  1. Celiac.com 10/23/2019 - One approach to celiac disease that's been getting attention lately is the effort to develop ways to prevent the adverse immune reaction that is triggered by gluten that leads to gut damage in untreated celiacs...
  2. Celiac.com 10/22/2019 - Many people use DNA testing services, like 23andMe, to check on their ancestry. However, such sites can also be helpful in revealing genetic risk for certain diseases. Take the case of Carol Mayes, a West...
  3. The study provides good methodology and solid scientific method. Not sure where you're getting this "16 washings" stuff, but that's not what the science says. Yes, we do need more studies, and larger ones. And no, I wouldn't recommend sharing a toaster, but I know many celiacs who do not use dedicated utensils, and simply wash them. They are apparently vindicated...
  4. The study seems aimed at helping people quantify, and thus manage, actual real world risk, and helping to dispel unnecessary fears. For example, no need to fear properly washed utensils. Knowledge is power.
  5. Saying 20ppm is "meaningless" doesn't make it so. That standard was established after rigorous consultation with leading scientists. The standard is not only a consensus scientific standard, it's down from the 200 ppm standard that was used for many years, especially in Europe. Also, the standard has everything to do with protecting people with celiac disease...
  6. Actually, this study used rigorous scientific methodology, and makes its full results public without cost, unlike the site you mentioned. As for the takeaways, many folks have long believed they needed separate eating utensils because they thought that gluten would not rinse off, but this study clearly shows that gluten easily washes off flatware with standard...

  8. You're not going to eat the bun in the picture. Of course you'll want a gluten-free bun, and a reliable gluten-free kitchen, if you have celiac disease. The point of the article is just that the Impossible Burger is, in fact, gluten-free. You can make it at home, if you don't trust restaurants.
  9. Celiac.com 10/19/2019 - Want a tasty, nutritious fall soup that's ridiculously easy to make, and will be ready when you get home from work? This one pot chicken soup with wild rice is sure to do the trick. Ingredients: 1...
  10. Thanks to everyone who reminded us about Progresso soups. We've updated the list to include more than two dozen gluten-free soups by Progresso.
  11. Celiac.com 10/17/2019 - One of the most common general questions about celiac disease that we get on our forum is the question of whether fluttering or twitching in the abdomen is related to celiac disease. As Victoria6012 wrote: ...
  12. Celiac.com 10/16/2019 - For many decades, celiac disease was regarded as a rare condition with clear symptoms. However, as celiac disease research has progressed, once common assumptions about celiac disease have fallen away. More people...
  13. Celiac.com 10/15/2019 - The Good Place star Kristen Bell got some bad news earlier this year when her doctor revealed that she has a genetic marker for celiac disease. She had already started an elimination diet to clear gluten from her...
  14. Celiac.com 10/14/2019 - One of the big debates among people with celiac disease concerns how vigilant celiacs need to be to make sure they avoid gluten. What does science say about gluten contamination in three common scenarios? How careful...
  15. Celiac.com 10/12/2019 - Okay, so technically, peak fresh corn season is over, but there's no reason you can't still enjoy a tasty, delicious corn soup. This easy-breezy recipe comes to us from one of our favorite cooks, Chef John, at one...
