Wow, I reordered my samples on Monday, and it left Portland Or today, which is where I am but in a suburb, so maybe it will be here today or tomorrow. This was USPS so pretty good...especially if it arrives tomorrow! I am hopeful!

YAY! Hope you get it sooner than later :D

She wont join cause she dont have internet, she keeps saying she is going to buy an laptop and then something else comes up and she doesnt, i think i might just have to buy her one just to join us lol.

Well in the meantime she can be an honorary member

Today's review:

Blush: Okay folks, the burning answers to some of those questions I saw posted overnight, lol. I am wearing a lavendar sweater today, so I decided to try Anytime blush. Um, waaayyyy tooooo light for me, lol. It's a pretty color so I'll try this again with a different foundation and if that doesn't work, I'll try it as an eye color, and if that doesn't work, I'll try it as a lip gloss, lol. I want this color somehow. :P

Thanks for your review Donna, always entertaining as well as informative!

I'm glad you like Best Friends.

Those lighter colors would probably make better eye colors for you.

I opened all the eyeshadows and applied each one up and down my left arm. By the time I was done trying all 10 colors, I looked like I had been in a horrifying car wreck or had some strange version of flesh eating bacteria. :

 Colleen

Far from expert on the subject, lol, but highlighters....

The book I'm reading says to highlight any area that you want to bring forward. Lighter colors come forward and darker colors recede.

The other places (which I HAVEN'T tried yet) are just above the cheekbones, down the center of the nose (this would be especially good for me since I have a big nose, and especially if I contour the sides of my nose with a darker color, lol), and in the center of the chin. There's also a couple of places on the forhead, but I don't really want to highlight that areacovered by bangs anyway.

Good info Donna.

What is the name of this book again? It's the Kevin Aucoin (sp?) one right.

I didn't realize there were so many places to highlight, I only thought it was the brow bone....shows how much I know about makeup

Our noses? Who knew!

I just got a compliment!! :P Someone said I looked really nice today, then asked if I was wearing makeup. :P

;);)

For the lighter blushes - Soft Touch and Anytime - you guys might be surprised by how nice they are when swiped over other colors. They're nice for brightening and lightening things up.

Good tip!

Hehe! I actually left the house without any makeup on today. It was only to drop off a truck for repair and I didn't have to see anyone, but I felt really awkward, lol!

Wow wow wow wow wow!!!:wub::wub:

I got my order today, and I am absolutely hooked now!

I ripped open the box and ran right into the bathroom to start playing lol.

My best friend came over and LOVED the way it looked, so I showed her all my goodies. She uses BM, and now she's switching! LOL

Shannon, YAY! Glad to hear you like everything and thanks for your review.

Bonus points for you for converting your best friend

Mango,

My sister has little orphan annie eyes if she doesn't put eyeliner on. I *think* she actually was considering tatooing eyeliner on at one point, lol. Good thing we're not related. :P Someday I'll explain how THAT all works, lol.

YIKES! I remember when this first started being done, in the 90s I believe. A friend of mine's mom had it done.

Then a few years later I was going to a salon for a monthly facial and they tried to talk me into doing it, or at least dying my lashes.

I'm glad I didn't do it.

It's funny you mention that. I recently saw an ad for a "medical spa" (whatever the heck that is) that offers semi-permanent eyelash dying for $20. I actually considered it  I won't do it though...a quick google search told me it has been know to cause blindness

Double YIKES!! So very gald I didn't do it

So I told a friend of mine yesterday that I am the founder of an online monster make-up cult.

Her response: "That is rad."

:lol::lol:

Have you converted her yet to EM???

Well, my friend is trying to talk me into going to Las Vegas next weekend, lol. I can't go, but I miss our regularly schedule Vegas trips, lol.

I'm glad I didn't do it.

Yeah, even back then, whilst in the middle of my who-cares-what-I-do-to-myself phase, I thought it was a bad idea, lol.

I've also always thought I'd like a little tatoo, but when I was much younger a co-worker had one done on her hip, and she made the mistake of showing it to me right after it was done...um, that kind of cemented in my mind that I would not ever actually get one, lol.

dlp252 Apprentice

More on Robert Jones...his book is the one that said I would be "warm"...I didn't believe him, but the golden foundation sure looked good on me. I LOVE the makeovers in his book.

