GlutenFreeManna Rising Star

So Saturday after lunch I realized that I need to get some more food to try to feed the unwanted house guests, lest they bring in more. I make a list of other things that we need for the new place. I plan to make a trip to Home Depot for the household items and then to BJ's warehouse because I can buy rotisserie chickens there that don't have any gluten, dairy or soy. Some chicken, nuked baked potatoes and salad and we could have an easy meal that doesn't take a lot of prep.

Everyone starts giving me imput about what we need for the new place. Most of their ideas are shot down by us sayign "We have that already it's just packed in a box somewhere and hasn't been found." FIL suggest that we shopuld just go tot eh dollar store and buy new items of several things we already own. We tell him those are cheap, won't last long and the ones we have are good quality. We don't want to waste time or money. He argues with us about it and so we tell him he is welcome to go buy whatever he thinks we need for us but it will probably we thrown out once they leave. That shuts him up but he doesn't give up. I set down my list for a second to go get my purse. FIL picks it back up and ADDS the items he has been telling us we need to buy to MY list. I decide to just let it go and not buy those items.

I'm headed for the door when all of a sudden I realize they expect to ALL go with me. They won't all fit in my car and the AC isn't working anyway. So suddenly I find myself talked into lettign them all go. Okay, I think, at least they can't break things or mess things up anymore at the new place if they are with me. But it's mid afternoon and the heat is terrible and my MIL walks as slow as a 100 year old woman.

To be continued....

Saturday afternoon:

Did I mention this is the second time I have ridden in their vehicle now and it's covered with cracker crumbs? We were half way done shopping when my glutening symptoms kicked in full time. I had been feeling the fatigue and joint pain that comes on for me before the GI symptoms already but had hoped it was the heat and from moving and not gluten. We get to Home Depot and I have to beeline for the bathrooms. I don't make it in time and soil my underwear. First time that has happened to me in over two years. Fortunately I had thrown an extra pair into my purse just in case. I throw away my underwear in the bathroom trash, get the rest of the list and go to check out, ignoring FIL's attempts to get me to look at the items HE thinks we need.

We go to BJ's and they don't have any of the rotisserie chicken ready that I can eat. The deli workers say it will be an hour before they have more. So MIL starts suggesting other thigns that they could buy, all things which I can't eat. I need to run for the bathroom again and tell them that we will have to go to a different store and NOT to buy anything there. Fortunately they complied and headed for the door. My second pair of underwear goes in the trash in the BJ's bathroom and I'm now going commando.:ph34r:

Somehow I manage to convince them to go back to the new place instea dof another store. It's 101 with a heat index of 120 and just gettign in and out of the car is taxing. Once we get back I give them a few easy jobs and pretend to start doing things myself. At the first opportunity I pull my husband aside and tell him the situation and my plan. Once my stomach settles down and after about 5 trips to the bathroom I grab my keys and purse and sneak out the door without telling anyone I'm leaving. Hubby knows I'm going to the store to do the shopping that I couldn't get done with them in tow. I go to the other BJ's on the other side of towna nd get everythign I need with only two bathroom stops while int he store. By the time I'm pushign the car tup tot he register though I'm so weak I feel like my knees are going to buckle. I call hubby and tell him what's up, that I'm planning to come back as soon as I get checked out and to check on me if I'm not home in an hour.

I made it back with the food and sort of just shoved it at them, said I was sick and to please help themselves. I crashed big time the rest of Saturday afternoon....

I am not a big fan of your hub right now. Sounds like he should have sent them packing by noon Friday. You shouldn't have to try to feed them when you are sick, tired & trying to get your house together. They can go out. ( they should be put out)

You have much more patience than I do! I would have said, " it's my house! We are doing it my way! If I want your opinion or ideas, I'll ask! "

Well they are gone now. I've spent all day hiding in the bedroom, drinking water and going back and forth to the bathroom. I'm still trying to figure out what got them to leave a day early but it seems they are mad at me for being sick! Husband explained to them everything that they did wrong that could have made me sick (there were a few more instances I didn't even list here-- Sunday was a distaster as well). So they decided to leave. FIL feels responsible for my being sick and is mad about it and didn't even say goodbye to me or anything. MIL came to my bedside to say goodbye and lied through her teeth saying what a good time they had and how she enjoyed seeing us and helping us move. I lied and told her thank you for all the help, I'm sorry I'm too sick to visit anymore, blah, blah, blah...Thay are gone as of 5 minutes ago. Husband is mad at me because I'm not appreciative of all their "help" and he wanted to see his brother for a little longer, but he will get over it. Right now I just want to sleep for two days and then get up and organize my new place. I will contemplate the move to Kansas once I'm feelign better.

