  1. You've already gotten some good advice from the previous posters. While the diet certainly has a learning curve, not all of us have found it to be that difficult. But by all means get tested before you go gluten-free. You might also want to check out these Open Original Shared Link from the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center. Lots of useful...
  2. While I honestly don't know the answer to your question, I would think most inexpensive birhday candles are made from paraffin wax and highly doubt they'd be scented. If you're concerned, could you just put the candles on one side of the cake and then use the other side for the decorative stuff? Or find some cute little candle holders? Of course, that might...
  3. They do send out emails with free recipes of the week and links to other articles of interest without subscribing to the magazine. A lot of us find those useful. If you're interested in checking out some info on their website, look here: Open Original Shared Link Some articles, of course, are limited to subscribers but others are available to everyone...
  4. I'd prefer leftovers, too, but don't always have them nor do I want to buy from the deli counter either. I like Open Original Shared Link and currently have the smoked turkey, which is prepackaged.
  5. Actually I've never looked at their privacy policy but I'm already on everybody and their brother's email and/or mailing list, who in turn then sell my name and address to even more companies so I don't worry about it. That said, Living Without is a reputable publication and they will not ask for your credit card number for this free download.
  6. Sometimes that's the best we can get from a manufacturer. I do use Benedryl occasionally without a problem.
  7. There have been a number of topics posted about dating...you might want to use the Google search button in the top right corner of your screen and type in dating...you'll come up with a lot of experiences others have gone through. Personally I think it would be easier to avoid food-related first dates.
  8. Do you have friends or family near you who might have a bit of extra freezer space so you could prepare a few meals in advance and have a place to store them until needed? Also if you have a crock pot, you could plan some simple easy meals, prep them in the morning and let them simmer away all day so dinner would be a minimal effort.
  9. Have you checked the lists at Open Original Shared Link?
  10. You're "crack"ing me up, Patti!
  11. I just got an email today from Living Without Magazine that the August/September issue is available as a Open Original Shared Link. Offer expires on Sept. 14 so if you're interested in taking a look at this magazine, this is your opportunity. At the moment it's the second item shown on the page. Personally I subscribed to it shortly after diagnosis and...
  12. There's more on Gevalia coffee Open Original Shared Link. Other brands are mentioned that are gluten-free.
  13. My GI took 6 biopsies and one of those was tested for H.pylori. At that time I had not even heard that 8 to 12 were recommended (I read that on here much later). Since the samples are sent to the lab for a pathologist to examine them, it took me much longer to get the test results but because I had already had the blood work done, I went gluten-free...
  14. You're very welcome...so continue to enjoy your "crack".
  15. A lot of us do use Mission Brand corn tortillas and they are made on dedicated lines. This from their FAQs: Are wheat flour tortillas produced in the same lines as corn products? No, our corn production lines are dedicated to corn products only. Wheat Flour tortillas are produced in dedicated lines. Open Original Shared Link
  16. That's very true, Ron, so thanks for mentioning that. Even though you might buy a book, we still have to be avid label readers...it becomes pretty automatic after awhile and definitely much easier.
  17. I don't think there's an "average anything" with celiac as everyone responds differently. Children probably start healing more rapidly than adults. The fact that he is eating more is definitely an encouraging sign. I'd say you're on the right track, Mom! Just give it time...
  18. Also, make sure you pick up a copy of the pathology report for your records when you meet again with the doctor to find out the results. I agree with others...many times damage is only visible upon examination with a microscope unless it's severe and can be seen with the naked eye.
  19. Welcome to the forum! While I never bought a gluten-free grocery shopping guide, Open Original Shared Link has one that seems to be popular. There are probably others available as well as phone apps.
  20. Since no one has responded to your question, you might want to use the google search button on the top right hand corner of your screen for Mellow Mushroom. There have been quite a few posts on this subject. (I don't have any Mellow Mushroom restaurants where I live so have no experience with them).
  21. Caramel color is safe here in the U.S. and Canada. Wheat must be disclosed and cannot be hidden in a product. If you're looking for vanilla, McCormick's vanilla is marked gluten-free on the label.
  22. Hunter has not been on the forum since April so it's doubtful he'll see your post. You might want to send him a PM or perhaps someone else in your area will respond. Welcome to the forum!
  23. I just looked at my local Food Lion ad. This week Holly Farms bone-in chicken breasts are on sale for 99 cents a lb. They have fresh chicken leg quarters advertised for 79 cents a lb. in a 10-lb. bag (way too much chicken for me to buy though but great for a large family or someone with a freezer). They also have 73% lean ground beef advertised for ...
  24. I just buy regular rice and don't worry about it (I don't buy bulk anything). Mission brand corn tortillas are made on dedicated lines so a lot of us use them. For quinoa Ancient Harvest needs no pre-rinsing and is marked gluten-free on the box.
  25. Seasonings are different than single ingredient herbs and spices. Personally I use the McCormick Lemon & Herb Seasoning and I like their Italian Herb Seasoning Grinder and their Peppercorn Medley Grinder. No problem with any of these. But mainly I have single ingredient herbs and spices. Since we are so individual, what works for me may not work...
