Anyone Help Their Psoriasis With Gluten Free Diet

Rate this topic

I have just started a gluten free diet due to GI issues, but I also have psoriasis. I was just curious if anyone else has psoriasis and had it improve on a gluten free diet. Thanks for your input :)

really mushroom???? interesting.

okay- my experience: 10 years ago- when i went 98% wheat free (atkins diet/didnt know anything about gluten)-> my psoraisis, excema, dandruff, and another itchy condition i will not explain completely went away- completely.

kept cheating- dandruff came back, and a strange skin issue on my armpits, and later my eyelids- very strange.

last july went 100% gluten-free.everything went away, but 1st DH came for about 4 months.

THENNNNN come winter- i get the excema on my knuckles ???? why i thought- im off gluten.. but this girl i follow on twitter ( @allergicgirl )- she said that can be from dairy.

sorry- long :/

Most of my problems are skin (but no DH, thank goodness!) Melanomas, skin cancers, psoriasis (actually psoriatic arthritis - the psoriasis only manifested after dx of sero-negative RA). So by the time that arrived I had been through all the RA meds and did not tolerate/became intolerant of them all, some really bad side effects and then especially the Plaquenil which flared up my psoriasis horribly - It just flat out itched for three years, had terrible itching callouses on my palms and heels, psoriasis in places you don't want to know about  ) although it handled my arthritis for a couple of years until it just stopped working; so finally I got prescribed Humira by my US rheumy. Wonderful stuff. Been on it three years. Arthritis gone (fingers and toes still sausage-like but joints okay), psoriasis gone, then they messed up my Rx on my last visit, and I ended up down here two months short. Since I started Humira and gluten free at about the same time I thought, "Good time to do a medication-free challenge" Gaaahhhh. Psorirasis came roaring back and I still haven't sent it packing 4-5 months later although it is on the run a bit. Started getting electric shock type pain in fingers and toes - end of challenge!!! But in all of this my scalp is still not right. I got all the psoriasis out of there but seborrheic dermatitis still there in full force. I can't bear the thought that it could be dairy because then I would have zero fun eating :(

I have some strange itchy skin conditions - itchy skin patches sometimes turn white-ish and look like eczema, and I get a chicken-skin like rash. I only get these when accidently glutened (Even trace amounts). IT's much better when I'm on the straight and narrow with safe, whole foods :)

Holding thumbs it helps for your psoriasis

I have had psoriasis on my scalp for along time and I've been gluten-free for about six months now. I haven't seen a change at all. I do know others in our same boat who changed their beauty products and saw major improvement. Anything and everything they put on their face, head, or skin is double checked for ingredients as some products do contain gluten. Just a thought

My psoriasis responds to corn, not gluten.

I also have psoriasis and psoratic arthritis. My arthritis is gone since going gluten-free, I am off all medications. But I still have occational bouts of the psoriasis on my scalp, it has never been terrible, but it hasn't really changed with the gluten-free diet. Everyone, however, responds differently. I have had corn allergies in the past. I seem to tolerate it okay at this point. It is possible that it would improve with eliminating corn, but I don't have much motivation to elimiate that, too!

My psoriasis cleared when I went off corn and nuts.
