If there is a specialist you woould need a refferal.

My family doctor is an aggreable man but not up on info. Another doctor in the clinic gave the reply I should start with adding a little wheat and gradually increase until can I tolerate it. I had told him I was gluten intolerant through elimination because I had not be diagnosed. What can you say when they only allow a few minutes each visit.

I've two fantastic doctors in Southern Ontario - a GI, and an Internist. I hate doctors and these are two of the only ones I've loved. Let me know if you are in this area; I can give you their info, but you will need a referrel. I also see a fabulous neuro if you also need that.

I am fairly new here and would like some help. I live in Northern Ontario and my family physician is trying to find a specialist who can see me. I am aware of the requirement of a referral and my doctor will do that. I wanted to take a proactive approach and assist in the search for a good doctor. I do not want to travel to southern Ontario, just to see a GI who does not know that much about celiac disease. I just had both endoscopies due to the pain I was having. They came out with a clean review and the doctor suggested I may not have celiac disease because it was diagnosed over 30 years ago.

Would the original poster or the previous poster be willing to share the names of the specialists you have seen and have been happy with?

I also would like to ask ... Is there a significant difference between a GI and an internist? I am assuming there obviously is, but which would it be better to see? Would one be more knowledgeable in the area of celiac disease? If I am having a lot of pain, mouth sores, joint pain, muscle pain, chronic fatigue, depression etc. and need some help, which doctor would be better to see?

Could I just see both?

I am from S. Ontario and was sent to see a specialist who refused to do th biopsey, how ever I did go off the gluten free diet and was positive of what I was dealing with. I had a rash every where except my face, I have I believe Celiac Herpiaformia. I wanted absolute proof until some one reminded me that travel ins. as well as life ins. will be refused me if I proseed and get documented proof. If you go on the strict diet for as little as maybe 2 weeks but preferably a month, you should be able to tell. This desease is one that developes serious problems and you are much better off staying off gluten and keeping your health. I have suffered needlessly when all I had to do was quit eating gluten for a while and then start again, I ate 3 slices of wheat bread toast and boy did I pay for it.

Now day there is great resourses on the internet= recipies packaged supplies ect.

Thanks for your reply. That is unfortunate that your doctor refused to help in the way you requested. I have been on the diet for over a month and am still having some trouble. I have already had the biopsy and know that I have celiac disease. I called around and was able to get in touch with a well recommended doctor, in the London area. The reason I was looking for a doctor in southern Ontario is due to the fact that the GI I seen a few months ago had suggested that I had grown out of the disease. So, he obviously does not know that much about celiac disease.

Hello Lorka150! I would love to hear about a doctor .... My doctor has not helped me at all. I live in the Mississauga area, and would drive up to 2 hours to see someone who knows what I'm going through, and how to help me. The neurologist that I saw for the neuropathy had ordered a whack of autoimmune tests and the Celiac came up. He did not believe it. However, the dietician was absolutely sure of what it was.       There is a 10 year old post in this forum on Edy's and Dreyer's ice cream. The information is somewhat outdated and the thread is closed to further comment, so here is a new one. Edy's And Dreyer's Grand Vanilla Bean Ice Cream - 1.5 Quart is labeled "Gluten Free". This is a different answer than years gone by. I don't know the answer for any other flavor at this moment. On 1 May, 2026, Edy's website says: "As a general rule, the gluten in Edy's and Dreyer's® frozen dessert products is present only in the added bakery products, such as cookies, cake or brownies. We always label the eight major food allergens on our package by their common name. We recommend to always check the label for the most current information before purchasing and/or consuming a product. The exception to this rule is our Slow Churned French Silk frozen dairy dessert, which contains gluten in the natural flavors." https://www.icecream.com/us/en/brands/edys-and-dreyers/faq It seems that Edy's and Dreyer's are more celiac-friendly than they were 10 years ago. Once I found enough information to make today's buying decision, I stopped researching.

      My dad had an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.  Fortunately, it was discovered during an exam.  The doctor could feel my dad's heart beating in his stomach/abdomen.  The aneurysm burst when the doctor first touched it in surgery.  Since he was already hooked up to the bypass machine, my dad survived ten more years.  Close call!       You have an odd story there. To me, the mechanical trigger suggests a mechanical problem and lower leg pain is a classic sciatica symptom. The fact that the clear mechanical linkage is no longer there does not take away from the fact that it was - maybe something shifted and the simple alignment is no longer there. There's also a good chance I am wrong and it's something else entirely. @Scott Adams's mention of shingles is interesting. It seems possible but unlikely to me, but who knows. However, I am writing here to reinforce the idea of getting the shingles vaccine. Ask anyone who has ever had shingles and they will bend your ear telling you how bad it is. I watched my wife go through it and it scared the bejeebers out of me. Even if you had the chicken pox vaccine, you really want to get the shingles vaccine.

      Oddly this effect has gone now, just happened yesterday evening, the nerve pain is now back to its usual "unpredictable" random self again - but that was the only time I ever had some mechanical trigger for it, don't know why! There's no (or wasn't) actual pain in my neck - it was inside the leg, but when I looked down, now though, the leg pain just comes and goes randomly as before again.
