Got the chickens in the pen yesterday, but the wee fools were too scared to go into the coop and slept in a pile in the corner of the pen.

Woke up to someone screaming and raced out to chase away the raccoon that reached through to grab. The little silkie, Mulberry, has a bunch of feathers ripped out of her back, but I don't see any other injuries. I washed her down and put antibiotic ointment on the booboo.

I had to stuff the other chickens in the coop and block them in, and now they don't want to come out. Can't say as I blame them...

Anyway, I've been up since 2 and have had nought but coffee since then.

Mulberry's tucked in a rubbermade container with a container of aspirin water and a plate of scrambled eggs. The others have gatorade in their water, which I put in the coop, and a threw in a few handfuls of food. Gatorade is supposed to help with shock.

I'm babbling. I gotta eat something.

This is somehow quite phunny. . . :lol: Li'l chickens served up scrambled eggs, Gatorade and aspirin... . ..sounds like an elite athlete's breakfast... ...

We had an injured Jay once, the first thing they do is give them sugar water. A swan that was injured, they gave her corn or maple syrup for shock.

There was a Tv show on years ago called "Eerie Indiana". These kids found odd things happening in thier town. ONe was some kids that stayed in "5th?" grade for the last 30 years. They slept in tupperware at night so they stayed fresh & young.

Now this is fascinating.. . . .......we now need to look at many fingers, not just the thumb. Must have a look at DH's hands - - canna even picture the relationship between his ring and index finger....

Well, lookit this... . . ... .. seems a long ring finger means more than a long penis -- there's an entire personality profile associated with lengthy ring fingers...

I am frickin exhausted. Put hardware fabric (or something like that) all around the pen. Sewed it to the existing poultry netting with wire. Put poultry netting inside, under the plastic roof. And I've been up since 2.

Realized I missed rehearsal and sent a note of apology.

Would love to go to bed, but I need to wait until the chicks go in their coop. I may give up and stuff them in again.

We all survived the night. I woke up a few times 'just in case' but never heard anything. The motion sensor light went on a few times (sorry neighbor!) but I never saw anything when I looked out the window. All looks fine this morning.

Mulberry looks great. She's sitting on her crumbles, nibbling scrambled egg mixed with yogurt. I'm thinking three days of aspirin water. Any opinions on that? Think of your kid taking a sliding fall off a bike and getting horrible road rash, how long would it hurt?

Probably will hurt for a couple of days. Imagine getting you hair pulled out! Ouch! Poor chickie!

With my kids, if they are busy with the next thing, the road rash is ignored.

Yep, that's right . . . get her involved in a new hobby and it will take her mind off of her injuries . . . sewing? . . . water skiing? . . . calligraphy?

I was thinking - chasing bugs, pecking the other chicks, digging up the neighbor's garden.

She needs to be in until she doesn't smell like blood, or the other chicks will peck at her. Saturday I'll put her in a pen in THE pen and let them all start remembering that they know each other.

      There is a 10 year old post in this forum on Edy's and Dreyer's ice cream. The information is somewhat outdated and the thread is closed to further comment, so here is a new one. Edy's And Dreyer's Grand Vanilla Bean Ice Cream - 1.5 Quart is labeled "Gluten Free". This is a different answer than years gone by. I don't know the answer for any other flavor at this moment. On 1 May, 2026, Edy's website says: "As a general rule, the gluten in Edy's and Dreyer's® frozen dessert products is present only in the added bakery products, such as cookies, cake or brownies. We always label the eight major food allergens on our package by their common name. We recommend to always check the label for the most current information before purchasing and/or consuming a product. The exception to this rule is our Slow Churned French Silk frozen dairy dessert, which contains gluten in the natural flavors." https://www.icecream.com/us/en/brands/edys-and-dreyers/faq It seems that Edy's and Dreyer's are more celiac-friendly than they were 10 years ago.       My dad had an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.  Fortunately, it was discovered during an exam.  The doctor could feel my dad's heart beating in his stomach/abdomen.  The aneurysm burst when the doctor first touched it in surgery.  Since he was already hooked up to the bypass machine, my dad survived ten more years.  Close call!       You have an odd story there. To me, the mechanical trigger suggests a mechanical problem and lower leg pain is a classic sciatica symptom. The fact that the clear mechanical linkage is no longer there does not take away from the fact that it was - maybe something shifted and the simple alignment is no longer there. There's also a good chance I am wrong and it's something else entirely. @Scott Adams's mention of shingles is interesting. It seems possible but unlikely to me, but who knows. However, I am writing here to reinforce the idea of getting the shingles vaccine. Ask anyone who has ever had shingles and they will bend your ear telling you how bad it is. I watched my wife go through it and it scared the bejeebers out of me. Even if you had the chicken pox vaccine, you really want to get the shingles vaccine.

      Oddly this effect has gone now, just happened yesterday evening, the nerve pain is now back to its usual "unpredictable" random self again - but that was the only time I ever had some mechanical trigger for it, don't know why! There's no (or wasn't) actual pain in my neck - it was inside the leg, but when I looked down, now though, the leg pain just comes and goes randomly as before again.
