Gluten Free Food Fair

Just a heads up to anyone in Utah that this Saturday, the 15th is the Gluten Free Food Fair in Orem. It was a blast last year and this year is bigger and at a new venue, so should be worth a trip to Utah county even if you aren't directly from the area. We had vendors from all over the state and even some from out of state last year.

It is at the Hamptom Inn in Orem from 10 to 3. I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday than relaxing and trying new things and chatting with people who "get it."

I'm not sure how many Utahns we have here, but I hope maybe I'll "see" some of you there! :D

This isn't even our big one, this is the rinky dink little food fair thing down in Utah County. There will be a HUGE event this fall up in SLC that will probably draw national attention since Jennifer Esposito will be the keynote speaker. That is the one that I'm super stoked about.

I went to one in Rapid City a couple of years ago before the corn intolerance hit. It was fun, yummy, and educational. Wish I could close the shop for a few days and come out, but alas, it's tourist season and I have to be here.

Being self employed is not all its cracked up to be. Sure there are benefits but there are the downsides too. :(

Yeah, I keep telling my self I'm going to take a vacation but so far it's been seven years (exactly seven years yesterday as a matter of fact), with never more than one day in a row off. No, I take that back, I actually took two days off for a blizzard this past winter. It was glorious to be able to sleep in for a couple of days, but shoveling snow isn't my idea of a vacation.

Okay, I have to share this because I can't believe what happened. We all say we try this things that are amazing right? Well I had a donut today that was absolutely to die for. My husband said he wouldn't have known it was gluten free. OMG I thought I would die of happiness as it melted in my mouth! I brought a mix home and can't wait to make them.

I also got all sorts of goodies and freebies. And my husband won a drawing for a gift certificate for a local BBQ joint. Woo!!!

As soon as the lady who does the donuts gives me a link to her new website I'll be sure to share! I also picked up a red velvet cake mix from her and that will honestly probably get made before the donuts. I am a sucker for red velvet anything. The woman is also the force behind the new (less sucky) formula for gluten free Bisquick, so she knows her stuff. She is simply amazing.

Bahahaha! She says she just got her website up and running but the link isn't on her facebook page yet. I'll harass her on Monday about it and then send you for donuts! Then you can be a little less jelly donut and a little more eating donuts. :D Or eating jelly donuts.

Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.

That's a good idea. It can at least establish the potential for developing celiac disease and can help people decided between a celiac diagnosis and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). And it doesn't require a gluten challenge and can be had without a doctor's prescription.

I have my endoscopy on Thursday, has anyone had the procedure done with a cough? I don't have a continuous cough, but every now and then throughout the day I have sort of coughing episodes. They are a lot better than they were but I called endoscopy and they said to speak to my gp and my gp got back to me and said I need to ask endoscopy if its ok if I have it done still.  Help!

Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!