Sorry for all the long-winded complaining posts. It has been very theraputic to just get it all out though. When I'm not so sick I'm sure some of these little annoyign incidents will seem phunny.

kareng Grand Master

Some of it might be a bit funny. Did they leave all the broken junk? Maybe it could be an art installation. " the In-laws". do you have free cycle there? Google it. You list the junk you want to get rid of & people come & get it.

Your hub can see his brother anytime. He can go to his house or brother can come visit ( if he's OK) They could meet somewhere to play golf, or gamble or camp.

I think you said you hadn't seen them for 3 years? I guess you have 3 years to recover & move somewhere else!

It's been two years. BIL is sort of like a child mentally. He's in his 30's and still lives with their parents. If I had to guess what is wrong with him I would say he has aspergers or high functioning autism. He's smart about some thigns but he takes everything very literally and needs very specific instructions. He doesn't laugh at any jokes and can't read body language at all. Sometimes I wonder if this is why we have such a hard time communicating with MIL and FIL too but they will laugh at a joke and I can tell they understand what we mean, they just choose to ignore us and do what they want to do. BIL parrots what FIL says a lot and so if FIL tells him soemthing he takes it as 100% right and the only way to think about things.

I found out FIL blew up about my being so sick, went off on a long tirade about how I needed to see a dr and get medication for my problem. My husband tried to explain (for the 100th time) that celiac disease cannot be treated with medicine, the only treatment is to avoid gluten, etc. FIL went off the deep end, seemed to not believe him and think we were making this up. So he got mad and they left. My husband said they may NEVER visit us again. I hope it's true!

We could also take over Colorado. It's already half gluten-free with Udis and Canyon Bakehouse in Denver. We may have to allow gluten in enclosed trucks to pass thru on I 70. Maybe charge a nice toll?

Well, tis nuttin' compared to GFM's day(s), but I took today off and worked towards cleaning my house. It's never really been put back together since I started the kitchen remodel two or so years ago (which still isn't done), but now I have a spare bedroom to pile crap in store excess furnishings so there's no excuse for living in this mess. Still finding stuff the ex forgot to take with him when he left. Anyone need a toaster?

Time for wine and sitting on my butt.

Oh, your poor dear, having to suffer through all this  As if moving were not stressful enough to start with - we just went through it so I know!

How can your FIL be so ignorant, so willfully ignorant, about your health?? Good riddance if you never see him again

What an absolutely ghastly weekend you have had. I hope you recover soon :)

Perhaps we can pack up your old junk & J is cleaning out old robot parts, & ship them to GFM's inlaws.

Thanks Mushroom. My insides still feel like someone took a cheese grater to them. He just seems to think that you can take a pill for everything. If you can't take a pill for it it must not exist medically.

I found out another gem from my husband after they left. FIL said the townhouse we moved into seemed like it was in "section 8 housing" and he would be scared to live in this neighborhood. We do live in a city but this is a safe area (we checked the crime stats and have driven through several times at night) and nothing like section 8 housing. The townhouses are well kept up and people don't have run down cars or anything. We can't figure out why he would say it seems like section 8 except that it is very racially diverse. So on top of everything else FIL is a racist. The last place we lived was mostly white but we frequently heard gunshots at night, the neighbors never spoke to us, everyone kept to themselves, and homeless men were living in tents in the woods nearby. etc. This place is mostly African Americans and the lady that lives nextdoor has already come over and introduced herself and we met two of her kids playing outside while we were unloading the truck. I haven't met the neighbors on the other side (don't know what race they are and I don't really care) but my husband did and he said they offered to mow our lawn for us until we can get a mower. The HOA will fine us if we don't mow the lawn. There's only a patch of grass about 10 ft by 10 feet in the back yard, so we plan to order one of those reel push mowers that don't take any gasoline. So far this has been the nicest place we've lived in this city!

kareng Grand Master

GFM it sounds like you have nice neighbors. That is always helpful.