I'm still waiting for my make-up! I don't like DHL! LOL! It's with the carrier in Van Nuys, which is pretty close to me, but I told my mom I don't think they'll make it here today. :( I sure hope they do! After being at the Dr's having crap shoved down my throat, I need a pick-me-up! EM would be PERFECT! LOL!

That is so nice Paula! Cloud 9 is a great place to be! Good for you.

I tried Diary again today - love, love, love that color. It's such a nice sparkly light lavendar. Also put on Cookie Sheet as a blush and lip color. It does make a great lip color!

Oh noooooooo.....I love lavender eye shadows...and now I have another one I'll have to consider putting in my cart ahhh. Maybe I should get another eye shadow kit. 20 is a perfect amount of eyeshadows to own.

So what's Cookie Sheet like? Is it pink? Does it have orange in it? This one seems pretty popular among some of our neighboring cults (ya know...the ones I stealthily spy on). I've really been wanting to try that color.

Maybe my order is just not meant to be...after it was cancelled due to a hitch in the ordering (computer lost the order info), I reordered. It should have arrived today but there was a mistake in the address and it is being sent back.

Maybe there will be a really really good special coming up!!!

Anyone else have a real dry looking face? I felt like my wrinkle and under eye darkness wre more noticeable!?

I use Oil of Olay as a base.

Maybe I used to much powder or have the wrong colors. I have the blue veins under my wrists so, I thought the natural beige matte would work and it did most of the week but by late in the p.m. I looked like an old hag!

My coloring is like Julie.

Any help, would be appreciated.

Cookie Sheet is a shade or two darker than Chit Chat (I think you have that one) and has a hint of either darker pink or purple and it's sparkly.

Oh wow. I'm sorry your having so many problems getting your order. :( I really hope the next special is extra good and you have no more problems with EM.

Anyone else have a real dry looking face? I felt like my wrinkle and under eye darkness wre more noticeable!?

I use Oil of Olay as a base.

I have really funky skin under my eyes and I have to mix the concealer with moisturizer or my skin will look wrinkly. Just putting it on wet isn't enough in my case.

If your skin on the rest of your face is coming out looking more wrinkly with the foundation, chances are it's a bit too dark for you. Maybe you can try a lighter shade. The perfect shade won't cause that, but one too light will make you look chalky. It's not easy to find your perfect match, but when you do you will really like it.

Hope that helps, good luck!

New avatar...got tired of the brown, tired of the red and now I'm wintery white. :P:lol: I think the foundation is a bit too light (it's Golden Fair which is lighter than my fav Golden Light, but it doesn't look horrible (I think, lol).

Hi Sarah. I've been trying a few things...the moisturizer thing seems to work the best. I still get a tiny bit of "wrinkling" there but it's not as bad.

dlp252 Apprentice

Here's the info on the deep-set eyes from the book Makeup Makeovers by Robert Jones:

The goal with the deep-set eyes is to bring them out and make them more noticeable.

A dark eyelid does not work with this eye shape. You want to highlight deep-set eyes as much as possible to help bring them out.

A dark crease is also unnecessary for this eye shape as nature has provided its own so no need to emphasize.

No need to highlight the browbone since it is already prominent

If you wear eyeliner, keep it close to the lash line and very thin.

Tips: never darken your lid because it can close in your eyes and make them appear smaller and for drama, use a brighter (not necessarily a darker) color of shadow

Application (there are diagrams in the book to demonstrate each of the following steps):

Highlight shade: Apply to the eyelid and in the crease

Midtone shade: Bring the color up above the crease and sweep it across the browbone to help visually "push" the browbone away from us

Contour shade: Apply to the outer corner of the upper lash line, then up onto the corner of the browbone to help "push" the area away, or recede. Sweep the countour shade underneath the lower las line for definition.

I have to say that the makeovers in the book are wonderful...the differences in before and after are very dramatic, but in a natural way.

dlp252 Apprentice

Sheesh, I'm posty today

So today I'm trying the Golden Fair foundation. A little light, but eye color and blush helped a bit. I think I found my holy grail of foundation in the Golden Light.

For blush I'm wearing Jump Rope. Love this color...I'm not even sure how I'd describe it, lol. Very nice though. I tried Mango's suggestion of putting a tiny amount of Soft Touch over it. Oh and by-the-way, after I'd washed my face and was ready for bed, I saw the lonely little SOft Touch container sitting there on my toilet tank...so decided to just swipe some across my cheek to see what it looked like without two layers of WAYYY too light blush underneath it. I just stuck my finger in the minerals and smudged it on my face. To my surprise, it looked really nice. I think if I have my foundation on and do the same thing it will be perfect.

