Oh, Gaaaaawwwwwwwd..... :(:(

Ptaoughhm, I watch the Triple Crown obsessively each year...I am a true horse person. We watched the race at my parents', and then had to immediately go down to the dining room for dinner, so we left the broadcast just as they were showing the equine ambulances pulling up around a downed horse. I couldn't stay long enough to even hear which horse, but I had a sick feeling that it was that beautiful little filly. Oh, gawwwddd..... :(:(

Sat down here to google the race and find out what had happened, but decided to check in with you guys first. I am so surprisingly saddened by this news...(inappropriately?)....

But ya know, I'm glad it was one of us Sillies, Ptaoughmn, that I heard it from, somehow...

Do we need a heavy jacket for the canal cruise? Umbrella? Gold dipped roses for the hostess?

:lol::lol:

Mygawd, how I wish this were really happening....

Light jackets will do. Umbrellas for Canada goose poop....

I'm THERE!!

Uh-oh .. ...flight doesn't land until 11:45pm your time.

I'll just get a cab. Leave a key under the 3rd rock by the 2nd bush to the right??

You got it. Actually, I'll bury it next to our BIG, BEAUTIFUL CHESTNUT TREE in the back that does NOT have to be cut down!!!!! Yes!! Had a very good arborist over today who looked carefully at it and said that it's the biggest chestnut tree he's seen in this part of the continent, and that with some pruning and heavy fertilizing, it should be fine! :):)

He quietly said to me, "You know.....this tree looks to me like it's been hugged...."

What superb Canadianisms, Janet. It is all so true - - these are not simply stereotypes....they ring with accuracy. We are a bizarre, innocent, polite, exasperating bunch up here....

Did he really say the tree looked like it had been hugged? :o I'm so glad that it won't have to be cut down--that's great news!!!! :D

He really did say that - - how funny, eh?

I am SO happy about my big tree...that's also probably funny. I guess I think of it as my massive friend who's been out there watching over us through our lives in this house.

Jeez....I should be hugging everybody.......

Wish I could have hugged Eight Belles....... :(

Emily, Great news about the tree . . . :D

And what terrible news about that poor horse . . . :(

Well.....he said that the tree looked like it had been regularly hugged, not that I looked like I had been regularly hugging trees....but interesting, nonetheless....must go and check my sweater....

I cannot describe it....my big tree just looks....happier. I think I can hear it actually sighing when I put my arms around it. I certainly can hear the neighboUrs whispering...

She is quite beautiful! Are we thinking of getting Gus a little sister? :D

Good Sunday mornin' Sillies! Tis beautiful here today--sun is coming out and its headed up to 70! B)

My meds are making me very lightheaded...was told it could take a couple weeks for my system to get used to it. It seems to be working, though, at least. If this keeps up, I'll call next week and see if I need a dosage reduction.

Perfect day to sit on my butt and paint the Adirondack chairs :P They are currently black, but I'm switching them to the perfect barn red.

Darn210 Enthusiast

Tis a beautimous day here also . . . will be heading outside a little later for yard work . . . de-dandelioning and de-dead shrubbing and if my knees hold out, planting of some annuals.

Em - she's a beauty, let us know how it goes. Are you going to take Gus to get his opinion?

Patti - light headed, eh? . . . I might just keep it that way if it were me :lol:

The ad sez, "She is for sale due to having horse and we are afraid she wil get hurt".

I was thinking, "that must be some horse throat she has"

Oh how fun Patti, the barn red sounds perfect for the chairs.

Just make sure you plant your butt, don't want to topple over with the light headedness

Did they mention if feeling light headed was usual as your body adjusts?

It's a fantabulous day here as well, temps will get into the 70s :D

Morning Sillies!

Wow another busy weekend it has been....we were to a wedding yesterday. It was an outdoor wedding (it was chilly so I couldnt wear the dress I had wanted) Anyway my good college bud got married and we are so happy for him.

We went to the casino late last night and I won 75 bucks...which i am going to Kohl's right now to use to buy some nice clothes for work.

Today I need to catch up on some house work. The work clothes are all washed and need to be put away. We need to go grocery shopping too.

See all my sillies later!

jerseyangel Proficient

Julie--Yes, it's pretty common with this stuff. I'm hoping it'll work itself out by the end of the week--the Pharmacist said it could take 2 weeks.

Janet--Ha! Kinda like having a slight buzz on all the time--yes, I shall turn this into a positive  All the benefits of half a bottle of wine, without all the calories :P

Going to attempt the grocery store (with Mark) and Starbucks, and then I gotta get to work. See ya'll later. :D

Well, despite a completely grey sky, it's a pretty nice morn here too. It'll be sunny by noon.

