  1. Hi Ksee That article is very interesting (and long! I need to re read as I skimmed. ) It was written in 1999, and testing has developed since then, with more sensitive tests. However, I have yet to find celiac tests which do not require eating gluten for a period beforehand. Gene testing does not require it, but the result is not a yes or no, but...
  2. Rice, potatoes eggs? I cook these in advance and heat then in the microwave, or stir fry. I cook other stuff from fresh every day, and usually take 10 to 12 minutes. The only gluten-free foods I buy are rice pasta and rice spaghetti. Everything else is regular. Just takes time to get your head round it. Good luck, keep asking questions
  3. I am in too! I am NCGI (well, until testing catches up with me...) and so very clearly are my Mum, her 2 sisters and my grandma. Along with a host of other intolerances each. My Mum has given up wheat, cheese, chocolate among other things at various times, but when I told her about gluten-free and what it has done for me, she said she started to lose other...
  4. Have fun, wave if you fly over the UK
  5. I know I wouldn't be able to function on rice alone for long. Do yo have any safe foods you could have too? I have done very well having a palm sized piece of protein, surrounded by fresh veggies, and good fats, with a little carbs. Good luck working it out
  6. Haha I have 7 years brain fog induced paper filing to deal with. Always the first thing to go when the fog sets in....
  7. Chicken stir fry, rice and veg. I have been starving all day, I ate too many cashews. My garden is a mess. If only we could do all the stuff we do when selling a house to the one we live in now. Mind you, me have visitors booked for 3 days next month, so have to get the spare room sorted by then...
  8. I get fed up with stupid comments 'it must be awful' (no, after over 20 years feeling awful I feel great) or 'so what DO you eat?' (err, healthy stuff, meat, fish, eggs, veg fruit) 'how do you go out?' (take my own food. It usually looks better than everyone else's). I am sorry to hear you are being treated like this. Some people think it is ok to make...
  9. Just to note this is an old thread, and the original posters may not be about. You are welcome to start a new one
  10. Travel is possible, but does require planning. Lots of us here enjoy travel. At the moment, I take most things with me. Let us know how you get on at your meeting, and we can help you fill any gaps. This forum is a great start for finding people who understand. There is always chat going on in what's for dinner tonight chat and ticke me elbow in GAB...
  11. Can you tell us a bit more so we can try and help? What reasons did you doctor give for going gluten free? Do you have celiac disease? Would you like to try totally gluten-free? we can answer questions to help out, and there is lots of information on the forum. Is it just your feet, or do you have other symptoms? One foot complaint I had, and several...
  12. Sudden unexplained weight loss sounds like it needs investigation. Three things which spring to mind are thyroid, celiac and diabetes. I am sure others will have suggestions.
  13. Oh my word, that is a lifetimes worth of ideas, thank you Diana, muffins sound sooo good thanks
  14. We have the best selection of shirts here! Stick around and we can help you find yours
  15. Luckily, we tested the brakes then drank tea. As a splendid bonus, the place we had tea turns out to be a very nice seafood restaurant, with a celiac savvy chef/owner. None of the sauces are made with gluten, he gets cross contamination AND the fryer is a dedicated one just for chips (fries). I haven't eaten out since last September, but I think I...
  16. Hang in there. I lasted 3 weeks, and was very unwell by the end of my challenge. I know it is horrible to think you might go through this and not get a diagnosis, but even if that does happen, there may be a silver lining (though you might not think so right now...). Your reaction to eating gluten is evidence to doctors. I wrote down my symptoms and my...
  17. Have a fantastic trip Look forward to new recipes when you get back... Mw
  18. Lamb potato carrot spinach. Going out for a cup of tea and to test my new brakes. It's the high life here today
  19. Thanks Irish I'll have to see if I can inspire Mr Mindwarp, our resident baker, to have an experiment
  20. Woohoo, go Superman, go Totally delighted for you Loey, have a wonderful weekend Mw x
  21. So, I just spent a fortune on some coconut flour -what can I do with it? Is it any good for thickening? How long will it last, and do I need to freeze it once opened? Any ideas appreciated, thank you!
  22. Hmmm 8.30pm and still not sure what is for dinner. Fed kids earlier, but lost my enthusiasm for cooking this week. Happy otherwise though
  23. Hello and welcome to the board For blood tests to work most accurately you need to be eating gluten regularly still. I am sure someone else will pop in with the full list to request to have the best chance of getting accurate results. Apart from the biopsy, the options are genetic testing, which tests if you havethe genes most commonly associated...
  24. Thank you both, that's reassuring it should firm up. I was keen to lose more quickly, but my dietician said I am doing about right. If it minimizes sag I will keep it steady. I am exercising, but want to leave it a bit longer before toning so I don't tone over too much fat! Mw
  25. Yep, I major on protein too, at each meal, with plenty of veggies and not too much carbs. I like to have one starchy veg like sweet potato, parsnip, rutabaga etc. That reduces my need for snacks somewhat. I eat nuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, pine nuts. I do ok with dried fruit, but I know not everyone can. It is better for me if I have fruits with nuts...
