Who's Up For A Poopy Question?

Ok....I've been gluten free for about 10 days. Had a colonoscopy on the 18th. Then last Thursday [the 27th] I ended up with a high fever and severe backache. I had this same problem last yr following gallbladder surgery....got an infection that nearly killed me.

I began taking some antibiotics I had here [my dr said to try it] ...then the next day when he checked on me, he said I had the "flu"......HUH???!!!!!

I kept taking the abx and now the past two days I've had very weird stools. They are many different colors and what's worrying me is that I've seen at least two different times a section of "green" in the stool.

What could that be????? I've never seen it before. I wanted to make sure it's NOT from eating an avocado yesterday.....Couldn't be, right?????

I don't want to make a fool of myself by calling the dr tomorrow. I haven't had any appreciable fever or back pain since beginning the antibiotics.

Thanks for listening. Hope someone has a clue here!!

As long as your stools are normal otherwise than a little green, it's normal. Poop ranges from browns to greens - really just watch for black (blood, unless you've had a lot of pepto!) or white/mucusy.

Make sure your antibiotics are gluten-free, also.

Thanks....What's weird is that it's green in ONE place...not the entire stool. Is zithromax gluten free????

it's probably just from something you ate. i sometimes i have camoflagued poop, too. :)

i just checked my medication list which is from march 2006 and it says it is gluten-free.

My kids get green poop when they drink grape koolaid. I figure it's the blue-toned dye in the koolaid mixed with the yellowish brown of the poop.

God. We really DO talk about everything here don't we?

If you ate an avocado recently, then yes, you can expect green poop. Also if you eat spinach or romaine lettuce. Im sorry you're having such a hard time!

Omg, I thought we were the only ones to get that!! Grape soda, grape koolaid, even real grape juice -green poop!!! I get orange from sweet potatoes, so makes sense that avocado would make it green, especially if you are not absorbing too well yet. (Oh, the wonderful discussions we have here :P ) Take care.

Thanks for posting this. I hadn't come across the Alchemist before. Great site!

Psyllium can't sit for more than a minute in the water or it is like drinking sludge. Swallowed fairly soon means it's more like an flavorless undermixed protein smoothie. Chlorophyll ( or two tbsp) really helps the taste, makes it minty. Taking Psyllium and Chlorophyll separately rather than together at first helps determine if there's intolerance to either. Also starting the Psyllium in small doses, starting with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon to tolerate the fiber change.

BuddhaBar, I came across this thread while searching online for celiac insomnia (having also scared myself stupid by finding out about fatal insomnia) and it did bring me some piece of mind as it so closely matches my own experience. I know this thread is old now, I hope you're doing well, and thanks for posting your experience.

That's great news, @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour.  And you might find that if you do have asthma, keeping your reflux under control may help, if my experience is anything to go by.
