I have no clue how to lower sodium. With everything else I am trying to watch now sodium!?

Dxed with high bp today. It's getting to where I can hardly have my dental work because my bp is too high.

I feel betrayed! Everything I love to eat is making me sick one way or another. This is the pits!

OUCH! That really bites! My only suggestion is to try to stay away from processed foods as much as you can and try to use alternative flavorings like garlic and onion and maybe flavored or infused oils.

Most sticks and small rocks as well as grasshoppers are gluten-free and sodium free! Man this sucks.

You will have to be really careful of the pre made stuff you buy. There are gluten-free and sodium free broths, canned tomatoes, etc. You will have to look for them. Eating plain meats, veggies, fruits, rice, etc will work. Season with herbs & pepper. I have to reduce sodium some because it effects Hub's BP. Some peoples BP does not react to sodium. Are you on meds for it?

I agree with the other two posters. I also suggest drinking water--- half your body weigh . This was told to me by a naturepath years ago..I now drink about a gallon of water a day just because my body needs it. No, I'm not that heavy !!!WhenI first started trying to drink water I would throw-up but after I got going with five swallows every half hour I was able to enjoy water. Not many drink enough water daily.

And if your feeling thirsty you are already dehyrated..Water will flush sodium from your system...it is a great cleasner...

I have blood pressure issues, too. I found that cutting way back on sugar and starchy carbs helped a lot.

Don't forget to also get plenty of water and regular exercise (see if you can get in a couple of short walks a day).

There are folks that have died from drinking too much water because of that.

Water is good and a gallon a day is a good amount but 1/2 someones body weight could make them very ill. That much water would greatly upset the electrolyte balance. There are folks that have died from drinking too much water because of that.

I think that is supposed to be "half your body wt in kilos = ounces of water"??

I wondered, too. I'll speculate, too. I think it is that half your body weight is water so you need to drink more.

A gallon weighs about 7 lbs.

yes, its half your body weight in oz. I weigh 175 (lost 10lbs WOO WOO) so that would be about 85oz of water a day.

Which I don't do but... I do drink a LOT of organic decaf suntea.

Yes I am on meds for it now. I am just annoyed at having one more thing. I learned my family history is inundated with high bloodpressure.

It's hypertensive but it could be worse. At the dentist it was 154/106 but typically it is more like 133/97 or so. So I am on a low dose.

I have backed way off of anything carby in my *experiment* with lowcarb. I have not had a cramp or bout of D in 3 days. So I guess I found one of my culprits. I did make a pumpkin spice cake the other night. I had a small piece after having home made gluten-free pizza and I was fine. I made the crust half the thickness as before and ate less.

So for now, the lowcarb/sugar experiment seems to be paying off. MY DO was also in favor of the gluten-free diet.

Basically I am back to raw fruits,veggies (mostly root) plain meats, salads with only small amts of carbs and nearly no processed foods. It's making a difference! My problem is now.. I LOVE raw sea salt and I put it on everything!

watch the processed foods, try switching to sea salt.

sandi, I switched to sea salt about 6 months ago. I refuse to go back, I LOVE the stuff. Is it better for your body than idonized table salt? I switched because I love the taste.

Sorry , yes it's ounces !!!!!! I too, use all sea salt.... & I agree too much water can cause major issues. After I got used or my body got used to water & alot of it, I craved water. I voided constantly & when I had my labs done , they came back I needed sodium......... so now I still drink alot becaUSE i CRAVE IT BUT i NOW ALSO

sorry, yes it is water in ounces !!!!! I also use sea salt for everything. Since my body has become used to water I drink lots of it & I do now crave water.. When I had my labs done after a year it showed I had very little sodium in my system, so now I still drink but I do cook with a bit of salt& also sparingly sprinkle on one piece of food a day which seems to keep me in the right level. I also drink aklaline water which we make with a filter & I have noticed a big difference since we made that filter purchase....

Also, are you getting enough potassium? Potassium can help lower blood pressure. (We always have bananas in the house! :) )

      @Aretaeus Cappadocia and @Russ H thank you both for your helpful advice and information. I haven't seen a GI in years. They never helped me aside from my inital diagnosis. All other help has come from my own research, which is why I came here. I will be even more careful in the future.

      @nancydrewandtheceliacclue, you are welcome. After looking at this thread again, I would like to suggest that some of the other comments from @Russ H are worth following up on. The bird-bread may or may not be contributing to what you are experiencing, but it seems unlikely to be the whole story. If you have access to decent healthcare, I would write down your experiences and questions in outline form and bring this to your Dr. I suggest writing it down so you don't get distracted from telling the Dr everything you want to say while you have their attention.

      @Russ H, I partly agree and partly disagree with you. After looking at it again, I would say that the slick graphic I posted overestimates the risk. Your math is solid, although I find estimates of gluten in white bread at 10-12% rather than the 8% you use. Somewhat contradicting what I wrote before, I agree with you that it would be difficult to ingest 10 mg from flinging bread.  However, I would still suggest that @nancydrewandtheceliacclue take precautions against exposure in this activity. I'm not an expert, I could easily be wrong, but if someone is experiencing symptoms and has a known exposure route, it's possible that they are susceptible to less than 10 mg / day, or it is possible that there is/are other undetected sources of exposure that together with this one are causing problems. At any rate, I would want to eliminate any exposure until symptoms are under control before I started testing the safety of potentially risky activities.       @Aretaeus Cappadocia thank you for your reply and the link, that is very helpful to get a visual of just how small of an amount can cause a reaction. I know I am not consuming gluten or coming into contact with gluten from any other source. I will stop touching/tossing bread outside! My diet has not changed, and I do not have reactions to the things I am currently eating, which are few in number. My auto immune reaction just seems so severe. The abdominal pain is extreme. It takes a lot out of me. I guess I will be this way for the rest of my life if I ever happen to come into contact with gluten? I appreciate the help.

      Thankyou I did find out the Infectious disease is the route to go rather than dermatologist. I did reach out to two major hospitals and currently waiting on approval for one of them in Infectious Diseases to call me. I also did have implants ( I didn't know and sense not properly in my medical. Neither did surgeon)in 2006 and there was a leak 2023 during the same time I was dealing with covid, digestive issues, eyes and skin.Considering I " should  be fine" not consuming gluten/wheat, taking vitamins for sibo and STILL feeling terrible.It has to be parasites. I also take individual eye drops prescribed, could there be an issue there? Anyways my pcp thinks I need therapy because again they don't acknowledge my digestive issues because in my records it shows im fine, hintz the reason I had to go back to bay area hospital:(  I thought skin issues maybe sibo related but I feel and have seen and seriously trying not to think about it because it's disgusting.
