Seafood Barge, Southold Ny (long Island N Fork)

Recommended Posts

Had a lovely meal at The Seafood Barge in Southold NY on Saturday (Zagat 21/17/19, $46) and our waiter, Rita, was gluten-free!

I had specials (thoughtfully printed out for the day, there were 2 each starters & main courses) - local steamers, then local scallops with a potato/parsnip puree, spinach and a lemon-walnut-butter sauce (neither required any changes to be gluten-free). Spouse had gluten-containing items. We skipped dessert.

One plus of this restaurant, which is right on Peconic Bay, is that it is open continuously on Saturdays from noon to 9pm and Sundays noon to 8pm, meaning you can have a lovely early dinner after a round of North Fork wine tasting - and still get home not too late (most of the 'fine dining' options are dinner only around there).

gluten-free (except unintentionally) from 7 Dec 2007

3 gluten-free cousins and counting (1 gold standard, 1 pos blood/no endo, 1 self/dietary diagnosed)

suspect mother was celiac (also, cousin suspects my mother's twin is celiac)

Feb 08 testing 'normal range' for gluten antibodies, IBD and food allergies

Staying off gluten - dietary reaction is compelling for me!

"Hi, I'm the gluten-free diner at your table."