I think the heat is getting to me! This is what I did:

J is getting ready for college. He really likes to get a hunk of Kraft cheese and apples & cut them to eat. So he wanted a paring knife for the dorm. Not sure if they are really allowed but seemed like a good idea to me.

I went & bought this knife Open Original Shared Link (the blade is 3 inches not the whole knife)

Got it home & realized - Its a weapon!

Ended up with this cheap & flimsy one:

I shall write a detailed account of my insane weekend a little later today. I'm starving and must go eat lunch :P

Sweetie-pie is on vacation and I won't be seeing him for three weeks (the longest time ever not seeing each other!).

When's the wedding?? Must make plans! ;)

LOL! I thought they are supposed to "lay" eggs not squirt them out! :)

That.is.very.appetizing.....

They are too wound up in themselves. As they have done some evil things, I'm happy. :)

This sounds like a good story......

Vegas is sooo hot right now. Is there somewhere else we could meet? Maybe Jess's house? WE could commune with the chickens.

I needed a house sitter last week!!!

One of his goals is no babies. :o

That sounds like a good plan...

I will try to review and give the highlights so far:

Lady, you are stressing me out just reading this!!! So glad they're gone now!!!

I'll start this and may have to do it in chunks-

Saturday morning-3 hours late leaving the house. 10 minutes from house I get a 300$ speeding ticket in a work zone <_< Technically, I was speeding, but it was a total trap-Promise!! ;) Drive like my mother (slooooooooooow) the rest of the way, takes an hour longer than it should have. Got to the "resort" and the song from Deliverance was playing in my head. It was like a scene from a horror movie, where you drive up to an amusement park, hear music playing but looks like no one has inhabited the place for 30 years. NO JOKE-go to check in, greeted by this buck toothed woman in a bikini top and overalls with a cigarette hanging outta her mouth. I shoulda ran at this point... Gave me the keys to 'cabin' 10. The key unlocked a padlocked chain on the slider. Pray to God you don't require a handrail to get up to the porch bc theres a swallows nest above it and of course they don't crap in their nest--they hang their arses outta the nest and crap all over whatever is underneath. At least a 1/2 inch of accumulation as wide as the board and at least a foot down the board. I opened the door to a 'living room' with carpet so stained, it looked like a kegger had been thrown, or perhaps a murdur scene. I didn't unpack anything the entire week and I'm STILL wondering WHY IN HELL we didn't refuse to stay there  The toilet was so close to the sink that only Max could sit forward facing on it. To close the 'bathroom door' you actually had to open a closet door to move in front of the 'bathroom' doorway. The only noncarpet flooring was in the kitchen and it looked like it hadn't been mopped since 1960. The oven and fridge were clean though... Skipping ahead a bit... bc I NEVER touch comforters in hotels, motels, trailers, WHEREVER, I wrapped my kids up in their beach towels that night for blankets, I slept NOT AT ALL and I got up at 6am to go back into town to go to WalMart and bought sleeping bags for everyone! (we brought our own pillows)

Saturday night-of course everyone (except me) gets crazy drunk. It's all fun and games until the camp host comes down at midnight and tells us if we don't all shut up, we were going to be kicked out... Funny how when my aunt made these reservations, she warned him of us, how we are, what we do, and he said it would be NOOOOOOO problem... <_< My crazy dad's crazy girlfriend was out of control and after the host came down, I went over to turn the stereo off and she started yelling at me. I kindly asked her to shhhhhhh. She started screaming louder. I more firmly told her to be quiet. Again, she screamed louder. I then screamed at her to SHUT UP!!! She sat down in her chair and started mumbling to her self like a 2 year old "shut up? shut up? she told me to shut up?" At this point, Jesse pulled me back to the trailer so I wouldn't beat her arse and I was standing in the kitchen brushing my teeth, all the lights off and I see her wandering around the camp site, from table to table like she was looking for something. She walked around one of the tables that had 3 guys sittin at it, dropped her pants and PEED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SITE!!!!!! WTF?????????

I have to break, will follow with Sunday in a bit

I need to give a bit of dramatous background here. So, my dad and I don't have a great relationship. Not sure there was ever a time where he was faithful to my mom and the nail in his coffin was when I was 12 and I was a nanny for my parent's BFFs. We did everything with them and their kids were my brother and sister's best friends as well. I sat for them 3 days a week, when MJ (wife) went to town to go to the 'gym'. At the end of the summer, my mom packed us all up and took us to my grandmother's house. She sat us down and told us that my dad (his name is Jim :lol:-but not really ) and MJ were having an affair. Then it dawned on me that I was sitting for her kids while she was screwing him on his lunch break (this was confirmed...). Relationship-OVER!

