I recently got my lab work done and my gluten number shot all the way up to 24. In October, it was a 3. I haven’t ate any gluten since but I was trying to think of what has changed in my diet since then. I changed yogurt brands recently. I now use great value. Do you think that even tho there is no gluten in yogurt, it could just be the brand? I’m so lost and confused!

A quick look at one of their yogurts (I don't know which you bought) indicates that it's naturally gluten-free:

Most yogurts are naturally gluten-free.

You may need to look closely at everything you eat to be sure it is 100% gluten-free, and be sure not to eat out, as that is the likely culprit.

What Scott said is true, but this is a highly processed yogurt (not very natural in my book).   What is all that stuff in it and why?    Because it is private labeled for Walmart, you can not contact the manufacturing company to determine if the lines are shared or not, etc.

I do buy yogurts that are labeled gluten free (certified gluten-free or just gluten-free) or just those plain that contain only milk.  For example, Chobani is labeled gluten free.  You can be assured that other fruit toppings added and the manufacturing processes insure that gluten in not in the supply line.   Kirkland (Costco) plain Yogurt contains just milk and naturally occurring bacteria which is a by-product from fermenting milk.  While certified gluten-free, (even if it wasn’t),  just plain milk yogurt is not suspect.

So many yogurts now have granola or cookies and cream flavors.  You have to think about that.  How well do they clean manufacturing lines?

Best to go back to your old yogurt brand.

I guess what I am trying to say, is do your best to avoid gluten and just move forward.  You can go crazy trying to determine a gluten source.  But my best advice is to not eat out for a while.   Probably most gluten exposures happen in restaurants (shared kitchens) and not from processed foods like that Walmart yogurt (rare).

Even though Walmart will mark it gluten free, they can’t guarantee that it is. It can be cross contaminated very easily. So be very careful when you buy Great Value! It makes me angry when they mix their brand with the other gluten free stuff. It’s a lie. And it could make someone really sick!

In the USA, if "starch," "modified food starch," ect. is listed in the ingredients, if it made from wheat, it must be so stated. Otherwise, it will be made from some other plant source, usually corn. You may be reacting to the casein (primary protein in dairy) or some added ingredient. Dairy products do not naturally contain gluten.

I had what was termed "lesions," and normally ulcers are in the stomach, rather than the small intestines. I'm not sure why they would want you to have her continue to eat gluten, since she had a positive blood test, but as her doctor said, if she is uncomfortable and having symptoms why not have her go gluten-free at this point? If her symptoms improve, it would be another indicator that she has celiac disease and/or gluten sensitivity. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):

In the USA we also do a fruit cake that probably has UK origins, and my grandmother's always had lots of rum in it. I just found these:

Since the originator of the group no is no longer active here, I put you in charge...perhaps you can revive it?

Scanlan, any luck with the b1 vitamins or anything else ? New celiac of 10 months and anytime I push myself i over exert myself with weights I’m exhausted for several days afterwards.  Had a blood test done too and everything was normal.  Thanks !

My daughter had her endoscopy today. The Dr said it looked normal but she has two small ulcers. The Dr took 16 biopsies, ahold have the results in a few days. She told her to keep eating gluten until we get the biopsy results unless it’s bothering her stomach too much.  has anyone else had ulcers with celiac?
