The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) has joined forces with Drexel University’s Department of Hospitality Studies and School of Public Health to provide an evening of delicious gluten-free food and a fabulous cooking competition.

Event: Gluten-Free Cooking Spree: Celiac Awareness is on the Menu

Philadelphia Area doctors will partner with Drexel University Culinary Arts students to compete in developing gluten-free recipes and preparing the delicious results. Two celebrity food experts will judge the competition:

• Chef Georges Perrier of Le Bec-Fin, George’s and Brasserie Perrier

• Christina Pirello, host of public television’s Christina Cooks and author of Cooking the Whole Foods Way and Christina Cooks : Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Whole Foods But Were Afraid to Ask

Guests will go behind the scenes and watch the teams as they prepare their entries in Drexel’s Test Kitchens.

This event is hosted by the Drexel University Department of Hospitality Studies led by Chef Francis McFadden, Assistant Dean of the Goodwin School of Professional Studies. The Drexel School of Public Health under the leadership of Dean Marl Gold, M.D. is supporting the cook-off. The co-chairs are Debra Brady and Marla Gold.

Our goal is to raise awareness for celiac disease and demonstrate how delicious gluten-free food can be. The Culinary Arts students will serve our guests wine, along with gluten-free hors d’ouerves and dessert. And, there will be a gluten-free beer tasting!