Now a bit of history on the crazy girlfriend... Right before Thanksgiving 2009, my dad's bff (also named Jim), went up into the woods with a shotgun, texted my dad (we'll never know what he said, but I can certainly guess...) and blew a hole in his heart. Right after Christmas (1 month later!!), dead Jim's wife is calling my dad 'honey' and 'sweetie' and my grandma 'mom' And then I hear that they got married right after New Years in a fake ceremony that "is as real as it needs to be".... Whatever.... She's a raging alcoholic and is bat-sh!t crazy when she's drunk!

OK-

Sunday-Not as much drama... No one gets up before 11 except for a few of us women (and my kids). We clean up the mess from the night before and make breakfast for our men  My aunt goes to take a shower in the main bathroom facility and pulls a giant wad of hair out of the drain that was flooding the floor and tossed it towards the back of the shower (I did NOT ask how she went about that :PUKE:) At one point I pass the main office, where buck-toothed Betty and her leathered face hub are chain smoking for about 9 hours a day (EVERY DAY) and there's this young, handsome guy sitting with them... It's my uncle's 50th bday, so Jesse's supposed to get him into town for AN HOUR so we can set up for his surprise party. 3.5 hours later they show up and by that time everyone's starving and ticked off.... Soooooo they start drinking again-like 2 hours prior.... By 1030, I shunt everyone to the back of the campground which we were given to prevent our anticks (sp?) from pissing off the other campers, getting us kicked out. About 1130, I see that handsome guy again, with his backpack on, with a lasso attached... My cousin dubbed him 'The Blue Lake Killer" He and Jesse were in this in depth conversation, so I slipped off to go to bed.

Monday-we spend the day floating on the lake. I think I'm the only one who didn't get charred. Perhaps it was bc I put bottles of sunscreen and water in my floaty's cupholders instead of beer, beer and more beer like everyone else. My cousin actually floated out on a queen sized blowup camping mattress with a cooler on it, filled with beer. We had a potluck that night. "The Blue Lake Killer" who's actually a real cowboy from across the lake has come to join us for the evening. He's crushing on my gorgeous cousin who could care less, but I think her brother had a little bromance going with him as well. I shall now refer to him as 'Cowboy'. Cowboy still has his lasso with him.. ... and teaches everyone to "lasso a stump" Crazy still hasn't come out of her RV and my dad hasn't spoke 2 words to me. I went to bed EARLY and finally slept!!

--wad of hair...still there...

Tuesday-the morning is blustery and raining. The wind is howling, but I'll be damned if I'm going to sit inside that trailer until it blows over, so Max and I cuddle up under one of the awnings, wrap ourselves in beach towels and he plays on my phone while I read. Pretty soon, one of the cousins comes tearing out of her trailer looking for the gorgeous cousin, who's also a nurse. Apparently, in their crap-hole of a trailer, her 1 year old reached down, just under the bed, picked up a pill of unknown origin, and swallowed it before her mom could get to her. This pill did NOT belong to them, but was left by a previous camper. They ended up taking her to the ER where they force fed her charcoal and had to wait for it to pass  I got a text from my mom (bc there's hardly any phone service, but there's free wi-fi  ) that says my grandma is in the hospital, she had an angiogram and that she's having emergency open heart on Thursday. I.Am.Devestated :(

--Can't remember anything else about that day, except the wad of hair is still there...

More in a bit...

Let me know if you're bored...

