Brain Fog

I have heard people mention brain fog, but I never thought I had a problem with that. But a week and a half ago, I had some guacamole which must have been cross-contaminated, because I had a full blown stomach reaction. :(

And that night, I was playing Life with my little ones, and at the end when we needed to count the cards and money to see who won, I couldn't keep my numbers straight! I recounted several times and finally gave up.

Is that what people mean when they talk about brain fog? I never noticed that happening before, but maybe it was and I just didn't notice the difference because it was common?

I can feel a kind of mental lethergy, slow thought, inability to really concentrate, lack of desire to do much of anything. I get real inefficient in everything I'm doing and I don't accomplish much. No energy.

I later realized all the connections with feeling like this and eating gluten, and that this is what people must be referring to when they mention "brain fog." This is what it's like for me, in any case. ;)

Yep that's it. It's funny you mention numbers, a year or so after I was diagnosed I noticed I could add a list of numbers in my head for the first time in my life. I used to forget the total of the first 2 when I was trying to add the 3rd to it. I couldn't even add a group of more than 3 numbers on paper without adding them 2 at a time. Boy I wish they had know about this as when I was in grade school, I got labeled as lazy and couldn't even multiply till 8th grade. It's amazing sometimes how much an impact it can have.

Thanks for posting this. I hadn't come across the Alchemist before. Great site!

Psyllium can't sit for more than a minute in the water or it is like drinking sludge. Swallowed fairly soon means it's more like an flavorless undermixed protein smoothie. Chlorophyll ( or two tbsp) really helps the taste, makes it minty. Taking Psyllium and Chlorophyll separately rather than together at first helps determine if there's intolerance to either. Also starting the Psyllium in small doses, starting with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon to tolerate the fiber change.

BuddhaBar, I came across this thread while searching online for celiac insomnia (having also scared myself stupid by finding out about fatal insomnia) and it did bring me some piece of mind as it so closely matches my own experience. I know this thread is old now, I hope you're doing well, and thanks for posting your experience.

That's great news, @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour.  And you might find that if you do have asthma, keeping your reflux under control may help, if my experience is anything to go by.
