Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Diet Blogs

My First Post--last July.

Hello everyone!I'm a 21- year-old female who has exhibited many of the symptoms of celiac disease for the past five months. I have had an upper GI, countless blood tests (one of which caused me to pass out), a gallbladder untrasound, an X-Ray, and a stool card test (I never got the results on that one!). All of those tests were normal except for the final bloodwork I had done in June showing gluten antibodies. I have an EGD on Aug. 4th, and I'm not looking forward to being sedated while I swallo

The College Story.

After taking the tour in the spring of '02, I headed to Thiel to begin my freshman year that August (the 18th, to be precise). Cross Country camp starts early--I'll be there on the 21st this year (if I don't have to go to the country fair with the radio station for my internship). I was terrified, even though the campus is small, about numerous college awareness factors for young, single, vulnerable females. I remember waiting for my physical and literally gripping the wall. Initially (in high

A Story Of Me.

I posted my diagnosis story a year ago in "Pre-Diagnosis and Testing," but I figured that I'd start with my life before I turned the gene on.Apparently, someone (whether Upstairs or otherwise) wanted me to have difficult challenges most of my life. I realize that I'm not the only one, but I thought that I'd share a few things.Sometime in 1983, before I was born, and until I was eight years old (1991), my father was a manager at the Allentown, Pa. UPS. One of his co-workers had a severe case of t

Hmm..

Oh man I am not feeling good at all today. Thats what I hate about Celiac, that I dont know if whats wrong is the flu or cold or celiac. But its slowly been building up (the sickness) the last 4 days and today seems to be the worst. But thats not going to stop me from anything. If I get everyone else sick thats ok. But there is Centennial and class reunion in town starting today and I wont let a flu or whatever ruin it for me. For once, I have a chance to have some fun. Not many chances like tha

Todays Lab Tests

This morning I had my blood work done after fasting for eight hours. They will also check my white and red cells. Then I went to the place where I will have the CT scan of my abdomen and pulvis (sp) on Monday. Picked up the Barium junk I have to drink before the test and asked if it was gluten free. They checked and still were not sure. So, I am hoping it is gluten-free. If it is not, I suppose there is nothing I can do about that. I don't feel well this morning and the stomach pains I st

Again Grr..

My head is pounding I have such a headache. When you have to deal with hearing yelling all day and all night it gets to your head and then yeah, give a big fat headache and everytime you hear more yelling it gets worse. Even my closest friends are discussing among their family how much I need out of there. And I agree..

Gluten Reactions

I'm usually a stickler about not cheating on the diet even though I never had any really terrible reactions. But a couple of months ago I went to a tea that a friend had for the ladies at church. Of course, tea sandwiches were served. Lots of different kinds of yummy things on little tiny pieces of bread. I love that kind of stuff. I didn't want to NOT eat anything and all the ladies said, "Oh you can just scrape the bread off and eat the fillings." I knew that the gluten leeched into the

Nyc - No Postcards Wish You Were Here

After reading Lindylynns blog about eating in NYC, I wish we had retired there. Of course I hate the humidity, but the eating out sounds great. Coulter has talked about the same things in the dining section. NYC also has wonderful plays to go to. I love the size of the theaters - small. I am also like Mosaics' blog, after you tell about the illness what do you write about. So, I will do what she did and tell you a little about me.I have been married to a wonderful man (really he is) for 42

I definitely fall into the category of being a celiac who hated being celiac and very much wanted that beer and sandwich. In fact, I just had a couple of regular bread ham sandwiches. Sadly no beer though. Trying to cut down.

I can relate though to those celiacs who said that they would never touch gluten again, hookworms or no. Those memories of past horrible gluten exposures are hard to get over. After my first hookworm inoculation I waited three months before trying a gluten exposure because I was too damn scared.
