But hey.....pizzles aren't round...um...are they?...haven't seen all that many, actually.... . .

Well, the basic dog-treat version is pretty close to round. I also have them curled into coils like a spring, and braided in pairs like you might do with hair. Drop by my shop and I'll show you some pizzles.

Some things have happened that are making it look like I will not be able to make the Philly Psilly Psession. :(

As you all know, our employee Sarah is on maternal leave, and has been since the beginning of March. In January, we hired a replacement. She was newly arrived in Toronto from Ottawa, following her boyfriend who had a new job here in Toronto. Well, he is being transferred to Calgary for an assignment of at least one year. Paid relocation expenses, etc. Of course, she is moving with him and will look for work there. With the oil industry in a boom, she won't have any trouble. Moving day is June 24. :( :(

Our other part-time employee is a high school student with one year left after this one. He lives with his mother (his father lives in another city). Well, his mom just bought a house north of the city and doesn't want him to commute. It would be an arduous journey via transit, and he doesn't have a car. He has only just applied for a driver's license, realizing that he will need it for the job to which he aspires. They move June 22. We found out this afternoon. :( :(

So, as it looks right now, it could be just the two of us in four weeks. The store is open seven days a week for a total of 63.5 hours. Add in the time to prepare to open and to do closing and balancing there is another 11 hours needed. Some of that time needs two people.

Even if we put out the "Help Wanted" notice tomorrow, the time to find and train people runs well into July.

There may be a light at the end of the tunnel. We have two customers who might fit the bill and could be brought up to speed quickly.

Send positive vibes this way. No, to heck with that! Send the yeti. He can do customer service and carry out 40 lb bags of dog food and cat litter.

Yes!! Yes!! Send the Yeti to Peter . . . where is the Yeti? . . . he never showed up to help with the mulch.

Peter, when people ask you about the Yeti, you can just tell them that you rescued him from the local animal shelter.:lol:

Good Luck with your man hunt for a new employee (or two).

Alex!!!! No Worries, Mate!!! I can handle it!!! I was debating doing the PM thing . . . it's just those things usually end up bitin' me in the arse later down the road and then I totally regret spillin' out too much info. I'll go and PM everybody with the names and then I'll end up offending one of youse guys because someone on me list is a best buddy. . .

LMAO thru this!

While I am curious, I do believe what's most likely is that our lists correlate HIGHly. ;)

<I kinda feel bad about even HAVING a list!! They're just trying their best, right?>

Yikes that sounds scary! But, yes I have entered a marathon of patience and understanding haven't I? But really (and I know this sounds gaggifying and maybe kinda of creepy but . . .) Ryan never annoys me and I don't think we've ever had a fight. I realize we're less than a month into our marriage but we have lived together for 4ish years.

It's only a certain personality types that gets under my skin. In a nutshell the "look at me/poor me/everybody feel sorry for me" type of person or the "I'm the absolute expert on everything . . . because I said so" type. But really I must resolve to try and be patient with everybody. Because how immature is it to only be able to tolerate tolerable people?

~alex~ Explorer
<I kinda feel bad about even HAVING a list!! They're just trying their best, right?>

Yes, absolutely! My mom was the most patient person in the world I think and could deal wonderfully with the most grating of personalities. She was always reminding me that everyone has their own story and that they usually had very good reasons for acting in the maladaptive ways that they did. (Um yeah, my mom was a psychologist ;) ). I can almost hear her reminding me that rude people are acting in such an angry way because they have so much anger/pain on the inside that it's spilling out of them.

Alright, I feel myself starting to wax philosophical which usually means it's time for bed (or under different circumstances that I've had too much to drink) so good night all.

Don't be too hard on yourself, Alex. Some days are better than others and maturity doesn't necessarily play a role. Plus, there are times when I wish I didn't "tolerate" someone and gave them a piece of my mind. Instead, I kept it to myself and then stewed over it . . . and over it . . . and over it. I guess the maturity part comes in to help you decide which way you should play it. I've got almost 20 years on you (if I've got your age right) and I'm still messin' it up from time to time.

Hi all! Haven't been around lately....not feeling very silly. Money issues....and summer break hasn't even started, yet. Didn't get the job from the interview I went to. :( I'm going to try to do some tutoring....been tutoring at the school's after school program for 2 years and I LOVE doing it. Just hope there is a need out there.

I'd LOVE to work in a pet store!....Toronto's not too far from Indy,...is it?:lol:

I vote for #2...............wait...am I too late? :P

There are a couple of posters that get on my nerves also......somewhat recent additions.........whew!!!!...so glad it's not me!

Alex, your mom sounds a lot like me.....it takes a LOT to get me worked up. I actually find it difficult to get angry when I know I should be.......therefore, some people get off too easy.

I would explain to my son that his "friend" that keeps ticking him off can't help the way he is."...... he has to act tough because of the way his father puts him down." We had lots of those kind of conversations.