Eyes:

First put on Baby Bath...a little too light, but I put it on all over as a base

Then On the PHone. Now this one I LOVE! So basically, I sort of covered the Baby Bath with this one, lol.

Then close to the lashes I put on Wild Flowers. Love this too...it's not quite dark enough to be a liner, but that's how I'm using it today (and in my avatar)...it looks a little smokey without being a harsh line.

So, yay, On The Phone and Wild Flowers are keepers!! :)

I actually had to clear out a few of the eye colors that I don't wear often to make room for all this stuff, lol. I need a bigger case. :P I know exactly which one I want too. Someone posted a picture of it on a thread at EM.

Hi Sarah, sorry you are having some issues, but they all sound very fixable :)

What category foundation do you have? I couldn't find anything called Natural Beige, I see a few "Beiges"....I'll go back and look again.

I went with the Cool category, they mention this is for veins that look bluish on the underside of the arm and I also have a lot of pink/red to my complexion. Is this the case for you too? I got the first three lightest colors, fair, fair medium, and multi-tasking neutral (all in intensive formulation).

Fair was much too light, as I looked too chalky. Fair Medium was the perfect match.

Matte formulation might be too drying for your skin. You might want to try Semi-matte, or custom blend some original glo into your matte.

The other tips the ladies gave are also worth a try, mixing some foundation into your moisturizer for example. As well as trying one shade lighter to see if this works better with the fine lines.

It could be a possibility you are using too much of the minerals. Start out using a very small amount, like one tap into the lid worth, swirl your brush in it, and tap off the excess, then really buff it in your skin all over until you have a very thin layer of overall coverage. Then repeat if necessary until you achieve your desired coverage.

Are you using a concealer on your dark undereye circles? That might make a difference with coverage there.

Also what kind of brush are you using to apply your foundation?

Hope this helps!!

Green12 Enthusiast

Thank you!

I MISSPOKE! IT WAS BIRTHDAY CAKE not Baby Bath I used that was too light, lol. SHEESH!!!! Gotta get my colors right before posting! Birthday Cake is too light, but not bad with the other colors blended over it. Will try Baby Bath tomorrow...trying to figure out if it will look good with Sunset Voyage, lol. They look like they're in a different color family, but it might work anyway...

Sort of wish I WASN'T the age I claim to be, but I surely am, lol. It must be because I ACT like a child...must even out the age thing.

The book gives examples of how to determine if ones eyes are wide set, close set, etc. It doesn't on that page, but I think it says somewhere else in the book about that...I'll try to find it. I have several eye things going on...deep set, droopy and hooded.

I have the same problem....I've been exfoliating and moisturizing, and I still look very wrinkly. I think next I'll try mixing the moisturizer in with the concealer. Good luck!

I tried Jump Rope today, too! I was surprised at what it looked like on, very mauvy, but so nice!

I got two more convertees today! LOL I had my Remicade infusion today, and one of the patients' mothers (he's a teenager) noticed my makeup and asked about it, said she didn't want to be rude, but my skin looked so different from the last time she saw me. Then I was talking to my GI's mom, who is the Remicade nurse, and they have a lot of celiacs in their family....I mentioned EM, and she said she's used BM, so when I told her it was so much cheaper, she wanted to come home and order right away!

I think I've found a nice combination with the Sunlight concealer, the Fair foundation in OG, and the Finishing Dust. On my eyes, I used the foundation as a base, Starry Eyed, then a little Cherry Fizz over top....they really go nicely together. Again, I used Smokey Eyeliner. I used Jump Rope blush, mauvy, light and pretty, and Cherry Fizz gloss. Again, I was thrilled!

Have you tried using one level lighter than the color of foundation you are using now?? Just to rule out the lines being caused by using too dark of foundation.

Yay on the 2 convertees  Excellent work!