Today's our Cinco de Mayo parade - a big deal 'round these parts.

It starts ~ a block away, so I should get out there & check it out.

Then the festival is all day, and free. I'll have to tear myself away from NBA playoffs but it should be worth it.

<sidenote frown> I miss sampling all the food at these things :(

(P.S. I like thinking about Em's BIG old chestnut tree being a survivor) :)

Dude! You've already tried all the food! Try sampling something new, like kiss all the women you walk by. Probably less risk of CC than the free snacks, you'll start a new tradition, and who knows, you may even get a bit of exercise as you run (for your life).

Me, Too!! It makes me suddenly quite happy, deep down...kind of like grief in reverse. :)

But I really do need to know if its battling back, its colossal fight to recovery, has happened as a result of me hugging it. Really....I kind of need to know this.....:huh::rolleyes:

Chortle Chain.......

This is a great suggestion you've posited, Jess. Try this, Ptaoughmn. Every second woman you walk past at first....ease into it. At the same time, I could start a new tradition up here of hugging all men who walk by. Look what happened to my big tree after many hugs! Perhaps I'll have men jumping out of their wheelchairs, throwing their crutches away, pitching their painkillers down the sewers....

........Ya never know.............

Forgot to mention - - love yer av, Ptaoughmn! Those look like two happy, fun kids to be around. :)

Hello, all. Not much happening here, except that the sun is shining after several days gloom and rain. Cool, but warming up.

Good news about your tree, Emily.

Hallo Sillies- As my nieces would say, "You go to Canada? I COME TOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" but Canada would sound like Canda, or canra ??

Emily- Yeah on the chestnut tree and I too would be very upset about any horse that got injured. I'm still upset about Ruffian and that was eons ago. So sad......they can do a lot more about horse's with broken legs now but still :( :( :(

Thanks for the explanation about the "brown sauce". I kind of suspected it might be a colloquialism but I wasn't sure. So, are these "brown" and "red" sauces commercial products or home made or can it be either?
    • suek54
Hi Trents, its a very English thing....there's red sauce (ketchup) and brown sauce, more spicy. People tend to be one or the other. Both usually have malt vinegar in them, so both a no-no for us,  unless you hunt for a specified gluten-free make.  Hi Belle, Any meat which has been processed is likely to have cereal in it. If someone is having a BBQ, maybe take a small steak, lamb chop or piece of salmon for yourself. something which has had no processing at all.  No-one will mind, just leave it on a piece of foil so that it doesn't share space with gluten-containing foods.  Avoid all dressings, except olive oil, though again you could always take your own gluten-free version. It sure is a steep learning curve but I'm getting my head round it now.  Sue

Brown sauce? What's that about? What does the color have to do with anything?
    • BelleDeJour
Hi @suek54 Good point. I hesitated over what to choose to eat - there were burgers and sausages and I knew that each came with potential wheat possibility. It was my friend who was cooking the BBQ at a local event. It's so tricky, isn't it? I ended up going for the burger and stupidly didn't think about the brown sauce but knew something gluten-containing had been consumed as my legs were itching all over for hours when I went to bed on Sunday. Arrgh!  Actually, my initial thought was corn on the cob as I had that too... and it grows near wheat. Could it also have been that? Are you able to eat that?  I agree with you about the heat, I am finding it tricky too especially at night. I have had 3 itchy nights in a row and am at this point thinking I was silly not to ask about Dapsone at my derm appointment but maybe things will calm down now I am back on being more in control of my food. I also have some more topical steroid coming and that does keep it under control. I plan to visit my son in Scotland for a few days in July so am going to see how things go for a few weeks and if the itch does not calm again, I will do an e-consult with my GP and request Dapsone to try (or something that might just help a bit over that holiday, or longer term). I really don't relish the thought of being in Itch Hell on holiday, just want to enjoy seeing my son and his girlfriend.  So pleased to read that you are feeling more comfortable on the higher dose. I am really pleased for you and long may it continue for you.
    • suek54
Hi Belle Oops!  Can you eat burgers OK? So many of them have added cereal to pad them out.  Hope the after-effects are not too bad? I'm OK. Here in SE UK we are having a mini heatwave. 35° today. Keeping cool as much as possible to prevent itching from the heat. Otherwise not too bad thanks. Dapsone 100mg proving much better than 50mg. Still a few itchy patches but no spots as such. Making life easier.  How are you generally (when not eating brown sauce)? Sue
