Barb et Al, What medicines are you taking? I had a bad reaction to Metoprolol a beta blocker and continued to gain weight no matter what I did! After researching it.....I converted to Carvedilol aka Coreg and slowly began loosing weight for over a year.... It was a steady decline.....it went on to loose over 50+ pounds and have kept it...

Celiac and Gastroparesis
Posterboy replied to lhu7's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lhu7, Gastroparesis can happen when you get too low in Thiamine. See this article about a "Rare Presentation of Thiamine Deficiency as Gastrointestinal Syndrome"....if (thiamine deficiency) happens mainly as GI symptoms it is called Gastrointestinal Beri Beri.... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4175961/ Benfotiamine is a fat... -
Fatigued and sleeping
Posterboy replied to Lotttieelis's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lottie, I have been busy with other things in life.......I thought Knitty kitty might answer this question but I see she hasn't yet so I will en devour too. Both Magnesium (glycinate or Citrate) and Thiamine as Benfotiamine has been shown to be helpful for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.......you might have Anemia as well......which can lead to low energy... -
AuntieAutoimmune, You asked about India....since you are an Auntie I will assume you are from India as well? Are you from Northern India by chance. Some of the symptom's you have mentioned can also be confused for Pellagra or more properly Pellagra Sine Pellagra.... Unless you have per fuse skin issues it is probably only the Psuedo Pellagra...

Scott et Al, Research can't be done on this topic.....until it is brought to peoples attention that there is a need to follow this line of thinking. Despite research showing various factors including Gut Biome can trigger or affect a Celiac's reaction to gluten.....the denial of an epigenetic trigger doesn't do us any favors IMO. All I am saying...

Scott and Ravenwoodglass et Al, I receive an "official" Celiac diagnosis based on elevated antibodies.....with a return to normal after 30 days on a gluten free diet.....it was however not "Biopsy" confirmed.... And I think we are arguing over semantics here.....by the same "Genetic standards" If I remember correctly.....Ravenwoodglass doesn't have...

Scott, (Et al to Others that might read this) The Problem with a Celiac diagnosis (in general), IMHO is that other things can also trigger the same conditions attributed to Only Celiac Disease......and it simply not true that only gluten triggers Villi blunting etc. In addition to PPIs......NSAIDs have also been know to trigger Villi blunting? Are...

Link between GERD and Celiac?
Posterboy replied to AnnaA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
AnnaA, When you say "You previously got your (GERD) under control" do you mean you started an Acid reducer like a PPI or H2 Blocker? If so yes, these conditions can be linked.....long term use of PPIs has been linked to a subsequent Celiac and/or NCGS diagnosis. Here is the article as it appeared on Celiac.com entitled "Do Proton Pump Inhibitors... -
Laulau et Al, Let me first say RMJ has given you a good resource. RMJ thanks for that link.....I have quoted that site myself and it is helpful. I hope it was just a temporary drop in their CO2 levels......but I would be afraid it might be of a more chronic nature.... As far as I understand it......unless if the C02 levels come back low...
-
Scott, I have a two or three ideas about what could be happening with/to you. I don't remember if you said or not.....if you did I didn't pick up on it..... I know Ennis_Tx was a long term user of PPIs......do you or did you at one time use PPI's? Taking PPI's have been shown to be a CAUSAL trigger (due to the low stomach acid they trigger...

MrsTurner et Al, You can't fix an Iron deficiency Anemia without finding out what the underlying cause(s) is? Taking Iron by itself won't by itself help you......you need to find what other Co-Factors you are low in to help your Iron Absorption. Two or three Common things is take your 1) Iron with Vitamin C and 2) treat your commonly co-morbid...

Wheatwacked Et Al, I was going to start a thread about this article I came across recently ( and might still do since it really is a fascinating article/interview of Dr. Alessio Fasano....but haven't had the chance yet entitled "Alessio Fasano, MD: How a Cholera Researcher Became an Expert on Autoimmune Disease" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc...

To All, I came across this Old Live Journal blog a few years ago doing research on Zonulin and/or Niacin to see if I could find a "Metabolic link" to Pellagra in Celiac disease and I never had a good opportunity or chance to use it......but thought it was research worth discussing so I thought I would start a thread about it to see what others thought...

Histamine Intolerance after Gluten Challenge
Posterboy replied to BushbabyLou's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Rogol72, I think you said it well.......Blue Sky and Knitty Kitty have also given you good advice. The Niacin form will trigger the release of Histamine stored in your skin.....usually about 3 days worth. If you have skin issues......the Niacin form will take care of the "itchy and scratchy" sensations you are having.... See this article...- 37 replies

Twixton, Start taking you a B-Complex with meals and these symptom's should start improving. You have developed Pseudo Pellagra aka Pellagra Sine Pellagra or Pellagra without extensive skin issues. The mouth sores, and geographic tongue and leaky lips can be a sign of a Riboflavin aka Vitamin B-2 Deficiency. Here is a nice article about it...

AliB, I am not surprised! Many people feel better when they get the right nutrients in their body.....it can heal itself.....but it needs the right nutrients to do so! Here is a Posterboy blog post you might enjoy reading. People can't win a "Two Front" war.....and why appropriate and proper supplementation is key often to those still suffering...

Bloating and Other Issues
Posterboy replied to Ginger38's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ginger38, Intense bloating can be from Low Stomach acid. Fats delay stomach emptying and CARBS ferment during this delaying of stomach emptying leading to intense bloating often. Try eating either Fats or CARBS in a meal and it should help......not both in the same meal. You can try the baking soda test to see how low your stomach acid... -
Can celiac suddenly 'occur'?
Posterboy replied to sezza61's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Scp et Al, Trents has given you some good advice. Scp it sounds like you have an ulcer....... Mastic Gum can help it. Often heartburn is triggered by a stress(er) 6 months before it happens? Have you had a lot stressful moments in the last couple of years you can identify with as you look back on your life over that time. Here is...- 23 replies

Histamine Intolerance after Gluten Challenge
Posterboy replied to BushbabyLou's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Bushbaby Lou, It would be more correct to say you have Pellagra Sine Pellagra......which is essentially Pellagra without extensive Skin involvement. Metabolically speaking your Kyneurine Pathway is impaired leading to your Sjorgen's Syndrome and/or Lupus diagnosis. They have similar symptom's and very similar metabolic origins. Scott and Blue Sky Et Al, Here is the research that shows where Virus (IE Environment) can trigger a Celiac diagnosis in Science Magazine I thought once......now it is Science.org Entitled "Reovirus infection triggers inflammatory responses to dietary antigens and development of celiac disease" https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.aah...

Histamine Intolerance after Gluten Challenge
Posterboy replied to BushbabyLou's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
BushBabyLou, What do you mean you don't have any of those symptom's.......isn't this a quote by you saying you have Sjogrens Syndrome? Or did I misunderstand what you wrote? It is called Co-Morbidity......Both can (and do) occur in the same person..... What I quoted is where both were occuring the same person and one will mimic the other....- 37 replies

T-Burd, Good to hear! Thanks for the Positive Update! With it being so quickly I would put the money on the Vitamin. Your antibodies to gluten don't go down that quick. I wrote a blog post that might also help you. Here is a nice article from the Dermatology Advisor that explains how PMLE and Pellagra can be confused for one another...
