Shared Link I think the main thing we have to watch for in vinegar is the word MALT, which is not gluten-free. Edit: I know some people do have problems with vinegar but it's...
  4. She probably meant "mock rye". I think I've seen some recipes for it but they are made from gluten-free ingredients and somehow emulate a rye flavor.
  5. I know we have some vegan and vegetarian members on the forum, who obviously don't eat meat. You might want to use the google button on the top right corner of your screen and search for vegetarian or vegan diets. I'm sure I've see some posts about it that may be helpful to you. Or for more personal suggestions, you might want to see a dietitian for...
  6. Since it "amuses" you, Howard....maybe it's best not to get drunk and order food from a restaurant? We have to accept responsibility and assume the consequences any time we eat out, even at well-intentioned places. That said, I don't think it's ever acceptable to criticize someone in public.
  7. Michael, how about a well-balanced diet to include meats and fish, as well as fruits and veggies? Is the only protein you're getting from the shakes? Maybe you're not eating enough??? (I'm not familiar with the Arnold Ehret diet.) If you're newly diagnosed, it's going to take time to repair all the damage that has been done by celiac. Hopefully others...
  8. There's not an "open burner" on the George Foreman grills. I would liken it to heating elements such as an electric frying pan but then I don't know if that would be allowed either.
  9. You might want to use the google search button on the top right hand corner of your screen and do a search for budget meals, cheap meals, etc. We've had a few threads on that recently which might give you some good ideas. If you have a crock pot, that will be useful, too, to make something very simple and easy.
  10. Baked haddock (maybe with a lemon-herb sauce), red potatoes and fresh green beans. I also have a nice ripe freshly-picked tomato that's just begging to be eaten.
  11. I think I'd just tell people she has celiac, which according to the biopsy she does even though the doctor disagrees. Is anyone really going to ask for proof?
  12. Even today the gene tests are not at all diagnostic. There are people with the genes who do not get celiac although there's certainly a predisposition which may never be triggered. There is so much more to learn.
  13. I might also add that a number of us here (myself included) are blood and biopsy confirmed as having celiac...yet we have no clue what genes we have.
  14. Your doctor is just plain wrong and is putting the gene tests above the results of the biopsy. Your daughter has celiac so definitely keep her gluten-free. Any possibility you can find another doctor? I certainly wouldn't trust this one. (I bolded the comments in the biopsy report that confirm celiac.)
  15. OMG! That sounds fantastic! I'll even offer to wash the dishes for you!!!
  16. Yaaay! I really didn't want to cook tonight anyway.
  17. Set an extra place!!! Glad there's no shoveling in July!!!
  18. Shouldn't you be about outta lamb by now? Need some help eating the rest of it?
  19. Going gluten-free doesn't necessarily have to be expensive...it's when we get into the specialty gluten-free prepared foods that gets expensive. Many of us had to give up dairy products for awhile after diagnosis due to lactose intolerance and I hear you...I craved dairy products something terrible. Giving up gluten was far easier than giving up dairy....
  20. Even though I had never heard of it before, I just googled it and found a recipe attributed to the Boy Scouts. Bet they have fun making it, too.
  21. While it may not be quite the same, can you just skip the nutmeg and add extra cinnamon?
  22. Well, that certainly does sound interesting!!! Uh, I don't think I'd ever make it though...I'd be eating turkey for a whole year, I'm sure.
  23. Maybe I've been living under a rock, but what is trash can turkey? Sounds "interesting".
  24. Poor baby! I'd miss some "just stuff", too. LOL You might want to use the google button on the top right hand corner of the page and search for snack ideas. We've had a few threads on that recently. General Mills also makes Fruit Roll-Ups that are gluten-free. How about ice cream (obviously you need to read the ingredient listing) or popsicles? Your...
  25. Yes! A number of Chex cereals are gluten-free (obviously not Wheat Chex) and Kelloggs has come out with gluten-free Rice Krispies made from brown rice. The boxes are clearly marked gluten-free. They're also easy to find in grocery stores as well as Wal-Mart.
