Newbie Needing Advice For Hurricane Season

Greetings,

While I am new here, I am also new to having Celiac's and I do have a lot of questions but they will come in time as well. However after recently being dx'd at the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, I am needing help getting things ready incase we get hit this year in Louisiana. To complicate things a little more for myself I am also a vegan and planning a gluten free and vegan friendly  food stash for incase of a hurricane feels overwhelming so any suggestions is highly  appreciated.

Thank you,

Serielda

Welcome to the forum!  I sent you a private message with a few names of sites that have stuff just like this.  One of them has been banned from this site and would have been removed.

If you are a newbie I would read the newbie 101 thread and read up about cross contamination.  You could also search vegan on here because I have read that a few on here are strictly vegan.

I hope you have luck finding what you need.

Im not too helpful other than listing the obvious things. I'd keep cans of fruit, veggies, and beans. You can stock up different nuts or make your own trail mix and store it. You can possibly find some gluten-free crackers and protein bars that are vegan, also. Those are the things I'll go for if a storm hits the gulf.

I think Go Picnic has a few vegan options, too.

If it makes you feel better, this is my first hurricane season, too...just moved to Florida last fall, so I am working on my

own "disaster go-to bag"...as well as the cat's.lol

Actually, the whole message would not have been removed, just so you know. You could list your ideas here so other vegans could read it too.

It would just say something like this:

(website removed banned from forum) but the content of your message would remain.

Sometimes when I link to a ma zon, it says that.message...so I type it like that...a ma zon. Just a suggestion.  ;)

(they are banned BTW because they spammed the forum.)

I'm pretty new to this as well, I have discovered Larabars, the ones without chocolate chips are vegan according to their website, I like to get these when they are on sale for $1 each and keep them in. Some have more sugar then others, but they are great in an emergency!

Go picnic has some that are vegan & gluten-free.  You can get them lots of places -even Target & Walmart.  Also, look at what they have in them to give you ideas of things you could get.

Whatever you get, you will want to remember to rotate them out and eat them before they go bad.  I speak from experience here!

They make little squeeze packs of all kinds of deliciousness.  And the dark chocolate PB cups look to be vegan.

Shelf stable jars of hummus are a good option. Canned beans, canned vegan/gluten-free chili, dried fruits, nuts, etc. are all good choices as well.

Bread has about 8 g of protein per 100 g, so a piece of bread weighing 125 mg contains 10 mg of gluten. Bread has a density of about 0.25 g/ml, so 0.5 ml of bread contains 10 mg of gluten - i.e. a bread ball 1 cm in diameter. I think it would be unlikely to ingest this much from throwing bread out for the birds.

Sciatica came to mind for me as well. You might want to get some imaging done on your C-spine.

Maybe this is sciatica? When mine acts up a little, I switch my wallet from one back pocket to the other. this isn't a substitute for more serious medical help, but for me it's a bandaid.

OK so I just learned something completely new about this for the first time in years, that is REALLY WEIRD. One of my nerves that likes to "burn" or whatever is doing it every time I bow my head! I mean it is completely repeatable. Literally every time. Once my head goes beyond a certain angle *boom*. Nerve goes mental (lower right leg pain). What the hell. I've never seen a direct trigger such as this before that I can recall. The pain was the usual type I get from this problem - I suspect somehow the head movement was interrupting descending inhibition processes, causing the pain to leak through somehow.

I've only made this a couple of times but it's really easy and I love the flavor. If you can, use all of the ingredients to get the full palette of flavors. I use fresh or canned tomatoes and I don't worry about peeling them. If you don't have harissa, there are replacement recipes online. If you don't have the greens, I suggest adding a little chopped baby spinach or celery leaves to add a dash of green color to this red dish. Best eaten in first couple days because flavor tends to fade. Leftovers are still good, but not as vibrant. Ingredients 2 medium eggplants, partially peeled and cut into cubes (original recipe says 1 in, but I prefer 1/2 to 3/4 in) 2 tomatoes, peeled and crushed 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped or minced 1 tablespoon fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons spicy harissa (I use Mina brand) 1 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon paprika ½ teaspoon black pepper 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice 1 tablespoon tomato paste (optional) Salt to taste Preparation     • Heat olive oil in skillet or pot over medium heat. Add all ingredients and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cover and cook on low heat for an additional 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.       • Serve warm or cold as a side or with bread for dipping. Enjoy! Original recipe is here, if you want to see photos: mina.co/blogs/recipes/zaalouk-moroccan-eggplant-salad
