Test Results

My adult child was just diagnosed with Celiac. I know I have issues when digesting gluten (bloating, pain) but had not been tested. Last week I decided to and got my results  from the lab online but have not talked with the dr.

My immunoglobin A is 127 and my TTG AB IGA is <2.

Any thoughts?

Don't decide to go gluten free until you have discussed the results with your doctor. He may want to have an endoscopy/biopsy done and if you have already been eating gluten free it would likely invalidate the results because of the healing having already taken place.

I am not gluten free at this time. Just trying to find out if these numbers are in the normal range. I was eating when the nlood work was done.

It's impossible to tell if there are no reference numbers to compare it to. Labs don't all use the same scales.

It is hard to tell without the ranges or units.

The IgA is probably total IgA.  Total IgA is tested to ensure that the celiac specific IgA test is valid.  Are the units mg/dL?  That would be total IgA and if so yours is in the normal range.

The TTG AB IGA being <2 is highly likely to be in the normal range, just because of the way it is stated with the “less than” sign (<).  Again we’d need the lab ranges to be absolutely sure.

TTG AB IgA is not the only test for celiac however.  There is a TTG AB IgG test, and DGP AB IgA and IgG tests.  Do you know what test was positive for your adult child?