Pizzles, huh.......I'll have to keep my ears open for that one. Middle school kids are always coming up with words for body parts and sexual acts that they think we don't understand. A couple of years ago a student was sexually harrassing me. One of the many things he did was "meow" at me.....which refers to another word for "kitty cat"...starts with a P. <_<

Well, today I had to calm down an angry 200+ pound boy......everything's OK, now :D Then I had to break up a fight.....actually, it took six boys and me screaming at them to break it up! THEN an administrator showed up just in time to help escort them to the office. <_< I started down the hall with one boy and he followed with the other.Welll......about halfway there, his kid came after my kid and started swinging and the administrator tackled him to the floor!! :o I grabbed my kid and got him out of there!!!

@Mynx, how long have you been gluten-free? I ask because many newly diagnosed celiacs react to many things, and often think their reactions are caused by gluten, when in fact, they are really caused by a combination of a sensitive gut due to damage, as well as additional food intolerance/leaky gut issues to other foods which may be temporary until their villi heal.
    • Scott Adams
Many major brands of distilled vinegar in the USA, including Heinz white vinegar, are typically made from corn. In the United States, corn is a common and cost-effective raw material used in the production of distilled white vinegar. The process involves fermenting the sugars derived from corn into alcohol, which is then further fermented into acetic acid to produce vinegar. Distillation follows, which purifies the liquid and removes impurities, including any residual proteins or allergens. While the source of the vinegar (e.g., corn) is not always explicitly stated on the label, corn-derived vinegar is widely used in the food industry due to its neutral flavor and affordability. For individuals with gluten intolerance or celiac disease, distilled vinegar made from corn is generally considered safe, as the distillation process effectively removes gluten proteins. However, if you have concerns about cross-contamination or specific sensitivities, it’s always a good idea to contact the manufacturer directly to confirm the sourcing and production practices. Heinz, for example, has stated that their distilled white vinegar is gluten-free and safe for those with celiac disease, but verifying this information can provide additional peace of mind. The belief that distilled vinegar is gluten-free is rooted in the scientific understanding that gluten proteins, which are large and complex molecules, are generally too big to pass through the distillation process. Distillation involves heating a liquid to create vapor, which is then condensed back into a liquid form, leaving behind larger molecules like gluten proteins. However, the concern about cross-contamination arises from the possibility that gluten-containing ingredients may have been present in the liquid prior to distillation. While the distillation process itself is highly effective at removing gluten, the equipment used in production could potentially introduce trace amounts of gluten if not thoroughly cleaned between batches. For most individuals with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, distilled vinegar is considered safe because the gluten content, if any, is typically below the threshold that would trigger a reaction. However, for those with extreme gluten intolerance or celiac disease, even trace amounts can cause adverse effects. This is why some individuals, like yourself, may choose to avoid commercially produced distilled vinegar and opt for alternatives like apple cider vinegar, which can be verified as gluten-free. The meticulous process of researching ingredients and preparing homemade products, such as ketchup, is indeed challenging but crucial for maintaining health and avoiding gluten exposure. It’s important to note that regulatory standards for gluten-free labeling vary by region, and in many places, products labeled "gluten-free" must contain less than 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten, which is considered safe for the vast majority of people with celiac disease. Nonetheless, individual sensitivity levels can vary, and your approach highlights the importance of personalized dietary management for those with severe gluten intolerance.

I have been diagnosed with Microscopic Colitis (LC) for quite a few years, so I have been gluten-free and DF.  I would like to get tested for Celiac Disease because of the possibility of cross contamination and colon cancer.  And if you were hospitalized and didn't have a celiac diagnosis you could not get gluten-free food, I don't know if that is true or not.  Also because there is chance of colon cancer so I want to know if I have Celiac Disease and need to be on very restrictive diet.  The only testing I did was a sigmoid scope and Enter Lab but no gene testing.  I know I can go back to eating gluten for a few months, but I would worry you would have to stay home for the few months while getting gluten.  What other options do I have?  Should I do the gene testing?  Maybe through Entero Lab?  Any other tests?  How important is it to have Celiac diagnosed? Thank you! Barb
    • trents
Take it easy! I was just prompting you for some clarification.  In the distillation process, the liquid is boiled and the vapor descends up a tube and condenses into another container as it cools. What people are saying is that the gluten molecules are too large and heavy to travel up with the vapor and so get left behind in the original liquid solution. Therefore, the condensate should be free of gluten, no matter if there was gluten in the original solution. The explanation contained in the second sentence I quoted from your post would not seem to square with the physics of the distillation process. Unless, that is, I misunderstood what you were trying to explain.
    • Mynx
No they do not contradict each other. Just like frying oil can be cross contaminated even though the oil doesn't contain the luten protein. The same is the same for a distilled vinegar or spirit which originally came from a gluten source. Just because you don't understand, doesn't mean you can tell me that my sentences contradict each other. Do you have a PhD in biochemistry or friends that do and access to a lab?  If not, saying you don't understand is one thing anything else can be dangerous to others.