Ok, here's the rest:

Wednesday-My sister finally arrived!!!! I left Jesse with the kids and we went for an incredible 5 mile walk. Then we came back, packed everyone up and went into town to get a park pass so we could go hiking. This pass is sold at the Shell station which is also a restaurant/ice cream parlor/convenient/liquor/clothing and sundry store  We hike up into the Lenore Caves for the rest of the day and have a smashing good time. The view from the top of the canyon is sooooo amazing! We have an auction that night after dinner, where my dad and crazy emerge from their RV totally drunk already. Someone volunteers him to be the auctioneer so now we have to listen to him rambling and crazy behind him catcalling and being obnoxious. Then.Comes.Yucca..... Of course we go thru copious amounts of vodka at an incredible pace-we were out before midnight... I hear my dad and my sister getting into a screaming match and someone pulls her away before I can hear what they're saying. (I'm NOT drunk at all) I stand in the dark behind his chair listening to him babble to her fiance for about 15 min before he sees me and wants me to come sit on his lap so he can tell me how much he loves me. I tell him if he wants to come talk to me sober, find me in the morning-otherwise, forget it. As I walk away, he nearly calls me a b%$@# but stops himself. Then he starts in on my mom. If there's one thing you DO NOT DO, is mess with my mother. Yes, she's not perfect, but she's done EVERYTHING for us. You don't badmouth her. I go back up to him and say, "Listen, you can say whatever you want about me (and he starts stuttering about how he never said anything), but you DO NOT say a bad word about my mom. Ever." He sart yelling at me saying that I have no idea about 'That woman', that she's no angel, blah, blah, blah. I tell him he'd better stop NOW or there's gonna be a problem, then I walk away and go stand with my uncle-his brother-which royally ticks him off-MAAAAAAY-Jah rivals. 5 minutes later he's back in my face trying to tell me how much he loves me, slobbering all over me. I say 'whatever'. He looks at me-2 inches from my face and says "Don't say whatever!" and then he spits in my face. I go to bed and he doesn't say another word to me until Saturday as we're loading into the car and he says, "I'm sorry about the other night, we really should sit down and talk sometime..." Whatever...

--the hair wad is still in the shower

Thursday is great! Grandma breezes thru surgery! Dad and crazy don't come out at all... River floating all day, eating junk food, get an incredible tan WITH sunscreen! The guys make dinner, the kids are having a great time!! We go to Grand Coulee Dam and see the lazer light show. This is what it's all about!

--Wad of hair-check... And we'll raise you a used tampon... Yep, that's what I said!

Friday-We had talked to cowboy that morning and he told us some good places to go hiking. 8 of us pile into my car, and dad and crazy follow-still not on speaking terms... We go to Deep Lake near Dry Falls (Literal names here... ) It's sooooo beautiful! we've been hiking for at least an hour when we're about to crest over this basalt rocky hill to see the amazing Castle Lake, when from 20ft away and 5 people in between us-including my kids-I hear the rattle. My dad who can't hear crap nearly puts his hand on the darned thing's head when he finally hears crazy scream and falls backwards down the rocks leaving a bunch of gashes in his arm (Karma...???). The kids were screaming and crying back down the trail, sooooo, the hike was over ;). We had a great last night by the fire. All the 'adults' -generation above us-got totally plastered while us 'kids' sat around the fire and talked for hours. Great end to an interesting week!

--Wad of hair, still there. Tampon, still there

Saturday-Before we leave in the afternoon, I check 1 more time. Hair wad is still there, so is the tampon!

kareng Grand Master

Wow! Even if the accommodations had been great, this was a horrible trip. Just curious, why does anyone invite you dad? Sounds like everyone would be happier without him there. Not sure he should be around children.

celiac-mommy Collaborator

He's not around my kids very often at all. He's never been allowed to keep them by themselves. When he's not drinking,he's OK, its just unpredictable. As for the invitations, can't answer that one. The funny thing was, overall, we had a great time. I just laughed about it all because, really, what else could I do?! I just sat back and watched everyone else deconstruct!

It's possible, as there are other things that may cause elevated tTg-IgA levels, but in general a reaction to gluten is the culprit:    Also, approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS.

Perhaps you could bring you own? Not sure, but worth a try.

I received my ANA test results - negative.  I'm thinking it was infection, was put on antibiotics for suspected sibo at the time blood test was taken. Significant improvements from taking them even while eating gluten.

Thanks again. I've actually convinced my local butcher shop to start carrying Ghostfish gluten-free beer. It's not bad! But you won't often find it at a ski lodge.

Villi damage is caused by celiac disease, which does not happen in NCGS, although some people with NCGS do have elevated antibody levels. Some people with NCGS who have the genes for celiac disease may end up developing celiac disease, so in some people NCGS may be a precursor to celiac disease, but more research needs to be done on NCGS. Both low iron and vitamin D are common symptoms of celiac disease. Also, regarding beer:
