ARCHIVED Cat Allergies....a Question.
Celiac Mindwarp replied to mommy2krj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sound like having an inhaler around would be sensible, if you have had one prescribed but don't have one at present (not sure if I read that right). My son has an anaphalactic nut allergy, and it sets his asthma off too - so if we need to use antihistamines or epipen (so for no epipen, thank goodness, but carry 2 everywhere just in case) we also give... -
ARCHIVED Mama Knows Best
Celiac Mindwarp replied to Rowena's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am forever losing posts when my phone decides to eat them for me or something How is the little one now? Any more settled? I think mine started getting teeth not long after 3 months which was a bit tricky. Those first few months are hard work, I never knew how little sleep I could get through the day on. (Mind you, we broke quite a lot of things, most... -
ARCHIVED What Do I Do Next? Help!
Celiac Mindwarp replied to karencuba16's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi dotsdots Welcome to the forum . I hope you find some answers here, remember you can always start your own thread if not to ask questions not covered in blood testing. To both of you - if you are easting gluten now, a blood test as outlined above could be very helpful. If it should come back negative, think about the possiblity of Non Celiac Gluten...- 7 replies

ARCHIVED What Do You Think
Celiac Mindwarp replied to beadlet33's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi there and welcome to the forum If you are wondering if he might have celiac disease, it is worth you knowing that to be tested he will need to be eating gluten for blood tests, and possibly an endoscopy, depending how your doctor tends to diagnose. Your story does sound familiar to other children mentioned on the forum, constipation can be a problem... -
ARCHIVED How Helpful Are Dietitians?
Celiac Mindwarp replied to nvsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In the UK I saw a dietitian. She was not very knowledgeable about celiac and gluten-free, but was very helpful to help me go through an elimination diet, and then to assess the foods I ended up eating and checking the nutritional value, and to keep up my weight loss. I found I wasn't getting enough calcium, and she was able to tell me to take it with vitamin... -
ARCHIVED Alone In My Struggles
Celiac Mindwarp replied to PamelaB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry you are having a tough time. I found a number of other intolerances surfaced once I went gluten-free. I am NCGI, but still need to do gluten-free for life. I did an elimination diet and kept a food diary to work out the intolerances. I am wondering why your husband is unhappy for you to be altering your diet, if it keeps you healthier. Is... -

ARCHIVED Why Can't I Lose Weight?
Celiac Mindwarp replied to ButterflyChaser's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I found that when I significantly dropped my carbs I had to up my good fats so I didn't feel hungry and snack too much. I use avocados, olives, and oils of avocado, olive and coconut. Sweet potatoes are good too. I don't deal with the extra sugar which is sometimes in low fat foods, and that gives me cravings too. I ended up mostly paleo, lost 42 lbs... -

ARCHIVED Ok...so How Would You Proceed?
Celiac Mindwarp replied to mommy2krj's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is all confusing isn't it? I have NCGI and negative genes, and I can tell you that my life has been transformed going gluten-free. The symptoms can be just as severe, and as recognition of the condition is so new, there isn't as much research as for celiac yet. I kept a record of symptoms before and after gluten-free, which helped my doctor diagnose... -
ARCHIVED So What's The Quickest Way To Figure Out Your Other Intolerances?
Celiac Mindwarp replied to Renegade's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not everyone has other intolerances, but some do. If you find that you are still having symptoms when you have been gluten-free a while, it is worth doing some further investigations. Some people have a temporary intolerance to dairy because of damage to the villi, but find that after 6 months or so can reintroduce once the damage has healed. I found... -

ARCHIVED Think It's Time To Abandon The Gluten Challenge
Celiac Mindwarp replied to Poppi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tough call. I Iasted 3 weeks before I became too ill to continue ans my doctor told me to stop. How long have you been told to do? Do you have a blood test and endoscopy scheduled? My take in the end was to last as long as I could, then get tested immediately. The positive for me of having tried was that I 100% knew I bad a problem with gluten and... -

ARCHIVED Holy Molybdenum Batman. Eating Out gluten-free Is Hard
Celiac Mindwarp replied to rene83's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hey there rene I am nearly 12 months in to gluten-free now, and still find myself standing in the supermarket saying (to no one in particular) things like 'potato chips? Why do you need gluten to make potato chips?? I haven't eaten out much, as I have found it a mine field when I CAN read the ingredients, let alone when I have to depend on staff to... -
ARCHIVED A Relaxing Drink Suggestion
Celiac Mindwarp replied to Renaye's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I love lavender almost as much as I love giraffes. Wow, that is serious. I haven't reintroduced honey yet, but a good set local one is VERY appealing. I told Mr Mindwarp that teaball would come in handy, and my lavender is amazing at the moment. Cheers -
ARCHIVED A Relaxing Drink Suggestion
Celiac Mindwarp replied to Renaye's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Addy, how do you do the lavender? I like water with a slice of lemon. I had terrible reflux, but most of it went when I went gluten-free AND cut out most sugar including fruit for a few months. 10 months in I can now eat fruit most days. Chamomile can be soothing, and mint, especially if you just throw in a few fresh leaves to hot water. Good... -

Scallion sounds right, 6 to 8 inches, skinny and green with a small white bulb, great in stir fry. Gamon steak, peas, egg, new potatoes, mushrooms. At home tonight, but last few days have been dinner on the beach and late nights for kids. Trying for an early night, but it is mighty warm here now.... -

Celiac Mindwarp replied to Mad Engineer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi there I found b12 good too, and when I made sure I wasn't getting cross contamination and cleaned up my diet, to mostly paleo had great improvements. Brian fog is now one of my first symptoms when glutened, along with a kind of instant feeling of hopelessness which last about 3 days. Might be worth checking for any sneaky cc happening. Glad... -
