Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Diet Blogs

Emotions

Today is a really bad day for the exhaustion, even with the liquid vitamins. And now I am in a very deep emotional slump. I have been raining tears continuely for a long time today. Today and too many other days this past year, I wonder why I was so happy that they diagnosed celiac disease. Another two weeks and I would have died. I wish that I had. I really don't mind the diet and it really is not that hard once you get the hang of it. But, my quality of life really sucks. When we moved

What Did I Do Wrong?

I've been doing really well the last few weeks. I have been eating basically just salads, and gluten-free chocolate, and homemade gluten-free salsa/chips the last few weeks, and today, about 1/2 way thru eating lunch, started to feel like I needed to go--really bad. Got diarrhea again, and had to leave work. Didn't even make it home before getting sick again. I have no idea what I would have eaten that would have made me sick this time. I've been doing really well. The only thing I can think of

Vitamin Testing Results

I just found out that all my vitamin levels are in the normal range. I was really hoping that something was wrong. It has been over a year and a half since my diagnosis and I have been gluten-free since the day of the test for Celiac. Yes, I have had accidents and twice I delibertly ate gluten dinners. That was several months back for the dinners. I am so tired of the exhaustion and now I find out that I am still recovering. When do I fully recover? The doctors' don't think I will as too

Help I Need Gf Wedding Cake

Hey Everyone! I'm a 26 year old female with Celiac Disease. I was diagnosed @ 15 months old. I don't know anything other than living wheat and gluten free. I thought I knew everything there was possibly to know about CS until it was time to plan my wedding. I've always been different according to everyone else because of the foods I do eat and because of the foods I can't. Snack time in daycare or elementary school was always hard. I was not invited to social activities such as birthday parties

Hemorrhoids

Yep, that's what I'm talking about today. No! I don't have 'em!We have a long time friend that has celiac disease...was diagnosed over 10 yrs. ago after a mental breakdown. I think I wrote about him in one of my earlier entries. Anyway, he has been having trouble with his prostate, thought it was just the regular old man's problem (he's 70 something). Well, it turns out it's not his prostate after all. It's a great big hemorrhoid that is pressing on his prostate.I wanted to post this so th

Labor Day

We're going over to some friends' house to play 42 tonight (for those who don't know what that is, it's a domino game). We play lots of rounds of 42 and eat, eat, eat. The hostess called today to ask if I could eat Hershey's chocolate; said she was going to make something gluten-free for me. She's really sweet, is a diabetic herself so she knows what it's like to watch her diet. There's usually lots of good stuff that I can eat anyway, though, and I had already made a chocolate cake to take

Rash, Itching, Welts

I have spent the last seven days with a rash that itches unbelievable. When I can't stand the itching anymore, I then scratch like my life depends on well I can scratch LOL. Then I get the welts where I have scratched. Because this happened two days after I started this high protein, vitamin drink, I thought maybe the drink caused it and so I quit the drink. I know that the drink is gluten-free as I talked to someone in their research and development department. I don't know if my vitamins

Feeling Much Better

Went to the doctor and got antibiotics for the kidney infection and I'm feeling like a new person. I also got my prenatal vitamins filled when I got the antibiotics, and started taking them at the same time. I don't know if that had anything to do with the fact that I'm feeling so much better. But I've got a lot more energy, and less sleepy than I am, even when I'm not sick, so I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I'm on the vitamins.

Celiac, C'est Moi

Here goes:This blog is a long time in the coming for me. I have "belly-ached" about my belly aches all of my life and had few interested listeners. I would have started a blog long ago, but I was just too damn angry. I'm still angry, but I have a better handle on it at the moment. So:After being sick for most of my life, I was diagnosed as a celiac at age 35. I'm now 37, and I am changed. No longer do I wonder about the mysterious, enduring ache in my gut that shadowed me my whole life.

Settlement

WooHoo! They settled! Three down, five to go. We'll probably have to go ahead and go to court with at least one of the defendant's, but that's to be expected.

Negotiations, Mediations

I spent the better part of the day in a legal mediation. Boring. Man, I'm glad I don't have to do that for a living We're involved in a patent litigation in which my husband is the inventor and the company who owns the patent has sued about 8-9 big companies for infringement. Because I'm a major stockholder, they wanted me to attend the mediation today to see if we could settle before trial, which is in October. It's not that I have anything of value to say or contribute to the mediation, t

Feel Like I've Been Hit By A Truck

I feel like I've been hit by a truck today. I was up all night last night with kidney spasms. I think I got maybe 2 hours of sleep. I get these spasms usually every few months, and usually coincides with a kidney infection. I've been having them sporadically the last week or so, but nothing I couldn't deal with, until last night. I wanted to die. It felt like someone was trying to squeeze my kidney and yank it out of me. And the spasms hit out of the blue, no warning, and sometimes they aren't

Very Pleased.

I have to say that I am very happy with the college I just started at today. I explained to my one teacher my situation. So even though you are supposed to wait until after class (or before) to use a washroom, I can go as much as I need to without saying anything (remember, I am a big diahrrea sufferer). The best part: They are allowed me to keep my gluten-free lunches and suppers in the fridge in the staff room. I can honestly say that surprises me. She asked if I have any other allergies, a

today is going pretty well. I had my yearly mammogram this morning :(I hate those....I had to take a nap this afternoon but made a good dinner of ham, mashed potatoes and creamed corn. I was in a starchy comfort mood :)I am feeling a lot better eating gluten free. The doctor gave me a week to see if it would help my RA. I had to go stricter with my starches and meats along with the gluten-free. It has helped. Even though I'm stiff, I'm better.I have been craving some wheat foods but haven't

Gluttened Twice & More Blood Tests

Three weeks ago I ate two cookies with gluten, thinking since they were Midol, they were gluten free. No wonder they were so good. LOL. Later discovered the mistake before I ate anymore. Four days later I accidently got cross contaminated. Needless to say I have not felt good since then. Start to feel better and then I am sick again. Yesterday I went to the lab and had nine vials of blood drawn to check out all of the vitamins. Came home and slept for almost three hours. I just want the

I've been sooooo busy! Son is working in one town 70 miles away and playing football in a different town 65 miles away and we're in school already. I've not had much time for internet or anything else lately.Gluten free is going really well. I've been surprised at how easy it is once I got into it. I've shed some of my prednisone weight which is nice. The RA is doing better I believe. The first two weeks after going off prednisone were horrible. RA factor more than doubled and boy, could

Chebe Chebe Bobebe Fo Fana Fana Fo Febe

Hey, I finally rec'd my Chebe bread order. Last night I used the original mix to make hot dog buns. They weren't like any bun I've every had, but they were good. Since the instructions said to flatten them out to about 1/2 inch, I thought they might rise. But no, they were still 1/2 inch thick when they finished cooking. They were crusty on the outside and kind of chewy on the inside. I sliced them in half lengthwise so we could put our hot dogs and bratwurst inside them. I ended up just

Some Background Info And Posts To The Yahoo Group

not planning on making this a continuous blog but using this as a description of my condition.gastroparesis is an awful paralysis of the internal smooth muscles of the stomach. A normal persons stomach will automatically contract at regular intervals helping to churn and digest food. When the nerve impulses to perform this involuntary activity slow down or even cease then severe digestive distress will result. Sometimes the cause is known eg. stomach surgery accidentally severs the vagus nerve.

Another concern I had with my cockup with the bandage was with the larvae sitting in the gauze potentially drying out and dying while I futzed around. Seems things are ok. I've been having tingles under the stretch bandage I used to secure placement. I'll know for sure in a couple of days when I see the entry wounds.
