How About A Reward For Avoiding Getting Glutened!

Recommended Posts

Your returning good health is a reward. :)

But I know that's not what you mean. How about choosing a really tasty gluten-free treat ? Something like Udi's double chocolate muffins. They are SOOOOO GOOOOOD! You wouldn't want to eat them all the time because they are high in calories and low in nutrition, but as an occasional treat to reward yourself, hey, why not?

Yeah, Udis products do taste good, though after my initial "buy anything to avoid feeling deprived" phase in the first few months, and then the "buy really extravagant raw ingredients for my own cooking" phase in the next few, I think I've finally settled into a more regular pattern that is low on sweets and less expensive.

I suppose I could do new kitchen gadgets/pans/utensils instead of chips. Next up is a really good cutting board. The bamboo ones aren't so good for the environment if they just fall apart within a year.

GottaSki - You rock!!!

I always thought that not feeling like chit for days was a pretty damn good reward. Maybe I'm not as sensitive to this issue as I thought.

That's cuz yer a boy.

:D   well, there are "rewards" and there are "rewards", little brother.

some of us like "applause" when we are newbies and still "learning" and some of us

like tangible thingers......like maybe I dunno, ... a shiny bracelet, sorta thingy.....just sayin'  :D

Most days that is the perfect reward...then there are the times we need more -- Cheer! Gadgets! or Sparkly/Shiny things.....

then there are those days where we need to have a pity party and stomp our feet...only advice there is Duck and Cover ;)

So how long do I have to be gluten-free to not be considered a newbie?

I'm close to the nine month mark, though only about four months since my last major accidental glutening (learning the hard way that restaurant's gluten-free menus are not gluten-free), and about two since a minute contamination incident (I actually watched them wash everything they used to prepare my salad!!!)

Hmmm...no official promotion timeline that I am aware of....you certainly sound a few clicks past Newbie to me.

If we are talking rewards...I'm thinking an appropriate chart might be:

one week

one month

three months

six months

one year

each year thereafter....

oops and nine months of course ;)

guess that means it is time for more than one gadget!

yes, maybe you are not exactly a "newb"  after all. :) my bad for using the phrase" newbie" in this case.

I only meant it with mother- hennish affection.

Sometimes, I honestly still think of myself as being a newbie when I learn something new about this disease process.

in any case, I think you should most def reward yourself in any way you like.!!

I mark every milestone and every symptom-resolution with a celebration. Why not?. ;)

I'm kind of liking the reward idea. I'm thinking go the potty training calender route. Get a pack of those teacher stars and start popping them on the calender every day. Then go kitchen shopping at the end of every month for a mini-gadget. Every so often, we can all set our own timelines, get something super cool. ^_^

Nine months? What kind of reward are you looking for?

And no, I didn't take you seriously. In fact, I think rewarding oneself is a great idea.

If the wifey makes the week without poisoning herself, maybe I'll get her something shiny.

Daddy wants a new deep fryer. WOOT WOOT!

Deep Fryer sounds good...purrfect for that three year badge you all have going on over there.

Hmmm...after the reminder of the great Dolphin adventure I think I had better come up with something better than the spiralizer I treated myself to this year...oh wow next one will be my 5th SillyBday...

it's like I'm writing this  :) did that buy anything phase already, and now I'm in the extravagant raw phase.  I went to Whole Foods the other week and bought fruits and veggies I've never seen like a purple potato and quince just because.  I'm looking forward to that less expensive phase