Sounds like you are having fun experimenting with everything :D

But HDL is considered to be the "good" cholesterol, right?
    • plumbago
Since some time between 2010 and 2014, my HDL-C has been going up and you might even say elevated. The last time I could find in my records that my HDL was normal was in 2014 when it was 67. Last week, it was 101, and it’s been 88 and above since about 2015. A significant life event happened in 2010 when I was diagnosed with Celiac disease and in May of that year began a gluten free diet. An informal perusal of a previously posted topic on HDL on this forum shows that a lot of members responding had high normal or high levels of HDL, so it doesn’t seem to be that unusual. But because my HDL numbers have been so high for so long, I am now officially concerned enough that I will probably reach out to a cardiologist who specializes in lipids. I would like to know if I should have a genetic test, as a specific genetic mutation can be one reason for high HDL numbers. I will also ask if he/she thinks a cardiac work up including a coronary artery calcium score should be considered. I think by now most of us are done with the ridiculous good and bad cholesterol labels; the amount of what we don’t know about HDL is quite large. For me my questions include is it a matter of production or an inability to clear HDL, and are the high levels having an effect on my vasculature (or a result of a less than optimal vasculature)? My last TSH level was normal, so it's likely not a thyroid issue. I also take B12 regularly. I’ve read that niacin can cause HDL levels to go up, but B12 is not niacin, and I could find no definitive link between robust B12 supplementation and abnormally high HDL levels. Any input is appreciated! Plumbago

@Mynx, how long have you been gluten-free? I ask because many newly diagnosed celiacs react to many things, and often think their reactions are caused by gluten, when in fact, they are really caused by a combination of a sensitive gut due to damage, as well as additional food intolerance/leaky gut issues to other foods which may be temporary until their villi heal.

Many major brands of distilled vinegar in the USA, including Heinz white vinegar, are typically made from corn. In the United States, corn is a common and cost-effective raw material used in the production of distilled white vinegar. The process involves fermenting the sugars derived from corn into alcohol, which is then further fermented into acetic acid to produce vinegar. Distillation follows, which purifies the liquid and removes impurities, including any residual proteins or allergens. While the source of the vinegar (e.g., corn) is not always explicitly stated on the label, corn-derived vinegar is widely used in the food industry due to its neutral flavor and affordability. For individuals with gluten intolerance or celiac disease, distilled vinegar made from corn is generally considered safe, as the distillation process effectively removes gluten proteins. However, if you have concerns about cross-contamination or specific sensitivities, it’s always a good idea to contact the manufacturer directly to confirm the sourcing and production practices. Heinz, for example, has stated that their distilled white vinegar is gluten-free and safe for those with celiac disease, but verifying this information can provide additional peace of mind. The belief that distilled vinegar is gluten-free is rooted in the scientific understanding that gluten proteins, which are large and complex molecules, are generally too big to pass through the distillation process. Distillation involves heating a liquid to create vapor, which is then condensed back into a liquid form, leaving behind larger molecules like gluten proteins. However, the concern about cross-contamination arises from the possibility that gluten-containing ingredients may have been present in the liquid prior to distillation. While the distillation process itself is highly effective at removing gluten, the equipment used in production could potentially introduce trace amounts of gluten if not thoroughly cleaned between batches. For most individuals with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, distilled vinegar is considered safe because the gluten content, if any, is typically below the threshold that would trigger a reaction. However, for those with extreme gluten intolerance or celiac disease, even trace amounts can cause adverse effects. This is why some individuals, like yourself, may choose to avoid commercially produced distilled vinegar and opt for alternatives like apple cider vinegar, which can be verified as gluten-free. The meticulous process of researching ingredients and preparing homemade products, such as ketchup, is indeed challenging but crucial for maintaining health and avoiding gluten exposure. It’s important to note that regulatory standards for gluten-free labeling vary by region, and in many places, products labeled "gluten-free" must contain less than 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten, which is considered safe for the vast majority of people with celiac disease. Nonetheless, individual sensitivity levels can vary, and your approach highlights the importance of personalized dietary management for those with severe gluten intolerance.

I have been diagnosed with Microscopic Colitis (LC) for quite a few years, so I have been gluten-free and DF.  I would like to get tested for Celiac Disease because of the possibility of cross contamination and colon cancer.  And if you were hospitalized and didn't have a celiac diagnosis you could not get gluten-free food, I don't know if that is true or not.  Also because there is chance of colon cancer so I want to know if I have Celiac Disease and need to be on very restrictive diet.  The only testing I did was a sigmoid scope and Enter Lab but no gene testing.  I know I can go back to eating gluten for a few months, but I would worry you would have to stay home for the few months while getting gluten.  What other options do I have?  Should I do the gene testing?  Maybe through Entero Lab?  Any other tests?  How important is it to have Celiac diagnosed? Thank you! Barb
